AUGUST 2017

Baywest Celebrates Women’s Month Celebrate an exhilarating Women’s month this August with Baywest. The next 30 days are filled with a stellar line up of spectacular entertainment and premier competitions. Billabong has chosen to unveil its latest fashion range in Nelson Mandela Bay. “Our Baywest store was chosen to unveil our new 2017 Spring/Summer collection.” said Billabong SA Director, Jason Currie. “Billabong has a long history with the Eastern Cape, and we felt it was only natural to launch our new range in the Province first. And of course, when you think of the Eastern Cape, you think of Baywest.” Zara’s much publicised and eagerly anticipated collaboration with premier ladies shoe designer Christian Louboutin, has finally reached South Africa’s shores. “We at Zara South Africa are pleased to announce that all our stores nation-

wide will be carrying the full range designed by Mr. Louboutin.” announced Keorapetse Molusi, procurement head of Zara South Africa. She was excited to announce a very special promotion for all fans of Zara in South Africa. ”A special limited run of the exact pair of high heels designed by Mr. Louboutin and worn by Kim Kardashian at her wedding, was commissioned by Zara for international distribution. Only 50 pairs are in existence and we in South Africa were lucky enough to have received a single pair, which we have decided to will give away to one lucky Zara shopper.” Zara shoppers with purchases over R500 are eligible. See in-store for details. Treat your tastebuds with Fushin’s fantastic ladies only sushi platter. “We wanted to spoil all the ladies that visit us during Women’s

month,” explained Fushin owner and head chef Matt Huizhamen, ”so we came up with an exquisite selection of specialist sushi which will only be available to ladies during the month of August.” Named the ‘La Femme’, Fushin has created a masterpiece which combines classic elements such as Japanese Amberjack and Daikon radish, with beluga caviar and chia seeds. “Everything about the ‘La Femme’ is meant to celebrate the harmonising spirit that women bring to those around them. As such we have paired this signature dish with the renowned prestige cuvee champagne, the La Grande Dame from Veuve Clicquot.” Whether you’re a foodie or style junkie, be sure to celebrate the wonder that is women this August at Baywest. takes guts to stand your ground and go beyond the call to strengthen constitutional democracy and promote good governance. A lot of the general public forget how tainted the Public Protectors office was after the Oilgate scandal, and it couldn’t have been an easy task to bring that office back onto the straight and narrow.” “Most people don’t know that she was a part of the team that drafted the new South African constitution in 1996. She gave up a scholarship at Harvard to do this. She helped to draw up many statutes enacted since 1994 and was the co-architect of the policy framework that formed the basis of the Ministry for Women, Children and People with Disabilities.” When you get the creative equivalent of writer’s block, how do you get unstuck?

The Nuts and Bolts of Creativity This women’s month we sat down with the creative director for the Rebosis group, Akhona Malabie, who shared with us her thoughts on the nature of femininity and creativity. What do you do to ensure that your creative batteries stay charged? “I have a passion for Tai Chi, and often practice for an hour a day before work.” explains Akhona. “This really centres me and helps to keep my headspace clear. I also insist on taking

lunch. Many professionals see lunchtime as a necessary evil and end up eating at their desks but go into what I call ‘graveyard mode’ after 2pm. I prefer to take that hour to help keep me sharp for the afternoon’s challenging workload.” Which South African woman do you define as a visionary? “This is going to sound like a cliché, but I feel that Thuli Madonsela is a true visionary. It

“In all honesty,” she laughed, “I find an instrumental beat on Youtube and start freestyle rapping. This is, of course, done at home most often in front of my dog, Rafferty. It’s a low-stakes way for me to jump over the hurdle of self-consciousness and to push start the right hand side of my brain. I stay away from Pinterest because I find myself drawn to other people’s ideas, with the result that it stifles my own sense of creatively.” Any advice for your previous boss? “My mentor was a true renaissance woman, so this will be difficult. I really had to give it a stab, I’d say to not be any less demanding on the newbies than she was on me. It takes pressure to make diamonds, and I needed to be thrown into the deep end.”

Melissa’s joins the Baywest family Built on the principles of quality, good living and an appreciation for delicious, wholesome food, founder Melissa van Hoogstraten is delighted to have brought her brand to the Eastern Cape. “We have opened two stores in the province, at Baywest Mall and then at its sister mall BT Ngebs City in Mthatha.” said Melissa. “We first established the brand 20 years ago in Cape Town’s Kloof Street, using only best ingredients and have since grown to 14 hand-picked stores countrywide. Baywest Mall has really done a fantastic job bringing together the best global and local brands under one roof. We saw it as the perfect location to launch our first PE store, enabling us to introduce the Melissa’s food and retail concept to the people of the Eastern Cape within a world-class, premium retail environment.” she said. “There are some exciting new developments taking place in the Bay. We’ve wanted to launch the Melissa’s brand in PE for quite some time and Baywest Mall presented the ideal opportunity to do so. We just couldn’t wait to bring our unique experience and quality products to the lovely people of PE.”

Baywest Mall marketing manager Christopher Hutchings said the signing was a major retail coup for the shopping centre, which has also brought top brands like DionWired, Cinnabon and Ster-Kinekor IMAX and Cine Prestige to the region.

This is evident in the big brands making up our Fashion Boulevard, and now we’re adding to our premium dining experience with Melissa’s.”
