Godalming Town Council invites you to Staycation 2016 70 GREAT REASONS TO STAY IN GODALMING AND FARNCOMBE!! A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR Godalming Town Council is delighted to bring you its 7th Staycation with an even bigger and better range of exciting and fun activities for individuals to try. We are delighted to welcome back regular favourites such as tennis, swimming and canoeing, but this year we are excited to bring you the chance to have a go at willow weaving some dragonflies and to visit the willow sculptures in the park. The willow sculptures you will see around the Phillips Memorial Park have been created by local artist Sara Holmes. You can also see some of her public works of art in Woking town centre’s Wolsey Place. Sara led the Inspire Mark award-winning willow cyclists project during the 2012 Olympics. Children’s cookery classes are back; baby ballet, tap classes, musical theatre (Matilda), Panto in a Day and, new for this year, an exciting chance to “Come and Sing Pirates of Penzance” (no singing experience needed). Learn to make a granny square crochet workshop, girl’s cricket, free swimming, contemporary painting and drawing workshops, football, bowling and Just Zhoom (Bollywood Style) dance. There is also a chance to see a professional skateboard demonstration and take part in scooter competitions. These are just a few of the examples on offer this year. Most of these exciting activities are at a specially discounted Staycation price or completely free, plus they are all really close to home so you don’t have to worry about expensive travelling costs. With a wealth of National Trust properties, the River Wey, the Town’s sports facilities and historic and cultural places of interest and walks in our delightful countryside, plus our unique and individual shops, Godalming really is a fine place to spend your holiday time. Enjoy browsing through the Staycation activities programme and please don’t forget to mention Staycation when you try an activity or book for an event. I’d like to thank the many organisations and individuals who have contributed so generously in helping to create this year’s Staycation programme. Without their time and resources and subsidising events, it would not have been possible to have included activities for all age ranges. The Staycation week starts on Saturday, 6th August with the TST Staycation Live Music Festival at the Bandstand and finishes on Saturday, 13th August with the third Staycation Farncombe Family Fête at Canon Bowring’s Field, with pony rides, stalls offering goods, music entertainment, children’s rides, side shows, a tea tent, hog roast and more. Enjoy a holiday at home and make Godalming the place to be this summer. I very much look forward to seeing you throughout the Staycation week. Councillor David Hunter Mayor of Godalming July 2015
