Grasskhana Report

The Ross Butler Memorial Grasskhana

A little cool at the 10 am start but it warmed up as the sun shone through . A good array of cars and bikes turned up and several had two drivers. One rider had two bikes, old and not so old. This is not a speed event as such and was judged by the time difference between two runs on each of three courses. Speeds from sedate to furious were chosen by the driver. Some managed exact same times, others were a bit of an oops. Hitting a cone or running it over was a five second penalty. After some friendly encouragement two women were entered and came off each course with a smile all over their face. A good decision to be involved. It would be good to see more women next year. Some competitors needed a navigator to get the course correct which I think was an advantage as the cones start to look the same.

Some cars kicked up the dust and made a few grooves on the corners (sorry Mike and the grounds Team). A few mechanicals had to be sorted like a frantic trip to the parts shed (good thing it was open) to get another fuel pump and an exhaust muffler falling off the moped that was refitted and held on by a bungee. Congratulations to the winners, actually everyone who had a go, like the overall winner who shared the Austin 7 beating the owner. The Woman’s winner was also the youngest driver and sharing driving Dad’s car for the first time. Sharing seems to be the secret to success. I still have a smile on my face while I write this, so have a go and encourage someone else to drive with you to have some FUN. I got the shortest time on course, what does that say? Thank you to the crowd who came to look, cheer and laugh. Thank you to the Motorcycle Section that ran the event. Finally, a big thanks to Debbie Butler for donating and presenting the Ross Butler Memorial Cup. Ross started this event and enjoyed it a lot.
