Var magazine aspires to be a treasure trove of vital information about relevant products that consumers in the region are eagerly seeking. And here we are, attempting to establish a high-value magazine. For our clients, this is an opportunity to put themselves and their brands in front of consumers and vendors.

And, as we understand it, every product released by the company should address the question of how much of a difference this makes to a consumer looking for real-world solutions. And the feedback we frequently receive from readers and vendors forces us to decide what we should and should not include in this

genre of our magazine. However, we would like to let our readers know that we are often brave with the content and products we feature in VAR magazine.

The look and feel of this VAR magazine are designed in that old retro format, with long pages full of attractive and colorful prints. It’s also a nod to our past, as this was our first publication. The Var magazine is our flagship brand, and it serves as a reminder of our journey thus far. The world has changed dramatically in the last decade. The way products are introduced to the market has changed significantly. We are now considering on how to make the next issue of VAR magazine even more enjoyable. So please send us your valuable ideas and comments on the same.

I hope you enjoy turning the pages of this issue of VAR magazine as much as we did.

DELL STRENGTHENS CYBER RESILIENCE

Dell Technologies is expanding its industry leadership in data protection appliances and software to help customers protect their data on premises, in public clouds and at the edge.

The Dell PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance leads a series of advancements for multicloud data protection that are simple to use and easy to consume. Dell innovation in AI-powered resilience and operational security accelerates the adoption of Zero Trust architectures, helping protect organizations from the increasing threat of cyberattacks.

The new solutions help address rising data protection challenges facing organizations.

According to the 2022 Dell Global Data Protection Index (GDPI) survey, organiza-

tions have experienced higher levels of natural and modern disasters than in previous years, resulting in more data loss, downtime and recovery costs. In 2022, cyberattacks accounted for 48% of all disasters (up from 37% in 2021), leading all other causes of data disruption. The survey also revealed 85% of organizations using multiple data protection vendors see a benefit in reducing their number of vendors. Furthermore, it revealed that organizations using a single data protection vendor incurred 34% less cost recovering from cyberattacks or other cyber incidents than those who used multiple vendors.

“With virtually everything connected to the internet in today’s digital world, the need to protect valuable data is more important than ever,” said Jeff Boudreau, president and general manager, Infra-

structure Solutions Group, Dell Technologies. “This digital landscape requires a modern data protection and security strategy to address cyber threats. Point solutions don’t go deep or wide enough to help protect organizations. Dell helps customers strengthen cyber resiliency by offering integrated data protection software, systems and services to help ensure data and applications are protected and resilient wherever they live.”

The GDPI survey found that 91% of organizations are either aware of or planning to deploy a Zero Trust architecture – a cybersecurity model that shifts how organizations approach security from relying solely on perimeter defenses to a proactive strategy that only allows known, authorized traffic across system boundaries and data pipelines.

HID & IPASSPORT TO BRING NEW IDENTITY VERIFICATION IN TRANSPORT SECTOR

a secure, seamless journey that’s long overdue.

“Today, moving through an airport securely requires an ongoing and seamless identity verification system that not only enhances the passenger experience, but also optimizes efficiencies for everyone. HID is excited to collaborate with iPassport to bring this new solution to market,” says Vito Fabbrizio, Managing Director of Biometrics, Extended Access Technologies at HID.

With HID’s modular approach, airlines and airport operators are now able to add identity verification capabilities quickly and easily to existing systems without having to “rip-and-replace” or perform expensive migrations to a new platform altogether.

This modular solution includes the following components:

• Facial Recognition Camera Hardware

ing (MSI) technology and ethically trained artificial intelligence (AI) built within the HID U.ARE.U Camera Identification System, significant performance and matching accuracy are achieved.

Use of facial recognition technology throughout the airport will depend on the passenger’s prior consent during booking or check-in. Additionally, the biometric information is only stored and used during the time the passenger is in transit within the airport to help address compliance with applicable with data privacy laws.

Beyond airlines and airports, other segments of the travel industry, such as cruise ships and hospitality, can also benefit from:

• Ethically trained and built AI to eliminate matching bias

• Industry-leading presentation attack detection (PAD) to thwart spoof attempts

HID, a worldwide leader in trusted identity and physical security solutions, and iPassport, a provider of solutions that enable organizations to implement digital identity technologies, recently signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on a new identity verification solution for the transportation industry.

INSIDE OPPO’S ALL-NEW RENO8 T 5G PHONE

As the first smartphone series to specialize in portrait photography, the OPPO Reno series has paved the way for a new generation of smart portrait capabilities with its revolutionary imaging technology and chip-level AI algorithms. Equipped with the latest hardware updates and the newest portrait imaging features — including the brand-new Ultra-Clear Imaging System — the recently launched OPPO Reno8 T series puts the most extraordinary portrait photography experiences right in the users hands.

On the new Reno8 T 5G, users can take advantage of an unprecedented 108MP Portrait Camera, an upgraded 40x Microlens, and a 32MP front camera to easily capture images with more style and artistic flair, or completely new views from the microscopic world.

CAPTURE EACH DAY IN EXQUISITE DETAIL

This time, on the newest addition to the Reno family, the Reno8 T 5G, OPPO has introduced a brand-new Ultra-Clear Imaging System that upgrades the entire camera performance to make sure the Reno series continues to live up to its name as the ‘Portrait Expert’.

To capture the highest-quality portraits possible, OPPO has brought a 108MP main camera to the Reno series for the first time. The 108MP camera is powered by a Samsung HM6 sensor packed with Nonapixel Plus technology that capture every moment in life with incredible high-definition detail. It’s the first sensor to adopt Nonapixel Plus technology, which generates 12-megapixel photos with 9-in-1 pixels while increasing the unit pixel area to 1.92μm, which is useful for low-light situations and brings a clear display effect. With the Nonapixel Plus technology, the main camera can take in 96% more light than the previous generation, resulting in a fundamentally better shooting experience in the dark.

With nearly double the number of pixels found on mainstream 64MP cameras, the leap in resolution brought by the 108MP main camera captures unprecedented details in images to provide more possibilities in creativity and more freedom when it comes to editing. Additionally, cropping of the large 108MP images allows wide

panoramas to be expanded to reveal crisp portrait-like images with amazing details.

40X MICROLENS TAKES USERS A STEP FURTHER INTO THE MICROSCOPIC WORLD

After seeing how Reno owners around the world were using the Microlenses to express their inner creativity, OPPO upgraded its Microlens magnification from 30x to 40x on the new Reno8 T 5G. This represents a huge evolution over the 30x magnification Microlens featured on the previous generation of Reno series phones, opening a gateway to new discoveries in the microscopic world.

In terms of physical design, as the short focal length of the Microlens requires the phone to be placed very close to the objects being photographed, OPPO engineers have positioned the camera flash only 8.5 mm away from the Microlens. Here, it acts as a fill light to illuminate objects when the Microlens is in use.

A ground-breaking security data lake has been launched at the Gulf Information Security Expo & Conference 2023, as part of the ongoing strategic alliance announced a few months ago between CPX and Huawei. The data lake is aimed at protecting valuable critical infrastructure in the UAE from cybersecurity challenges.

Powered by advanced analytics and machine learning from Huawei and CPX’s industry-specific expertise, the new offering enables customers to gain unparalleled visibility into their operations and rapidly respond to mission-critical cyber incidents.

With the expanding threat landscape, protecting operational technology (OT) environments from cybersecurity challenges has become crucial for ensuring the safety and reliability of operations. Cyber incidents on OT systems can cause grave damage, resulting in production downtime, equipment damage and even physical harm to persons. IT leaders often have limited visibility over their organizational data, making security more difficult to control. To counter this, the security data lake service provides a reliable and scalable solution for

collecting, storing and analyzing data from OT environments.

Khaled Al Melhi, Chief Executive Officer of CPX, said: “As a leading home-grown provider of cybersecurity services and solutions, we are always striving to launch cutting-edge cybersecuritiy offerings in the region, to help secure the UAE’s critical infrastructure. Through our collaboration with Huawei, we’re now bringing the cloud security data lake to create a fully secure ecosystem of analytics and free data flow across any industry. This will also strength-

en our commitment to the UAE’s vision of becoming the leading digital economy.”

Aloysius Cheang, Chief Security Officer, Huawei Middle East & Central Asia, said: “We are thrilled to partner with CPX in order to provide a state-of-the-art service that will help protect the UAE’s valuable infrastructure. At Huawei, cybersecurity and privacy protection are our top priorities. We have been continuously committed to building trust, ensuring privacy protection, maintaining transparency and advocating open collaborations.”
