Mr. Shamik Roy, Product Specialist – Pre Sales, Cloud Client Computing, Dell India “A few years back we were dependent on our landline phone for all our verbal communications. Today our direct phone devices are not the landline but the smartphones. Many of us would feel uncomfortable if we do not have our smartphones with us. So what is the outcome of all these technologies at your disposal? There are many ways technologies affecting us which you would not realize directly until and unless someone enlightens us on that. And the biggest impact is data. If you see, the data size is increasing in manifolds. A few years back, this would have been just email and postal communication. But today the communication happens through 5 or 6 different mediums.”
Mr. Satinder Singh, Head, Systems Engineering (Government & Commercial) NetApp India “NetApp sees the cloud ecosystem to be having 3 major players – Public cloud players; local cloud service providers who have a specific reach and have a relationship with the customers and the third one is the private cloud market. When the journey of the Cloud started in 2010-11, there have been very dramatic comments been shared by both the private and the public cloud players. In the following years, we found many customers moving to the public cloud, while most of the major start-ups are seen embracing the private cloud. So there happens to a mix of both the clouds.”
Mr. N C Mohapatra, Director Alliances – CSDC Systems “CSDC stands for Canadian Software Development Corporation, established in the year 1989. Since 27 years we have been in the business of GSP (Government Services Platform). We cater to only the Government business and are not into any corporate or private business. We have an application by the name of AMANDA. AMANDA is simply the most empowering Case Management & Process Automation platform for Governments and Regulatory Agencies. ‘Security Frameworks for Smart city in India’ Panel Discussion
(From Left to Right): Mr. Uday Bhaskar Rao, MD & CEO - IRam Technologies; Mr. K L lalani, Chairman- Lalani Infotech; Mr. HPS Bawa, CEO-WEBEL Technology Ltd.; Shri Manjit Nayak, Addl. Director- Officer-in-charge, STPI (Kolkata) and Mr. Satinder Singh, Head, Systems Engineering (Government & Commercial) - NetApp India The panel discussion on ‘Security Frameworks for Smart city in India’ was moderated by Mr Deepak Kumar Sahu, Chief Editor – VARINDIA. The theme selected for the discussion was apt, in view of the current IT landscape in the country. The discussion threw light on the fact that with new technologies emerging almost every day, business is becoming complex and the growth of ICT industry in India is highly becoming dependent upon SMEs, because of their rapid growth and proliferation. SMEs play a key role in ensuring that the growth in the sector remains on track. Digitization in SME sector in India is growing fast and is soon becoming the engine of the economic development that creates jobs and curbs economic poverty by empowering the bottom of the pyramid. Panellists joining in the conversation also marked the fact that the growing internet base has a direct correlation to growth of e-commerce in the country. While emphasizing on security, the deliberation pointed out that with emerging mobile and cloud platforms, organizations today need to be increasingly secure as the environment in which they operate is growing more and more complex and dynamic with attackers using innovative techniques. Going forward, the huge increase in data that smart cities’ connected infrastructure will produce raises privacy issues that may be beyond the scope of existing laws. The current IT Act might not give adequate protection to the citizen data that smart cities will generate and there is a need to put in place an appropriate legal framework to address such activities in the smart city eco-system. Smart cities not only offer the potential for cost saving efficiencies, but also attractive targets for cybercrime. The Security response to this challenge must be equally innovative - a way that helps an organization become nimble footed to respond quickly to real threats in its environment. A Security programme needs to be dynamic and vibrant such that it enables quick response to threats, vulnerabilities and actual cyber attacks. The panel also aimed to know on how to empower SMBs and everyone present during the discussion commended that SMBs have to leverage the power of digitization in order to grow their business.
