In this edition - Meet Nandita Upadhyay, Benefits Lead - India / APAC, who shares her inspiring story of embracing every challenge and growing up in her career.
Northeast India. My papa worked with the State Bank of India, so I grew up moving every two years, constantly changing schools, making new friends, and adapting to new places. That experience taught me the value of making my place wherever I go, connecting with people, and making meaningful connections.
Of all the places I lived in, Nagaland left a lasting impression on me
I lived in many places - Chennai, Kolkata, and across Northeast India - but Nagaland’s beauty was mesmerizing. My father’s rural posting took us to Mangkolemba, a stunning town with a serene waterfall next to our house, yet also a highly active Naxalite area. The perils of living there were in stark contrast to its beauty and natural surroundings. Some evenings, we’d switch off our lights by 7 p.m., quietly pretending no one was home in order to remain safe.
Through it all, I witnessed my mother’s unwavering courage as she navigated these challenges with a calm resilience, negotiating with multiple challenges that stood in front of her. From her, I learned invaluable lessons about facing difficulties head-on and adapting to whatever life brings - qualities that continue to guide me today.
Mangkolemba
I joined the HR Team as a contract worker in 2021
After completing my engineering, MBA and a couple of years of work experience, I joined the HR team in 2021 - a time when the company was in the midst of a very complex transition, from McAfee to Trellix. My role was that of a HR support representative, taking care of employee queries across regions where we had our offices. I soon became a full time employee and my role taught me more than I could ever imagine, right from processes that span across onboarding, to benefits, wellness, country specific policies, understanding different languages and cultural sensitivities to name a few.
I shifted gears in my career when an Internal Job Opportunity (IJO) came up
During my IDP discussions with my manager, I shared my interest in exploring a role in Benefits. As luck would have it, the position of Benefits Lead for India opened up just a few months later. My manager encouraged me to apply, providing unwavering support and reassurance, especially as I worked through my initial hesitations about stepping into such a crucial role. Finally, I applied and I was selected via the internal interview process to lead Benefits for India and APJ.
