ith the launch of the roup’s first electric vehicle first electric vehicle – the all new Audi e-tron, we have taken the first step towards the future of e-mobility and are committed to building a complete infrastructure around it. Electrification is bringing disruption in existing practices of the auto sector and we aim to stay ahead of the industry with our advanced technology and technical expertise. Our Group Technical Service has supported our brands Audi and Porsche getting them future ready for their vehicle launches. Over the last two years, our Brands, Group Technical Service, Legal, Purchase, RDC, Taxation, Controlling, Logistics, Plant engineering teams have extended remarkable

cooperation and knowledge sharing to make this happen. The electric vehicles use very high voltage and magnetic fields ma ing it very important for all the concerned technical sta to undergo a special certification process. olleagues from Group Technical Service Namdev Labade, Gaurav Pardeshi and Dinesh Naniwadekar were trained as High Voltage Experts in the beginning of Year 2020. During the lockdown last year, these globally certified experts conducted EV awareness training called “Electrically Instructed Person [EIP]“ for colleagues from SAVW plant. 15 sessions were conducted for 6 hours each covering 250 employees.

WILL – A VERY IMPORTANT DOCUMENT Anoop Pillai

BACKGROUND: A Will enables smooth transmission of assets owned by a person to the legal heirs upon his death. Legal heirs of persons who die intestate [i.e. without leaving a Will] may face legal challenges transferring the assets to their name. O course if a person ma es a nomination the assets will get transferred to the nominee upon his death. However, in law the rights of a legal heir are supreme as compared to a nominee. ISSUES FACED BY LEGAL HEIRS WHEN THE DECEASED DIES INTESTATE: n order to ma e a claim to the assets of the deceased who has died intestate, one requires either a letter of administration or a succession certificate issued by the court. Obtaining these documents will require approaching an advocate, filing a petition before a Court of law/authority, proving

credentials/asserting rights to the assets, all of which is quite a time consuming and expensive process. Hence preparing a Will is much easier and a faster process for the legal heirs to get the assets transferred in their names post the demise of the deceased. HOW TO WRITE A WILL: Testator Details – Name, age, address details of the person ma ing the ill. eneficiar etails – In case of multiple beneficiaries, the details of each beneficiary li e name, age, address, relationship of the beneficiary with the Testator. ro ert etails – The details of the assets/properties which the testator wants to give to his beneficiaries under his ill li e the description, the registration number, the date of registration and whether it is his self ac uired property etc. If it is a movable property, then the details and description of each should be clearly and individually mentioned. ecific ssets – ny specific assets li e a silver utensil or a golden bracelet should be specifically described. ecutor of the ill – The Testator should appoint an Executor to his Will. An Executor

is a person who shall implement the Will after the Testator’s death. i nature and ate – The Will should be clearly dated and signed by the Testator at the place in the document just below the last sentence in the document. itness Two witnesses should sign at the end of the document stating that they have witnessed the Testator sign the Will. A Will signed in the absence of witnesses becomes legally invalid. ee in it afe fter signatures, the becomes legally valid.

ill

Once the Will is executed the Testator should ma e sure to eep it in a safe loc er, or entrust with a Lawyer or an Executor who is reliable. REGISTRATION OF A WILL: There is no need to register the Will. But it always helps in clearing any future legal issues among the heirs. Once registered, no one can question the validity and authenticity of the Will or the Testator. MORE CROP PER DROP SAVW undertakes CSR project to save drought conditions in Naiphad & Mandoshi.

Naiphad and Mandoshi, two of the remotest villages around Pune, have been facing water shortage of unprecedented proportions following years of drought. With rain water harvesting being their only hope, the villagers have been able to conserve less than 14% of the rainwater received, till date. ŠKODA AUTO Volkswagen India, as part of CSR initiatives, has been supporting the two villages in harvesting precious rainwater. Through a project that started in December 2020 the company has so far created 2 earthen nala bunds and 18000 cubic meter deep trenches that can store upto 146.87 million litres of water. These were ready before the onset of monsoon in June this year. The aim of the project is to create 244 million litres of water storage capacity that will directly benefit 000 people and indirectly benefit around 7000 people living in the downstream area. A notable feature about this project is that it is an integrated natural resources management and will focus on soil conservation, sustainable agricultural practices, training of farmers, developing youth leadership in the villages, in addition to conserving rainwater.

TOGETHER TOWARDS SAFER ROADS At SAVW, we take a lot of pride in making safe cars for our customers and road safety is one of the crucial pillars of our CSR activities.

A

s per the WHO Global Report on Road Safety 2018, India accounts for almost 11 per cent of road crash-related deaths in the world – the highest among 199 countries followed by China and the US. The “Vision Zero Project” is a collaborative initiative between the Maharashtra State Development Corporation (MSRDC), ŠKODA AUTO Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL), and the SaveLIFE Foundation (SLF), to bring road accidents under control and eliminate fatalities on the Old Mumbai-Pune Highway. The project helped implement Zero Fatality Corridor on the NH-48 – a 360-degree road safety solution across the 5 E’s of Road Safety – Engineering, Enforcement, Emergency Care, Engagement and Enactment. The project covers a 111 km stretch of NH-48, also known as the Old Mumbai- Pune Highway. So far, this has led to an overall reduction in fatalities by 30%, from 298 deaths in 2017 to 206 in 2019 on the highway benefitting over 5.5 million commuters using the highway besides the population residing along the road. The project undertook data-driven and evidence-based interventions panning across Road Engineering, Police Enforcement, Emergency Care, and Education.

Additionally, 34 large boards have been installed informing the commuters of the Emergency Medical Services, accessible at the Highway. Over 500 retro reflective stickers have been installed on the trees to help with night-time visibility to prevent roadside hazards.

FIXING 998 ENGINEERING ISSUES: These included installation of over 185 chevron signs at dangerous curves at the highway, indicating the change in direction to the commuters. The before and after installation of chevron signs on the Highway, can be seen below:

Before

After

Over 500 officials, and volunteers were trained in in Basic Trauma Life Support skills including the processes of responding to emergencies and treating accidental victims.

After

Based on local and Highway Police’s data and the forensic crash investigation conducted by SLF team, various high fatality zones were identified and tactically treated. These included installation of crash attenuators, LED blinkers, signages prohibiting overtaking and maintaining speed limits. Appended below are the pre and post intervention pictures of one of the High Fatality Zones on the Highway, Anda point :

The project also covered optimized placement of 9 dedicated ambulances for faster response time to patients, outreach to over 5 million commuters using radio and outdoor communication and Smart Patrolling to prevent rear-ending crashes at crash hotpots on the highway. Contributed by Nisha Karkera
