Dining University dining has come a long way from cafeteria-style eating. Among the food choices VCU offers are sushi, fresh salads, stir-fry, homemade desserts, as well as burgers and pizza. At our state-of-the-art Shafer Court Dining Center, chefs fix fresh, made-to-order food right in front of you. But if you’re too rushed to sit for a meal, you can grab coffee, fresh baked goods and gourmet sandwiches to go at a number of on-campus cafÊs. Several residential dining plan options give you the choice of purchasing swipes of meals per semester and purchasing meals tax free from retail restaurants around VCU. Students who live off campus also have the option of purchasing dining plans.

Transportation Because of VCU’s convenient location, most students who live in residence halls don’t bring their cars to campus. Most points at the university are within several city blocks, so walking to class might take 10 minutes. Further points can be reached via RamRide, VCU’s transportation system. Bikes are also a preferred mode of transportation — VCU offers students more than 200 racks to secure their rides.

Tuition and fees Each May, the university’s board of visitors determines and sets the tuition and fee structure for the upcoming academic year. For information regarding tuition, fees and other expenses as well as residency status, descriptions of expenses and a tuition and fees calculator, please visit accounting.vcu.edu/tuition/calculator.
Financial aid VCU uses all available funds to help students gain access to a college education. Eligibility for financial aid varies depending on a student’s academic and financial circumstances. In most cases, each student will qualify for some form of financial assistance. Each year, the Office of Financial Aid disburses more than $270 million in student aid to more than 18,000 students. Current information on financial aid programs, policies and procedures, and links to free scholarship search services are available on the VCU financial aid website.

Do the math/SALT Graduating in four years instead of six saves in-state students an estimated $50,000. Taking 15 credit hours of course work a semester, instead of 12, will ensure you’re one of them. So, do the math and graduate on time with less debt to your name. For more info, visit dothemath.vcu.edu. VCU has partnered with American Student Assistance to bring you SALT®, a free resource for students and alumni that can help you track and plan your student loans, find scholarships, internships and jobs and receive personalized guidance to help you manage your finances. Scholarships Each fall, the University Undergraduate Scholarship Program grants financial awards to outstanding students entering VCU. Selection of scholars is made on the basis of merit in the area of academic achievement. Leadership, community service and artistic talent (when applicable) also may be considered. To be eligible for scholarship renewal, students must complete at least 28 credit hours on a full-time basis over the fall and spring semesters and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.3.
In addition to these merit-based scholarships, individual schools and departments at VCU offer scholarships to incoming freshmen. Visit the VCU Office of Financial Aid’s website at finaid.vcu.edu for more information about these types of scholarships, as well as information about outside sources of scholarship aid. Students also may wish to contact the VCU school to which they are applying or into which they have been admitted for more specific scholarship application information.
admissions.vcu.edu
Scholarships are awarded to fall semester applicants only. The majority of scholarships are awarded each fall to freshman applicants, though a very limited number of scholarships are awarded each fall to transfer applicants from the Virginia Community College System. If you’re seeking scholarship consideration, it is recommended that you submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
