esigned by Jaipur-based Vipin Bakiwala Design Studio, Sapphire Fashion is spread over 3,100 sq ft in Jaipur. Owned by Ankit Chitlangiya, this design production house boasts of traditional hand block-printed apparels, accessories, home and table linen that are exported to countries across Europe and are much sought after by niche families in India. The space is spread over four floors with each having a designated function and purpose. Riwaayat on the third floor serves as a space for the clientele to examine the collection, engage with room mock-ups and even create their own designs. What makes www.cwinteriors.in
Riwaayat distinct is that the design of the space is a confluence of rich Rajasthani culture with the Mughal and Moroccan styles. This is a self-sufficient studio with the space offering both a luxurious shopping experience and a comfortable atmosphere for conducting business. “The client required a free-flowing space to showcase his collection including apparels, accessories, home and table linen and conduct discussions with buyers who travel from abroad to source from the studio. He wanted the interiors to complement and enhance the beauty of his hand blockprinted products and give a memorable experience for the buyers. The entrance to the studio is adorned with traditional sunset pink – a nod to its Jaipur roots – and swarna patra (gold leafing work) in six Mughal-influenced arches on the wall. Mogholsarai wallpapers from Sabyasachi and iron lights designed in-house dot the space with intricate jali work that mirrors old Rajasthani havelis. A wide display unit with an assortment of hand blocks and printed fabric on either side of a a custom-made frame celebrate block printing in an effortless style. The ceiling of 16 domes – the designer’s interpretation of chhatri (domes) – gleams with a custom-made fabric light fixture in each of the domes. On the left of the lobby is a segment to display apparels, which is the biggest stretching across the full width of the space. Display units with apparels stand close to the longer walls with changing rooms and storage at the far end. The space has mock-ups of living room, bedroom, kid’s room, dining and more for customers to interact with.
Mock-ups of master and kids’ bedrooms hold space between the entrance foyer and the landscaped area. There are two beds that subsume the season’s furnishing collection for the master as well as kids’ bedrooms. The wall behind the bedroom mock-up is an interpretation of the decorative walls and facades of the royal palaces of Jaipur. The Mughal-inspired landscaped area or bagheecha (garden) has a fountain and 12 antique columns sourced from Jodhpur of varying styles stretching across the space. Blue and aqua colour palettes juxtaposed with subtle serenity capture the essence of European architecture. The fountain spouts are carved out of Jaisalmer yellow stone and blue lapis stone. Birds made of fibre and clay add life to this space. The lounge mock-up facing the fountain has a sofa designed in-house, and coffee tables and a rectangular table with intricate bone inlay work sourced from Jodhpur. custom-made dining chairs hand-woven by skilled local artisans. The area is used to display their collection of tableware. Traditional arayash (fresco painting) is done by master craftsmen on one of the walls, while the other with the Bagh-E-Fiza wallpaper from Good Earth has a display of photographs of the client’s factory as a token of gratitude to the workers and their skill. The shamiana ceiling provides sublime luxury that revels in the romance of the past. Arayash work, painted metal plates, Moroccan art patterns, framed royal paintings and other elements diligently use traditional designs in vibrant hues.
