June 2019 Noggin Display
12
July 2019 Noggin Display Our July Noggin Display was, the winners of “The Restoration of the Year 2019.” This year we had three, completely different vehicles, all of which were of a very high standard of restoration. Both of the cars were smaller than usual, with a lovely Mini Pick Up & a BMW Isetta microcar. The cute little BMW, of which 162,000 were made, is powered by a 236 cc 2 stoke motor cycle engine, using as little as 3 litres /100Kms. Congratulations to the following winners and thank you for displaying your vehicles. P60V Winner. Motor Cycle Winner. PWV Winner.
Lyndall & Peter Monro, Chris Leith, Arthur Poll,
August, (This month)
1970 Austin Mini Pick Up. 1955 Triumph 6T Thunderbird. 1958 BMW Isetta.
Commercial Rally Winners
September. “NOT TO BE MISSED”. We have a interesting collection of , “Toys you owned when you were a child,” PLUS a Large amazing display of “Antique Toys from Yesteryear”. Many years ago, the late Alisdair Brass, who over many years displayed a large number of his beautifully restored vehicles, at our Noggins, suggested to myself, that we have a display of “Toys you owned when you were a child”. So next month, September, we are combining this theme with, “ Antique Toys”. Don Muller. Ph 3856850.

Motorcycle Report If you thought we were having a mild winter then the last couple of weeks would put paid to that fantasy! Past Events 29th June – Fish & Chip Run. 4 or 5 of us, in brilliant sunny but cool (not frosty...) conditions did a slow run to Amberley in time for a lazy lunch in the sun outside the Vintage Café. Gee whizz they serve damned good coffee! Were going to go to Akaroa but the idea of dark shady black ice corners put us off… 10th July – Monthly Noggin. This was at Global Bus Ventures in Rolleston, Les Alsop kindly showed about 24 of us through the whole manufacturing process of bus creation from chassis to finished article. An adjournment to the Silver Dollar afterwards was most welcome as the night was “somewhat chilly”. Thanks Les, much appreciated! 13 – 14th July – Mid Winter Run. About 6 bikes (and a sooky car…) did this overnighter in fine sunny but frosty weather. Basically the inland route to Rangiora, Ashley, Sefton, Waikari, Greta Valley for lunch at the Fossil Point Café, then swing off the main road through Gore Bay to Cheviot. All stayed at the Cheviot Hotel and motel units. Good event, for mid-winter was run in excellent conditions! 27th July – Fish & Chip Run. A bit late for this report so will put pen to paper on this run next month. Future Events. 3rd August – Round the Bays Run. Meet at Woolston Working Mens’ Club 10.00 am for a 10.15 am departure. Exact route will be revealed on the day. 14th August – Noggin Night. This is to be at Dutton Garage, 148 Carlyle Street. Meet there at 7.30 pm – SHARP! It will help if ALL are there SHARP at 7.30 pm so we do not have people dribbling in all night. We need to know numbers intending on going to this, for OSH reasons. PLEASE let Phil Jeeves at philipjeeves21@gmail.com or 03 338 0666 know. An email mail-out has been made seeking this information, but if you have missed this PLEASE let Phil know. It is important you do so. 18th August – Working Bee and Ruff Run. More info after committee meeting on 1st August will be sent out by email. 25th August – Daffodil Rally for Cancer Society. Prizes on offer, also motorcycles encouraged to enter as prizes for bikes as well. $10 per vehicle usual donation to Cancer Society. Can anyone be persuaded to take the club Ariel???

Motorcycle Report 31st August – Fish & Chip Run. Possible destination Leon Witte’s extensive collection next door to Wheatsheaf Hotel, Governor’s Bay. This is to be confirmed, possibly by email-out prior. 7th September – Women’s and Young Driver’s Rallies. volunteered to assist with field tests.
Motorcycle Section has been
11 September – Noggin Night. Decided to have a Nostalgia Night in the Barn. A large box of old photo albums, slides and other memorabilia has been located in the Club Captain’s office. These go back into the 1970’s; you probably will see a number of people who have since passed away. 22 September – Ruff Run & VIC’s. 28th September – Fish & Chip Run. 9th October – Motorcycle Noggin, at The Casting Shop, Watts Road. That is about it for this month, have passed the shortest day so soon the days will get longer and the weather will warm up… Cheers, CML

CARRIED
GENERAL BUSINESS: Question asked about decision on Model A Club application for building. (recorded in general business committee meeting July 2018 “Declined”) Leigh Craythorne commented on the matter of committee members appear to be only running one rally each a year, and events are not being promoted sufficiently. Robust discussion followed with two or three other members adding their points of view. The Chairman then made the following points. 1: We have always asked for members to assist in running events, and there are always a number of loyal members who volunteer. Without their help, it would be difficult to run events, and their assistance is greatly appreciated. Committee members are generally fully involved in events other than their own section events, and assist each other in planning and running the multitude of events on our calendar.

Minutes for the 63nd Annual General Meeting... 2: For the second year in a row, there is no nomination for the position of Club Captain. This is a very big task and the Chairman's proposal for a small group of advisors to assist and advise the Club Captain in an unofficial and non committee role has been rejected by a few as being a sign that the committee members are not taking responsibility and should be undertaking this task and not asking for volunteers. Most branches are only a fraction of the size of Canterbury and yet many have one or more assistant Club Captains. We also have one of the largest calendars of any other Branch. 3: Canterbury has almost fifteen percent of the total membership of the VCCNZ. The work of maintaining and improving the large grounds ,clubrooms and numerous other facilities on our property requires the voluntary work of a considerable number of individuals including all of our committee and representatives who are fully committed to running this branch and providing the best facilities possiable.
4: The number of events on our calendar increases each year and now requires more than the seven or eight hard working committee members to run these events, and it is not unreasonable to ask our large membership for a hand from time to time. We are always grateful to that small group of members who make themselves avaliable when needed. It was pointed out that committee members are volunteers, most are in employment or business, and all have families and other commitments. 5: The Chairman expressed his support for the committee and thanked them for their dedication over the last year. He rejected the notion that his committee members did not work hard, and noted that there is now a vacancy for a Vintage Convenor, and Club Captain. This will place a considerable extra burden on those committee members left. 6:The chairman called for nominations from the floor for a team of helpers. Nothing was forthcoming. Colin Hey then moved a vote of thanks to the maintenance committee. Thanks were given to the ladies who prepared and served afternoon tea. There being no further business, the meeting was closed at _3.34pm. Signed Date
