Message from the President
We care about our products. That’s why we’re more than willing to stand behind everything we design, build and place in your stores. Fact is, I’m committed to being a part of everything we make (”Saris” is the combination of “Sara,” my wife’s name, and my name). We care about our people. They got us to where we are today, and they’ll continue to help us as we innovate and grow. We care about cycling. It’s the one sport that truly brings the Saris Cycling Group together. Our reasons for cycling may be different, but we all love it, and will continue to love it. We care about doing business the right way. We pride ourselves on being honest, ethical people to work with. If there’s a problem, we fix it, period. We care about you. Our dealers and customers are as much a part of the Saris Cycling Group as anyone. You’re the reason we do this and work so hard to do it better. And we want you with us for life. Thanks. Looking forward to a great year for both of us.

Our Story A story about a small rack company in Madison, WI... Saris Cycling Group has it’s origins back in 1973 when the Graber brothers invented their first bike rack. In 1989, Chris and Sara Fortune purchased the bike rack company and grew it to what it is today. The Saris brand was born in 1992, and CycleOps joined the family in 1999. Two years later, PowerTap entered the fold. We are continually innovating and in 2004, we introduced the first PowerTap-equipped Indoor Cycle. With a company of dedicated product managers, ingenious engineers, creative designers, and hardworking employees, you never know what is going to happen next.
Philosophy Innovate not Duplicate Saris believes in constantly pushing the technological boundaries for our products. We will always strive to bring you the most intuitive, innovative and performance-oriented training products on the market. Best in Class Strategy Saris will never settle for anything but the best. Our Best in Class Strategy demands that we innovate, design, produce and manufacture products that are leaders in their category. Examples of our Best in Class Strategy include: Saris Cycle-On Hitch Rack -- Gear of the Year Award, Outside Magazine 2003 Saris Bones -- 4.5 stars out of 5, Bicycling Magazine CycleOps PowerTap SL 2.4 -- Winner of the 2006 Eurobike Award
Plant Tour Simply Designed to Last... Welcome to our headquarters. Saris Cycling Group is located in Madison Wisconsin. Our office is an old farm house that we’ve expanded as we’ve grown. We design and build nearly all our products right here in Wisconsin in our plant behind the office. We hope you have some time to take a closer look.

Lifetime Warranty When we say “We bring the power of cycling to life, we mean it”. Talk’s cheap. That’s why you’ll see lifetime warranties on our Saris racks and CycleOps indoor cycles, trainers and rollers. Not three years, not five, but for as long as the original buyer owns it. Because we firmly believe that cycling is a lifetime sport. So why settle for anything less from the equipment that helps you enjoy it.

History COMPANY HISTORY, GROWTH AND PHILOSOPHY In 1974 two brothers, Joe and Jack Graber, founded Graber Products, Inc., the first major manufacturer of bicycle racks in North America. The company remains at the original location in Madison, Wisconsin. The business was purchased in 1989 by Chris and Sara Fortune. Under their leadership, the business has expanded in every way possible. • • • • • •
The physical plant has more than tripled in size. The number of employees has quadrupled. The product line has expanded to include a wide variety of bicycle carriers, stationary bicycle trainers and products to measure power output while riding. The Graber brothers marketed their products to the Midwest states. Under Chris and Sara, the market area has expanded to cover all of North America and countries throughout the world. The company is now called Saris Cycling Group, Inc. Saris Cycling Group’s brands, Saris and CycleOps, are recognized as being leaders in their class, due to innovative designs, ease of use, and high quality.
Saris Racks: One of the first steps Chris and Sara took after purchasing Graber Products, Inc. was to commission Italian designer, Fabio Pedrini. Fabio Pedrini was tutored by Italian master designer Gian Carlo Peretti, whose work appears in the Smithsonian and was recently featured in WallPaper Magazine’s Top 100 designs of the century. To this day Fabio’s innovative designs still lead the marketplace. Graber is proud to include the following products, designed by Fabio, in its lineup: 1992 – Fabio’s truly innovative roof rack was introduced by Chris and Sara under the Saris brand. (The name Saris was arrived at by combining the first names of Sara and Chris.) This rack still far surpasses any other roof rack in ease of use. 1997 – Fabio’s Bones racks is launched to the market. Twelve years later, this design is still considered the most stylized and forward thinking rack in the bicycling industry. When placed on the trunk, its appearance resembles a wishbone, hence the name. Constructed of engineered resin, this rack never rusts, it adjusts to the contours of most vehicles and adapts to carry the greatest variety of bikes on the market. Its anti-sway design makes it the most stable rack available. 2003 – Fabio finished design of the most innovative hitch rack on the market, the Cycle-On. It carries women’s, juvenile and unique style frames securely and conveniently on a special wheel tray, with a latching arm. Consumers will appreciate the convenience of being able to fold the rack up when not in use, and being able to pull it out of the way in order to access the rear door or trunk of their vehicle. In addition to these racks designed by Fabio, our Saris product lineup currently includes stationary parking and storage systems, hitch racks, and trunk racks. Each rack has versatility in its features and choices allowing the rack to adapt to the style and number of bicycles it can carry.

CycleOps Trainers and CycleOps PowerTap: 1999 -- Sara and Chris purchased Cycle-Ops, which had been recognized as the leading brand of stationary bicycle trainer. Under the guidance of Graber’s superb team of engineers, this product line has continued to improve and expand. Consumers have the choice of three types of CycleOps trainers: the Wind, Magneto and the world’s leading trainer, the CycleOps Fluid2. 2001 – Sara and Chris purchased PowerTap. This revolutionary product, which measures power use in cycling, has added yet another level of performance training to the CycleOps line. We continue to improve and add features to this line, which leverages our position as leader in the performance training market. Under the guidance of our marketing director, CycleOps trainers and PowerTap products are being used by the world’s top professional cycling teams, their trainers and their coaches. The major teams we are partnered with include Silence-Lotto and Team Garmin-Slipstream. Other sponsorships include Team Euskaltel-Euskadi and Allessandro Ballan, current road cycling World Champion. 2004 – Recognizing the increased interest in performance training by enthusiasts and the need for education on the benefits of training with power, Saris Cycling Group hired Dr. Allen Lim as the Director of Education. Dr. Lim leads clinics and training camps around the nation, as well as working with Team Garmin-Slipstream. Dr. Lim helped Floyd Landis interpret his daily performance during the 2005 Tour de France, and worked with Christian VandeVelde in the 2008 Tour de France. 2005 – CycleOps added Indoor Cycles to its lineup of fitness products. This innovative design gives the user the ability to duplicate the fit and feel of a real bike. By incorporating our PowerTap, users can tailor a training program to his/her individual needs. PowerAgent software lets the user analyze performance on a PC or a Mac. 2009 - Consumers have the choice of six types of CycleOps trainers: The PowerBeam Pro, the SuperMagneto Pro, the JetFluid Pro, the Wind, Magneto and the world’s leading trainer, the CycleOps Fluid2. All of our CycleOps PowerTaps are now wireless, integrating ANT+ Sport transmission technology.
Our company vision is to take people where they want to be! Our company philosophy is to do what is right – for our employees, for our customers, for our industry, and for our community.

Trainer Fact Its not about the flywheel size! Its about how you use it!
Flywheel weight vs. Flywheel shape •
Heavy flywheels provide good ride feel but are too heavy to transport, they have a lot of ‘wasted’ weight near the center. Wasted weight is heavy to carry and offers minimal inertia.
•
Flywheels that are optimized to the resistance unit with which they are matched provide the right level of inertia that serve the goals of indoor training and are easy to transport.
e road or trail.
PowerTuned Technology •
What is it? The optimal pairing of flywheel mass and resistance type that provides real world inertia while not adding unnecessary weight to the trainer.
•
What is the benefit? Trainers that feature PowerTuned Technology, have better road feel, are more realistic and optimize training effect.
PowerTuned e road or trail. technology creates real-world feel by matching the rider with the right flywheel and resistance unit combination.

Science of Trainers Stationary trainers simulate riding outdoors by balancing two key elements. 1. Friction 2. Inertia
Trainer friction provides the resistance that simulates riding up a hill or into the wind.
Trainer inertia creates momentum, simulating increased speed due to power output or simply riding downhill.
Outdoors, inertia and friction have a natural relationship. An indoor trainer strives to simulate that relationship using resistance units and flywheels. PowerTuned technology creates real-world feel by matching the rider with the right flywheel and resistance unit combination. e road or trail. Bringing the Power of Cycling to Life. How the resistance works PowerTuned flywheel creates higher inertia for a ride that’s like being out on the open road. Chamber and impeller allows for optimal fluid distribution for a smooth and quiet ride.
Cooling Airflow Design
Our patented design channels 100% of intake air to efficiently cool the resistance unit and maintain a consistent power curve.
Individually precision balanced flywheel eliminates “dead weight” and maximizes inertia.

JetFluid PRO vs. Kinetic •
PowerTuned technology uses the most extensive library of power data from real world training and racing to optimize the resistance to flywheel relationship. This is because CycleOps owns PowerTap.
•
No other fluid trainer handles changes in heat due to accelerations and intense efforts like the JetFluid Pro because of the patented airflow yoke. This means that the trainer replicates the feeling of riding outside better and more consistently
•
CycleOps Pro Series trainers are pre-assembled in the box meaning the dealer and consumer get to ride the product quicker and easier.

How the resistance unit works Each setting allows the unit’s four rare earth magnets to move to a different controlled working diameter as centrifugal force pushes them away from the center. The farther away the magnet is from center, the higher the resistance. Spring-loaded magnets create a more desirable progressive resistance power curve.
Designed to feel real Because we designed the flywheel with more material on the outer surface, the SuperMagneto Pro delivers a smoother ride and more road-like feel. Precision-balanced flywheels add to the realism.

SuperMagneto PRO vs. Blackburn •
Blackburn’s friction plate and clutch mechanism reduces resistance too quickly at the dead spot of the pedal stroke, artificially robbing inertia.
•
In order for Blackburn users to change power curves, users must disassemble the unit.
•
CycleOps Pro Series frames allow them to be leveled with a single knob whereas Blackburn requires 2 adjustments.

What is Power? •
Power is simply the amount of mechanical work or energy you expend in a given time frame measured as a watt.
Why train with Power? •
Speed changes with terrain and wind resistance.
•
Heart Rate response lags behind actual effort and measures body’s response, not the work being done.
•
Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) is too subjective by itself and relies on too many factors.
•
Power is the most objective measure of intensity. By measuring power we can precisely track changes in work load and instensity to achieve training stimulus. This helps us get fitter and faster so we achieve our cycling goals. Therefore by measuring power you will achieve your cycling goals.
Why PowerTap? •
PowerTap offers the optimal balance of price/accuracy in the power meter category. PowerTap is equally as accurate (+/- 1.5%) as the SRM for 1/2 the price.
•
PowerTap is wireless and can easily be moved from bike to bike. Because it is built into a Mavic wheel PowerTap can be easily switched between bikes in under 2 minutes allowing for complete capture of training and racing data.
•
PowerTap includes PowerAgent software Available for PC and Mac in multiple languages (FR, SP, IT, DE, NL), PowerAgent provides complete current and historical analysis of your training data.
•
The CycleOps PowerTap is the world’s leading power measurement system. The PowerTap is recognized by cyclists the world over as a reliable and affordable training tool. It has received numerous awards for performance, quality and design.

Key Advantages of using a PowerTap •
Helps you set a pacing strategy, regulating effort over time. Because the PowerTap measures current and average power as well as time in zones it can help you regulate your effort for a long ride. As an example – use the Average Power function to see if the 2nd hour of your ride was better than your first.
•
Helps you optimize cadence. The PowerTap measures cadence by calculating the torque profile measured at the hub. It can also help you optimize your cadence. When a higher cadence produces a lower power output and less heart rate response (lower beats per minute) you have found an efficient cadence to pedal at.
•
Helps you know when and how often to eat during and after riding. Because the PowerTap measures energy expenditure in Kilojoules (as displayed by the “E” on the lower line of the display) it gives you an excellent indication of how much fuel you need to consume during or after a hard ride. Or how much not to eat if you’re trying to lose weight.
•
Helps you optimize time and effort spent in key zones while riding. The PowerTap measures Peak Power (maximum efforts for certain periods of time) and Time in Zones (amount of time spent in key threshold training zones). 2 interesting functions that allow you to zero in on your strengths and target your weakness’s all while on the bike. Use these features to plan your training.
•
Helps you optimize aerodynamics for time trials and triathlons. The PowerTap is sensitive and accurate enough that you can use it as a virtual wind tunnel. Pedaling down a flat road on a windless day, test out various positions on your bike – in the drops, on the hoods, on your tri bars. At a fixed speed, changes in power output will reflect improvements in aerodynamics.
Points of Reference •
1 horse power = 746 watts
•
A 68 kilogram (150 lb) rider with an 8.6 kg (19 lb) bike at 20 mph on flat ground with no wind requires about 177 watts
•
56.5 W are required to press a 20 lb dumbbell 25 in. Overhead in one second
•
Tour de France winners can generate 465 watts for over 30 minutes

PowerTap in the Press The CycleOps PowerTap is a favorite of Tech Columns, Buyer’s Guides, and Gear Reviews, both in print and online. If you open up the pages of most cycling publications, you’re likely to find a positive review of one of the PowerTap models. We are very proud of this, as gear reviews are often the first step towards product and brand awareness. The PowerTap is also referenced in many people’s personal blogs and online training diaries. This online prescence is very valuable.

Monday 3rd November 2008 - Mike Hawkins Power is the best way to gauge training effort and therefore train effectively, and the PowerTap seems the easiest way to get that all-important information, but do we agree? Sitting at the top of CycleOps' PowerTap range, this version features a lightweight hub, wireless connectivity to the head unit, and uses 2.4GHz data transmission to avoid information break-up. Total cost is £1,000.

Comprising nothing more than a hub and head unit, there is very little to fitting the SL 2.4, providing you have the hub built into a wheel — a £70 additional cost when built into a Mavic Open Pro rim. The wheel works like any other and doesn't need any form of sensor or sender to communicate with the handlebar-mounted head unit. Of course, a chest strap is supplied to give heart rate readings. Already paired with the CPU, the chest strap and hub work from the first time you switch them on, and the set-up, date/time and wheel size can be entered either from the head unit or via your home computer — a CD comes with the software. It's hard to imagine a way CycleOps could make the set-up or operation simpler; the computer operates in a very clear and straightforward manner and displays all the relevant info. In fact, the only criticism could be directed at the size of the display, as it can be hard to see in the rain or low light conditions — but that's hardly a deal breaker. Having used all of the power systems available, the PowerTap is the most user-friendly and the 2.4 Wireless the best of the best. There may be more expensive options, but after just one ride, the SL 2.4 is clearly the best if you don't have a sports science degree.

2009 Market Trends Shifting in working out environment •
Consumers downsizing gym memberships and purchasing home equipment or nothing at all
Economic downturn •
Consumers buying down to ration amount of disposable income.
Confusion in marketplace •
Some consumers and dealers view product as a fitness product, others view it as a cycling indoor training product which plays a part in how they precieve the product and how/if they purchase
Key Factors for Dealers to Successfully Sell Indoor Cycles 1. Ability to develop synergy with other cycling products (PowerTap Technology similar to accessory on your outdoor bike) 2. Ability to identify high end cyclist’s with multiple bikes and create need for “indoor bike” 3. Education on importance of training with Power (You can’t improve what you can’t measure) 4. Ability to service similar to your outdoor bike
