CHAIRMAN’S REPORT Welcome to the new look November Hub. I want to thank Rosalie Brown for offering to take over production of this magazine at short notice and also taking on the webmaster functions. I am impressed with some of the changes made and am happy to receive any comments you may have about our branch magazine. We have chalked up another successful swap meet and I want to thank Colin and his team for their input as well as all those who volunteered to help before, during and after the event. Thanks also to the motorcycle section members who spent Labour weekend at Cutler Park doing maintenance and odd jobs around the grounds. Ross Butler ran a successful Grasskhana event on the Sunday and a good number of members enjoyed participating or just watching. We used to hold these many years ago, and I think there is enough enthusiasm to make this a permanent fixture again. Give your thoughts to Ross. We attended the National Veteran Rally at Timaru along with a number of Canterbury members, and all agreed that this was an exceptionally well run event with wonderful hospitality provided by the South Canterbury branch. Some stayed on for the Mount Cook rally the following weekend.

Homestead Run to the Peninsula will be held on Sunday 24 November.

The Children’s Christmas picnic will be held on Saturday 7 December as part of the Kaiapoi Christmas Festival celebrations. Please remember to register with Amanda Franklin by 25 November to ensure your child is provided with a present. Remember, this is an opportunity for our members to display our club vehicles, so please bring your chosen vehicle for display. Entry instructions to display area will be given in the December Hub. Letter from Member I have had a letter forwarded to me from National office written by one of our members with regard to rebranding of the Club. Please don’t send your ideas to National Office, wait till we have something constructive to work on then you can forward your ideas to me. For more information on my Bullet Point in September’s Hub please read General Business Page 4 paragraph Branding: in the Minutes of the Annual General Meeting of the VCC 17 August 2019. This was sent to members with the October Beaded Wheels. If you want me to send you a copy of the powerpoint presentation please send me a request by email.

Membership Matters Over the last two months I have been slowly working though our membership list trying to compile a complete list of our members’ PAGE 8

email addresses and update all the ones that became invalid ROD THROWER when Vodafone Secretary closed down some of their servers. If you have email and it is not recorded at National Office then I probably don’t have it. Email is a very useful way of contacting you if for any reason we need to change a rally’s details, venue, date, start point or what ever. This will not mean you are signing up to receive your Hub by email unless you request it. The email list purely to help with day to day administration matters, please contact me at canterbury@vcc.org.nz to be added to this list and make it clear if you wish to trial receiving the Hub this way.

Online Entries for Branch Rallies This is now up and running. Online entry forms can be found on the events page of our club website. Simply click on the blue “enter online” button - a new window with the entry form will open up. Complete the form online and submit. Payment can be made by cheque or internet banking. BAR REPORT The bar continues to be regularly patronised on Noggin night and at evening functions, please remember that the main hall and beer garden are licenced premises and therefore BYO drinks are not permitted in these areas at any time. The bar was well utilised for both the Friday and Saturday evenings of swap meet, thank you to al the volunteers that made these

SWAP MEET REPORT Well, at last it’s happened again for the year, and we can tick that box off. Like we do every year, it’s time to look back and see what went well and what didn’t and then start thinking about Swap Meet 2020. First-up, the one thing we cannot influence – the weather. Just a few bits of very light drizzle on the Saturday morning was all the wet we got. This was enough to lay the dust from Friday, and then the rest of time it was pretty jolly good and trading continued unabated. It certainly made things a lot better this year. Our new restrictions on site set-up being Thursday only and not allowing trading until Friday morning worked extremely well. We were able to get the grounds set up on Wednesday without the distraction of people trying to find their sites and get them set up. Thursday was very busy with many site-holders arriving, but we were ready for them and could control people coming and going while setting up the display areas, traffic management, and organising headquarters to be ready for the first day of trading. Two site-holders, one from the North Island and one from Christchurch (neither of whom were VCC members) were noticed to be selling on Thursday, and did not have their sites renewed for 2020. Both protested (as expected) but accepted they had been warned. In terms of numbers through the gates, the outcome was similar to previous years, but more evenly spread over Friday and Saturday rather than having a huge influx on whichever of those two days it was not raining as in previous years. Sunday was PAGE 10

very, very quiet, and by 2.00pm it was all over. I think we will have to change our COLIN HEY advertising in future Swap Meet years to reflect this, Convenor as any member of the public arriving after mid-day had very little to look at. By then many site-holders had packed up. All of our sellers seemed happy though, with many reporting really good sales, particularly on Friday. This was reflected by the amount of cash that came in from the gates, and then went out through the EFTPOS machine. The Parts Shed team once again had a good weekend, although with the weather being better this year didn’t quite match the record turnover of last year. We unfortunately still seem to get VCC members (from our branch and other branches) turning up at the gate flashing their VCC cards expecting to get in for free, and then wanting to have an argument about it. This not only delayed the flow of people and cars through the gate, it frustrated those who freely gave up their time to man the gates and then had to deal with them. People bringing dogs was a similar story, although it was better this year. One young woman unfortunately had a small dog escape from her car when one of the occupants opened the door, and as far as we know it still hasn’t been found. It was last seen in one of the golf courses running flat-out towards the river. The machinery and car displays were once again really good this year, especially on

Saturday. Thank you everyone who bought their club-eligible vehicle or machinery item out to put on display either in the oval, or in the one-make area. The winner of the Coombes trophy for the best VCC car on display went to Craig Keenan from Banks Peninsula Branch with his beautiful 1936 Talbot. The Saturday night function this year was a really good one – a great band, and lots of people who were happy to stay up late and enjoy the entertainment and the supper. As I’m sure everyone is aware, this event doesn’t happen without a huge team of people prepared to put in some time and take on one of the hundreds of jobs that need doing before, during, and after the weekend. I want to thank you all for your time and effort – when it’s all over and done

SWAP MEET WORKFORCE 2019 As I wind up my duties as Workforce Convener I would like to thank all those members who gave up their time to assist during the set-up of the grounds at Cutler Park in the week prior to the 2019 Swapmeet. Several members camped over on Sunday night ready to help others who came out to work on Monday collecting signs, cones and other equipment and pack away in the new storage area. Also those who helped get as much cardboard and metal as we could out of the rubbish bins (this is an ongoing issue yet to be solved ) and collecting other rubbish left behind. The grounds were back to normal by 1.30pm Monday. Thanks again to the all these helpers. Thanks also to Marietta Jeeves, June McIntyre and Shona Clarkson for the morning teas and lunches on Wednesday and Monday, it was much appreciated. Ian McKinlay PAGE 12

with I feel very privileged to be able to know and work with you all to make it happen again and keep our branch and facilities functioning for another year. Although I’m reluctant to single out anyone in particular, I’d like to make a special mention of Andrea Dellow who looked after HQ all day Sunday after Katryna Shaw took ill, only to go home and promptly fall down the steps, fracturing her wrist and ankle. We all wish you a speedy recovery Andrea! Also a special thanks to Spraymarks, who once again assisted us with traffic management and loaned us a TM truck and equipment for the weekend, and to Canterbury Honda in Woodend who loaned us 3 ATVs for the weekend. Only 11 Noggins until Swap Meet 2020!

Ahh, the joys of spring motorcycling! Already we have had some cracker days for the runs of the past month! PAST EVENTS

28th September – Fish & Chip Run. Ten riders took a run out to just north of Waipara to attend a moto-cross event. Very well organised, two circuits catering from 4 – 5 year olds up to adults. An enjoyable day out.

9th October – Motorcycle Noggin, at The Casting Shop, 5A Watts Road. About 35 – 40 people turned up to be shown all aspects of the metal casting process – from setting the sand in mould boxes, the investment casting process, and the lost wax process. A very informative evening, thanks to the organisers and to the staff of The Casting Shop.

11 – 13 October – VCC Swap Meet. A number of the motorcycle committee volunteered to run the swap meet toilet cleaning roster. An easy way to save $600 that would have ordinarily been paid to an outside contractor….

19 – 20th October – Annual Girder Fork Rally to Akaroa. 30 riders enjoyed a run in beautiful weather all weekend. See elsewhere for a full write-up and results.

26th October – Fish & Chip Run. Ten riders met at PMH and undertook a run out to Darfield via the Summit Road, Teddington, Dyers Pass, Motukarara, Greenpark and Burnham. After a lunch we visited a farm where a Christchurch Model Aircraft Club was conducting its Labour Weekend competitions. Some VERY serious model aircraft, from very small (like, when we were kids’ stuff) right up to twin jet powered models two to three metres long and wide. One craft we were told was worth $45,000… Serious money in anyone’s language! Thanks Kurt Ebrecht for organising.

26th – 28th October – Labour Weekend Working Bee. Nine caravans of motorcyclists set up camp at the Social Corner and spent the weekend on a Working Bee. Trees got planted, gardens got mulched and dug. Curtains in the hall got taken down, repaired, and put back up. All sorts of little jobs just got done. Thanks heaps, guys!

FUTURE EVENTS

2nd November – Annual Motorcycle Rally. Might be in the past by the time you read this. All details and entry forms were in last month’s Hub.

20th November – Motorcycle Noggin. NOTE THE CHANGE OF DATE (again!) The November Noggin will be on the THIRD Wednesday, the 20th. We have arranged a visit to CWF Hamilton Ltd, Lunds Road. CWF Hamilton will be completing a couple of their larger jet units, which, when undergoing testing, can empty an Olympic size swimming pool in about 20 seconds!

Also, safety glasses and hearing protection will be required. If you own safety glasses and ear muffs or ear plugs, bring them. There are a limited number available on site, but since we do not know how many are coming, and as stocks are limited, if you have them, please bring them. As you can see, this business takes safety seriously, so we need to conform to their standards.

24th November – Homestead Run. Organised by the Motorcycle Committee, this run will be moving into pastures new, as it were. Entries on line, GET YOUR ENTRIES IN – or you’ll miss out on a great day out. If on-line entries are a bit challenging then a phone call to organiser Phil Jeeves 022 025 9924 will secure a spot.

30th November – Fish & Chip Run. This will be the last F&C run for the year, and we have a good one for you. An interesting destination in Leeston has been planned, to see auto-memorabilia and “stuff”. Come on the run to find out all about it! Meet PMH, 10.15 am for a 10.30 am departure. As this is a 24 hour/day operation there will be requirements which we MUST follow, and here they are: Assemble inside Gate 4, by reception, at 7.15 for a 7.30 start. This will be a supervised tour and will start on time. If you snooze you loose, SO DON’T BE LATE. Because this is a fully operational production facility that runs 24 hours a day, we will need to follow Health and Safety procedures. If you want to deviate from the designated walkway (which is highly likely) you will need to be in long trousers, and wearing either safety boots or stout shoes.

11th December – Motorcycle Christmas Noggin. Held in the Barn, $15 a head, being catered by the Club Caterers. Must know numbers, so please advise Phil Jeeves at philipjeeves21@gmail.com or cellphone 022 025 9924. Partners very welcome, pay on the night.

CHRISTCHURCH – AKAROA Annual Girder Fork Rally

19-20 OCTOBER 2019

OCTOBER SAW THE RUNNING OF THE VCC MOTORCYCLE SECTION’S ANNUAL GIRDER FORK RALLY TO AKAROA. THIS EVENT IS SPECIFICALLY FOR PRE WAR BIKES AND ANY OTHERS FITTED WITH GIRDER FORK FRONT SUSPENSION. Saturday 19 October dawned fine and sunny with the promise of a great day’s riding. The assembled masses milled around the Amyes Road Super Liquor car park waiting for the organiser to arrive – probably because the usual 9.15 am riders briefing had been replaced with a 10.15 am briefing… Pays to read the run info, eh?

across the city to Heathcote Valley, through the tunnel to Lyttleton, round the bays to Teddington, Gebbies Pass, then out to the main road to Akaroa. The short route took riders to Prebbleton, Ladbrooks, Greenpark, before hitting the main road to Akaroa at Motukarara. The after lunch run was to the Hilltop and via the Summit Road to Akaroa (long) or direct to Akaroa via Duvauchelle, where the masses congregated at the Grand Hotel to enjoy the PM sunshine. Some of the more resilient did stay up to watch the 11.15 pm rugby NZ v’s Ireland, but sensibly most did not.

Eventually the approx 30 riders got under way, but not before the drama of Tim Elley’s lack of maintenance issues forced his withdrawal. It seems the large nut holding the front pipe onto the engine exhaust flange of his 1929 Triumph plus the two bolts that mount the silencer to the rear frame all parted company at the same time, depositing said exhaust assembly onto the road. Despite the best intentions of dismounting, putting out the stand and running back to collect it off the road … too late, some seven axle monster truck and trailer unit had already run over the exhaust, completely flattening it into a pancake of mashed metal. Instant Dick-Of-The-Run award material!

The Sunday (again in brilliant fine, sunny conditions) run complete with reliability and timed runs was back to the Tai Tapu Hotel for lunch and the awarding of the trophies.

Two routes took the riders from Hornby to the Little River Hotel where a lunch of hoki, chips and salad or cottage pie and salad was served. After the success of last year’s meal on the same run the organiser thought a repeat would be in order, and that faith was not misplaced. The long route was

9-90’s REPORT Where would I be without Graeme Sword? Graeme set out a nice ride around Kaiapoi, Silversteam, Brooklands, and the Preston subdivisions and we finished up at the Ngaio Marsh Retirement Village for lunch. The deal was that we would come with 80-90 potential customers and George and Mary Ann Kear, who live there, would organise a lunch and they did. Fantastic! A good time was had by all and quite a few people went around for a guided tour. The Ngaio Marsh Village donated a lovely basket as a prize for one of our members. A big thank you to Marie and her team at Ngaio Marsh for their wonderful hospitality and also to Graeme, George and Mary Ann.

Many thanks to the Craythornes for making the arrangements to visit John and Justine Ackroyd’s in Rolleston for the October Commercial noggin, unfortunately I wasn’t able to make it but I have had it reported back that the collection of vehicles and Boeing 737 in the process of being converted into a B&B were definitely interesting to have a look around.

Please pencil in 11 December for the usual Christmas BBQ, one week earlier on the 2nd Wednesday to avoid the other activities at that time of year, details in the December Hub. If all goes to plan information and entry form for the Annual Commercial rally early next year will also be in the December Hub.

I’m still working on a plan for November, it will be on the 3rd Wednesday of the month as usual, 20th November. I’ll get something out to as many as I can before then, If you haven’t heard from me let me know.

National Veteran Rally 2019 TIMARU

WITH THE 2019 NATIONAL VETERAN RALLY ONLY JUST DOWN THE ROAD, WE NEEDED TO MAKE AN EFFORT AND GET TO THIS YEAR’S ONE IN TIMARU. Two Wolseleys outside Claremont Castle

Our plan was to take our 1909 Wolseley Siddeley. We could then leave it trailered in Timaru so we could pick it up two weeks later on our way to the Pioneer Motoring Group run in Clyde in November. The car was checked over and a new WoF obtained, and then on Friday 25th we loaded the car in the trailer and headed away. Although the weather report looked very promising, it was teeming down with rain all the way there, and with no hood on the car, we were starting to wonder what we were going to get. Indeed, it got heavier as the evening and night progressed. We checked into the Ocean Ridge motel and were pleased to find they had plenty of room for trailers. There were already three other trailers there, and as we arrived Ray and Jan McCulloch (Chairman of Southland Branch) arrived with their Abingdon King Dick motorcycle. They were offered room in the laundry to keep it out of the weather. Great service! Soon Bevars Binnie arrived in his Hupmobile, having driven it from Christchurch. The windscreen joins were taped up with 100mph tape (I think to keep the rain out, not because of the speed?) - a good effort in that weather. At 5.30pm we proceeded to the South PAGE 22

Canterbury Branch clubrooms to check in. The place was busy with people, and the kitchen was pumping out fingerfood to keep everyone fed and happy. A great atmosphere with lots of talking and catching-up going on. Others from our branch were already there, and the rest soon rolled in. With 52 cars and bikes registered, the room soon filled. The weather was on everyone’s mind, but chief organiser Alistair Day assured us that all would be well tomorrow. I think he was worried though. Next morning we were up early to get the car out and going. The rain had stopped during the night and it was already warm with just a bit of cloud around. Certainly looked promising. Bevars was trying to get the Hup going, but had no spark from the mag. We had to leave him to it and head off to the clubrooms, and as we left he was doing a short walk to the nearest garage for a can of CRC. It worked too! Briefing was at the clubrooms and then we set off on the first run heading south to Beconsfield Road. We drove up through Fairview and inland for about 15km, climbing gradually all the way through beautiful rolling country, up to Mount Horrible Road and then to Claremont Castle. The ‘castle’ is a huge homestead with an adjoining chapel, built


in 1884, recently restored to its former glory by Rob Young. We were marshalled behind it, and then came through one at a time to have our photo taken in front of this impressive building. After a short stop, we were soon on our way back to Timaru – a 20 minute gradual downhill run all the way, easy and pleasant motoring with lots of people watching and waving as we went past. Back into the urban area, and then into Caroline Bay where the cars were all parked close together for lunch followed by field tests. This was followed by a wine and cheese sampling as we had our first chance to have a good look around all of the cars and bikes. There were some wellmatured restorations dating from the origins of the Club, others recently restored. All had their charm and quirks. That evening we returned to the clubrooms for meal – all catered by the club from their small kitchen. Believe me, no-one could complain about the food – a great effort by the team in the kitchen. Again, lots of happy chatter. Jenny and I have certainly noticed that it’s really easy to strike up conversations with complete strangers in the veteran movement – just start by asking them about their car or motorcycle and carry on – everyone is very friendly. Back at our motel, we set the alarm to turn the TV on and watch the NZ vs Ireland game. The next morning we were due back at the clubrooms at 9am for morning tea, and from there everyone was set off on a run that skirted the west side of Timaru heading to Pleasant Point. Here we were able to look through the Obsolete Iron garage – lots of interesting projects there including a Bonneville land-speed bike, and an exTempero replica D-Type Jaguar which is being re-built with a Toyota V12 engine. Also an interesting second-hand shop in the corner. From Pleasant Point we carried on to Geraldine, eventually arriving to have lunch

in the park opposite the camping ground there. By now the weather was pretty much perfect – about 20 degrees with virtually no wind. Certainly great weather to enjoy our picnic lunches. Our rally plaques were handed to us as we went into the park. At 2pm we were scheduled to visit Geraldine Auto Restorations, and most headed off there to look at their various projects. We were then left to our own devices to either explore the area, or return to Timaru to prepare for the awards evening at the Seven Oaks Reception Centre. We had a great dinner – good food and a fitting end to the rally. Despite our issues with the Wolseley Siddeley, we really enjoyed the weekend. We ended up bringing the car home again for some repair and modification work, but others were staying on to take part in the annual Mt Cook Rally the following weekend. We definitely have the Clyde Rally in our sights now, and longer term, we will definitely make an effort to get to the next National Veteran Rally in Gore in 2020. Congratulations to all the class winners, especially those in our branch who took away trophies. We all were winners though!

VELOSOLEX OWNERS GROUP (VOG’s) October 2019 run Spring weather is sure fickle eh! The morning of Tuesday 15 October was no exception. VOG 1 awoke at 6am to find a small amount of precipitation falling from the skies, curses I thought is this going to spoil the “VOG” team’s monthly blowout. We’ve all been looking forward to our next event for the past five weeks, and the excitement had reached a crescendo just to be stymied by the fickle finger of Mother Nature. But hoorah by the start time of 10:30am the gods were smiling on our parade and we were all on. Even the sun had started shining (well in Halswell anyway) and we never saw another drop of rain for the duration of our run. Start point this time was at the Halswell Domain where 11 riders turned up dressed in winter woollies and ready for the day’s fun. A short run this time leaving the domain and heading out on the new part of the “Quarryman’s Trail” which led us out

of the Halswell On the Park subdivision. Then it was onto Milns Rd to cut through to Sparks Rd and cross at the new pedestrian lights up Sparks Rd toward Hendersons Rd. We proceeded through the new wetlands area situated on the corner of Hendersons and Sparks Roads, wow what an amazing space, there must have been thousands of grasses planted in these massive grounds. What an improvement to the aesthetics around here. A short stop once we reached Hendersons Rd for the stragglers to catch up and we were on our way again heading along Cashmere Rd to eventually turn off into Ashgrove Tce and proceed all the way to Colombo St passing along the way the back entrance to my old high school Cashmere High. Crikey! Parking was at a premium along here with all the pupils’ cars parked on the sides of Ashgrove. Blimey when I attended in the early ‘60s I think there would have only been one or two at the most, one pupil I remember with a car was a lucky blighter who was allowed to

bring his fathers’ red Mk1 Zephyr convertible – what a smooth dude he thought he was! The car was a real girl magnet. It was just a straight run then all around the bumpy roads alongside the river to turn left at Tennyson St, just as well one’s false teeth are firmly held in as there has been no improvements to these roads since the earthquakes, the lateral spreading sure made a mess. All the bikes and riders managed to stay in one piece and continue with the journey to once again end up on the Quarryman’s Trail off Strickland St and through to Sparks Rd again. A quick journey then along Hoon Hay Rd to Lincoln Rd and to arrive at our visit today to view VCC member Philip Jeeves’ restoration of a 1922 Fiat 510S. What a labour of love this has been for Phil, seven years so far but wow what advances he has made from the bones he started with. A huge amount of the bits Phil has had to construct, “if you haven’t got it you make it” says Phil, hood bows, headlight shells, radiator cap, door catches, to name a few. The wooden framework has been done and that alone was a major task having to

laminate the wood to get the correct curves and the alignment of all this. Currently Phil is working on the metal skin which in itself is a real work of art with hardly a straight panel to be seen. When finished this car will be a sight to behold and a very rare car indeed believed to be the only one in New Zealand. Thank you Philip and Marietta for opening up your workshop for our team to view your four wheeled pride and joy. A quick treacherous trip after this visit along Halswell Rd fighting off other motorised beasts and traffic lights finally led us to our lunch stop at Craythorne’s Sports Bar and the end of the days’ run. Bob Kinnaird was the unlucky recipient of the infamous trophy today, a slight problem with the carburettors main jet led to a lack of enough go juice getting through to the heart of the mighty engine and keeping Bob propelled along, but thanks to a piece of fuse wire and Dave Backhouse’s skill in these matters Bob was soon up and running again.

It was a peaceful Sunday morning at Cutler Park, the birds were chirping, and the rabbits were eating when 22 cars turned up for some high revving, dirt flying action. Ross Butler and his team had set up four courses consisting of Slalom, Cloverleaf, Cam Belt and Ever decreasing circles. After registration we assembled for the drivers’ briefing, which had involved a couple of rules. Rule 1: Don’t knock the cones over. Rule 2: Get the course right.

At 10am the drivers started their engines, renounced their actual age, dug deep to find their inner teenager and lined up at the start gates. Each car could have two runs at each course, with the lowest time being counted towards the overall result. At the Slalom course we got to size up the competition and really see who was going to “bring it” for the day. The smaller cars did well on the short course and looked like they would dominate for the day but as we moved on the Cloverleaf the big cars really came through. To see a 1985 Jaguar drifting around a grass course is really something!

Chris Parker was also drifting hard, to the point even his picnic seat decided to leave the vehicle. As we moved from course to course the competition between the big cars and the small cars became increasingly more fierce, much to the delight of the spectators. The pressure was high on the race-hardened drivers with each one desperately trying to keep their speed up, the course correct and their crew chief happy. The pressure and hilarity of the event got to a few drivers, with mistakes in the navigation costing valuable points. At the end of the competition we assembled for lunch at The Barn with Ross unveiling the results for each course and the overall winners. 1 2 3= 4

a new casual monthly event

THIRD SUNDAY OF THE MONTH STARTING FEBRUARY 2020 WE ARE RUNNING A 6-MONTH TRIAL FOR A NEW MONTHLY EVENT ON THE BRANCH CALENDAR CALLED “OLD CARS, BIKES & COFFEE” (OCBC).

Some people may be happy just to do a short run there every month just to get the car or motorbike out, and this would be a great platform to do that.

This will be held on the third Sunday every month (coinciding with Parts Shed being open) in our club grounds (Cutler Park) from 8am to 11am. People, cars and motorcycles can arrive and leave within these times freely as they wish.

Quality barista coffee (plus tea and softdrink) with basic café-style food and seating available. Breakfast food not available.

The event will be free of charge and open to anyone (not just VCC members) to bring their old car, motorcycle or commercial vehicle out to meet and mingle with fellow enthusiasts. Veteran and vintage vehicles and bikes will be particularly welcome, but there will be an emphasis on any vehicle 30+ years old or any “modern classic” (including Japanese and European vehicles and motorcycles). Partners and children are also encouraged and welcome to come along (but no dogs please). The event is intended to complement but not compete with the monthly Kustom Breakfasts, in that it will cater for a different genre of vehicles and enthusiasts – not necessarily custom and hot-rods (although they will be welcome too), and also include older motorcycles. We will also set aside an area to have a monthly theme (marque, style, genre of car or motorcycle). February will be themed “Open Cars” in the hope that we’ll get a fine day. There will be no judging or scrutiny of vehicles or bikes attending. Looking after your own vehicle or machine at the meetings will be your responsibility. Any one-make club is welcome to use “Old Cars & Coffee” as a starting point for a monthly club run or event. An area will also be set aside for car and bike trailers and transporters for those who do not have a road-legal vehicle but want to bring one out to show, start or drive a very short distance only, or test it at a low speed away from the road environment. A VCC committee member will be present with membership and event information. Hope to see you at our first one on Sunday 16 February.

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PICNIC Saturday 7 December 2019

This year the picnic will be held in Kaiapoi as part of the Kaiapoi Christmas Festival celebrations. The Branch would like to provide a small present at the Christmas picnic to all financial members children and grandchildren up to the age of ten years. Wellington Branch Biennial Motorcycle Rally This event will be an opportunity to ride through interesting parts of Wellington, meet a great bunch of riders and share good food.
