Our decisions about where we live can change throughout the different stages of our lives. We, oftentimes, have small starter homes and, as children come along, larger homes are purchased to accommodate our growing families. After children leave the nest, some choose to remain in the home, while others decide to downsize, once again. Whether we’re independent active Seniors, or, in need of assistance…we’re fortunate, today, to have many types of living options to choose from, to meet our changing wants and needs.
LIVING OPTIONS Aging In Place
Rehabilitation
Aging in Place is staying in the home you live in. And, if needs arise, those needs are met by hiring outside assistance. Assistance can include home making assistance, transportation, personal care and skilled medical care. Frequency and duration of assistance varies by situation and can range from weekly visits to live-in assistance. Hospice can be available to assist the terminally ill.
Short-term live-in centers that offer rehabilitation services to help recovery from an injury, illness or surgery.
Independent Living – Senior Communities
Skilled Nursing
This is the choice of many active Seniors that choose to downsize. Senior Living Communities are age-restricted, usually to those 50 or 55+, and consist of low-maintenance apartments, homes or villas, attached or detached, where residents can care for themselves, completely, without assistance.
Respite Care
Assisted Living An Assisted Living Residence is a fulltime residence for adults that do not need ongoing skilled nursing care but require ongoing assistance with everyday tasks, such as dressing, bathing and eating.
Full-time residences that offer private or semi-private rooms, medical care and rehabilitation, meals, activities and programs.

TIPS FOR SAFETY & COMFORT AT HOME Challenges can sometimes arise for seniors that live at home. But, fortunately, there are many products available that can help make living at home safer and more comfortable, as the need arises. Grab bars in showers & near toilets Non-slip mats for showers and bathtubs A bathtub/shower bench A handheld shower head Toilet seat risers A stepless shower or a walk-in tub Stair lifts for multi-story homes A wearable personal alert system Medication organizers Touch-tone phones with larger buttons & volume adjustment Adjustable Beds can be helpful for both comfort and for medical reasons. For those that experience swelling and build-up of fluid in the ankles, feet and legs, using an adjustable bed can raise the feet and legs above the heart, dispersing fluid and swelling, making walking less uncomfortable. Back pain can be helped by adjusting the bed to remove stress off of the vertebrae. And, for those with arthritis, the adjustable bed can allow you to raise the head and lower the foot of the bed, making it easier to get out of bed. Lift Chairs make it easier if you have difficulty getting in and out of your chair. They are also beneficial for caregivers that are assisting a loved one.

How can I tell if I have hearing loss? Because hearing loss usually happens gradually, it can sometimes be difficult to notice if we have it. If you answer ‘yes’ to some of the following questions, you may have hearing loss. • Do you often ask people to repeat what they say? • Do you have trouble hearing in groups? • Does it seem like others often mumble? • Do you fail to hear someone talking from behind you? • Do you turn up the volume on the TV or car radio to the point where others say it’s loud?
• Do you have difficulty on the phone? • Do you have trouble hearing your alarm clock? • Do you have difficulty hearing at the movies? • Do you dread going to noisy parties and restaurants?
