LIFE STORIES
NORIE Norie, a finance supervisor in Manila, Phillipines, led a full life—until a surgery left her exhausted and weak. Following her doctor’s advice, Norie began drinking Ensure Gold once a day, which helped increase her strength, build immunity and improve nutrient absorption and digestive function. Today, at 52, she feels stronger, happier and healthier, living an active life, travelling and spending time with her family.

When avid cyclist Roberto Gullim was diagnosed with a blocked artery, Absorb— Abbott’s naturally dissolving stent— helped him get back on the saddle in a matter of weeks.
Talab Balubaid, a professional footballer from Saudi Arabia, credits FreeStyleLibre Pro for giving him the freedom to pursue his career. BETTER HEALTHCARE, BETTER OUTCOMES, BETTER NUTRITION Hospitals in Vietnam are overloaded. With 60% of the patients estimated to be malnourished or at risk of malnutrition, we saw an urgent need to reduce readmission rates and ALOS.
Abbott’s pioneering work in nutritive healthcare has shown the critical impact clinical nutrition plays in convalescence. In Vietnam, where hospitals lack sufficient beds and malnutrition is estimated in up to 60% of all patients, we saw the urgent need and opportunity to help government hospitals reduce care-cost and length of stay. In an MOU with the MOH, Vietnam, Abbott initiated the Quality Improvement Program (QIP) for Clinical Nutrition in Vietnam hospitals. This involved the development of a
standardized tool and process to screen and assess patients for nutritive deficiencies and enhancement of knowledge and capacities in healthcare professionals through QIP trainings. Abbott tied up with University Medical Center to assess the impact of this program with a 6-month pre/post measurement. The outcome of the program will be released and guide the application of nutritional guidelines across 50 Vietnamese hospitals.
