I’ve been blessed to see in person many iconic events over several decades. When we were young I remember friends calling out that there’s another fire down at Cannery Row. We could see the fires from the Del Monte Beach. While it was tragic, it helped the area rebuild over and over until it has become what it is today. Some of my favorite moments and images that define the Monterey Peninsula region would be The Old Del Monte Hotel and now the Naval Post Graduate School and many festivals and events such as The Bing Crosby Golf Tournament now the AT&T Golf Tournament and the Monterey Jazz Festival to name a few. You might see some of these photos within this book. While The Monterey Herald may have changed names and addresses a few times, and the look and feel of Highway one may look different than some of the photos in this book, our connection to the the community, to our history, to our friends and to the ocean remains the same. We’re all storytellers, and I’ve always believed there are some of the best stories that start and continue from Monterey County. Enjoy these photos and share your stories with friends.
