SLEEVE FOR 13” OR 15” MacBook Pro $69.95 Tan **Also available in black
One of our most popular designs, back in its best shape ever. We’ve reworked every element of the praised Macbook sleeve design and made it even better. We started with the core, the materials, and developed every component with the highest possible attention to detail. Anti-slip dots provide maximized grip. The leather flap, with one snap button on the right, provides a simple closure and keeps your device secure. The rivets are lined to keep your Macbook from touching anything but soft, thick felt. When you take the sleeve in hand, you’ll instantly notice the quality of the materials. Felt is a sustainable and renewable material, offering durability while remaining soft to the touch. Felt can be easily cleaned, and a special treatment gives it excellent anti-peeling properties and makes the sleeve water repellent.

BACK OF MIND By Eric Lipsey CEO, Entrepreneur | EricLipsey.com
hen I was a child growing up in rural Alabama, my friends and I played football, climbed trees and rolled downhill in barrels. We always found something to do to keep ourselves entertained. Aside harsh weather, nightfall or the occasional Saturday morning, we rarely watched television. However, I can still remember the ever so popular Wendy’s commercial with the elderly woman who would drop the famous line, “Where’s the Beef ?” I had never eaten at a Wendy’s before, but had my first opportunity when I was thirteen years old. Pulling into the Wendy’s parking lot, I noticed there was also a Taco Bell and a Burger King. As you could probably imagine, I chose Wendy’s. Why? Because Wendy’s implanted

a memory that was still at the forefront of my mind. I didn’t know much about Taco Bell or Burger King, so to me, Wendy’s was the obvious choice.
Small businesses on the other hand seem to believe that, “If you build it, they will come!” That would be nice, but it’s far from reality.
Did Wendy’s have much better food than the others? I didn’t know. At the time, I had no experience with either. I simply went with what seemed remotely familiar. Burger King or Taco Bell may have had better food, but Wendy’s had won the advertising battle.
When I was younger, I would often hear adults say, “Out of sight; out of mind!” It was used to describe long distance relationships. That said, what is a business transaction, but a
The point of sharing this experience is to help you, the reader, understand the value of advertising. The ultimate question when it comes to the customers you have and the customers you want is, “Are you in the front of their minds, or the back of their minds?” When they are ready to seek out service, will they think of you? If you’re not in the front of their minds, who is? No need to guess here. If it’s not you, it’s your competition. There is a definite psychology to visual impressions. That’s why big businesses will spend billions of dollars each year to stay in front of you. Whether it’s via internet, billboards, radio, television, etc., they want you to know where they are and what they have to offer.
relationship between a business and a consumer? If they never see you nor hear from you, they may be gone with the wind and so might the existence of your business. This is not to say you should throw your money at everything that moves. Every advertising medium won’t be right for you. You need to know who your target audience is. If the medium you’re considering is unable to get you in front of your ideal audience and at a price that will allow you to be profitable, then continue looking. There are many options from which to choose. Also refrain from following cookie-cutter advice. Almost everyone will think they know exactly what you should be doing. Be strategic in your approach. Otherwise, you may find yourself chasing your own tail, wasting both precious time and money.
“When they are ready to seek out service, will they think of you?” You ultimately want to stay in front of your existing customer and at the same time, get in front of potential customers. Not in an invasive or annoying manner of course, but you want to be in the front of their minds when they need the product or service you offer. You can accomplish this by choosing the right advertising medium. Will you be in front of mind or back of mind? While you can’t control this factor, you can certainly influence it! VENTREMAGAZINE.COM

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Behind every succesful entrepreneur is an incredible story. And for most entrepreneurs, their story is oftentimes one of many challenges and fortuities. There will most likely be moments when you (or others) question your purpose. Others who lack belief in you may cause you to not believe in yourself. The fear of failure may set in but this is when you have to decide what happens next. Some choose to surrender. Others choose to overcome. This path will require many valuable (and perhaps expensive) lessons and undoubtedly challenge your resilience. These moments may leave you feeling inadequate or uncertain while others may leave you feeling eager and optimistic. One thing we must not forget is that we are in control. We are the protagonist. We get to decide when and what will be our next move. Afterall, “No man can walk out on his own story.”

speaking. You have to die a little and shed your persona before you can get up on stage in front of dozens of eyeballs to improvise. Picture this: a room filled with 18 strangers sitting in a semi-circle. The uncomfortable silence is so thick you can cut it with a knife. Skydiving over New Zealand pales in comparison to the level of fear I have during this moment. I sit nervously reading our Improv 101 manual thinking, “What have I gotten myself into?”
28 VENTRE

Entrepreneurial Lifestyle Magazine
Let’s start with the three cardinal rules of improv. ONE Have Fun! If you’re not having fun, you’re not doing your best improv.
Improv: One word capable
This whole adventure started when I was falling asleep a few nights before and had the idea of improv pop into my head. Like all ideas that pop into my head as I drift to sleep, I write them down in my notepad so I can further investigate my musings the following morning. The next
rules we must follow, are forever etched in my mind. What I realized is that the lessons and rules are perfect roadmaps not only for entrepreneurship, but for life. And now I’d like to share them with you.
morning I googled “improv classes near me” and lo and behold there was one 500 feet away. GULP! It was do or die. So I sent an email asking what the specifics were and shared with them that I was “excited and terrified.” Their response was simple: “That’s exactly what you are supposed to feel. See you tomorrow.” There I was, diving out of an airplane. Fast forward to today. I have gone through 4 weeks of classes and the fear, for the most part, has melted away. But the lessons improv teaches, and more specifically the
Have fun: Let’s break this down as it relates to entrepreneurship, shall we? If you’re not having fun doing what you do, that’s a huge red flag. I’m not saying you have to love it 100% of the time. No one loves the admin process that comes with running a business, but if you don’t love what you do 70-90% of the time and have fun doing it, it’s probably time for some soul searching or better yet, delegation and re-engagement. Failure: It has struck fear in the hearts of men for many millennia. It could be something that keeps you stuck or it could be something that propels you forward. You have the power to choose how you interact with fear. Personally, it took me a long time to be OK with failure, specifically
failing forward. I just had to shift my perspective to change my relationship with fear and allow it to be a stepping-stone rather than a ball and chain. Is there something you can do today to look fear in the eye and say, “bring it?” Be a good sport: This one is huge. As entrepreneurs, it is easy to get sucked into the competitive side. It is also easy to get sucked into the ego’s dark side. When you are able to recognize there is more than enough business to go around and a rising tide lifts all boats, magic happens. What can you do today to help someone else and in turn help yourself ?
Pacing: In improv, this means to go fast so you don’t get stuck in your head. I think this is prudent to life and business. Sometimes as entrepreneurs, we can get stuck in what’s known as “analysis paralysis”. And the only way to break free is action. I’m not saying to be hasty or make bad decisions, but I am saying that you have to be willing to take a step into the somewhat unknown until you can see the whole picture. I believe consistency is key and slow and steady wins the race. Don’t set yourself up for hardships by starting and stopping all the time. If you get stuck, find a way to keep moving forward.
Now I want to explain to you how to be E.P.I.C. Our improv instructor hammered this into our heads. “Be more EPIC!” In simple terms, it breaks down to the following: Energy - Pacing In the Moment – Commitment! What does this mean to the business maverick and human? Let’s break it down.
In the moment: This is one of the hardest for me. I know when I am in class, I have to consciously not plan what I am going to say. I have to be a blank canvas, willing to accept whatever character, line, or scene sent my way. The magic of being in the moment is that synergy appears and you can really listen and react. It’s amazing how a scene will start out in one place, then go in a completely different direction because you were willing to go with it. This is such an important concept for life and business. When you’re able to be present (okay mostly present), you can accomplish more than expected. Focusing too much on past challenges or what the future may hold can cause you to get stuck or overwhelmed. But if you thrive in the present, you can create solutions you may not have previously seen. Practice being present!
Energy: Have you ever noticed how electric someone becomes when they’ve got “good energy” and conversely how fast you want to exit stage left when someone has “bad energy?” It makes perfect sense. That’s why the start of being EPIC is all about energy. Whatever you’re doing, do it to the best of your ability, with physical, emotional, and maybe even spiritual energy. Like attracts like. How can you put the best energy into your project, making sure that when it is done, positive energy is reflected back to you?
Commitment: I like to call this Grit. When you have grit and “stick-to-it-ness” you are able to overcome so many more obstacles that are synonymous with success and entrepreneurship. If you decide to play a character or a scene in improv, you have to be all in! You have to see it through and ride the roller coaster to the end. This is the same quality that Angela Duckworth talks about regarding Grit. She says the ability to have grit is one of the single biggest predictors of success. People who have significantly more passion, perseverance and stamina, day in day out, living life like a marathon, are the ones who reach the levels of success they desire. It isn’t their IQ , goodlooks, social intelligence or talent that brings on success, it’s their GRIT. Can you commit to your dreams? Can you do the things you need to do to get where you want to go, no matter what? Why do I share my improv experience with you? The simple reason is to shake you out of a perspective that might be holding you back. I hope through my life lessons I can help you avoid pitfalls into which I fell. Don’t let life pass you by because you are stuck in the past or fear the future. Don’t half-heartedly do your work. Don’t be afraid of failure. Embrace it, and make it fun! At the end of the day, we all want to be successful, feel valued and make our mark. Let’s take a page out of Improv and be EPIC with everything we do. VENTREMAGAZINE.COM

ustin was born into the restaurant business. His grandparents owned “The Waverly Inn”, located in Greenwich Village, often referred to as “the village” in Manhattan, NYC. As he grew older, spending countless hours in the culture, he hoped to absorb the magic they seemed to bring to the hospitality industry.

Like many who follow the advice of those in education, Justin decided to go to college after high school. In 1986, he began his college studies in computer science. After one semester, he thought, “What the hell am I doing?” He knew computer science wasn’t the correct suitable career path. He decided to return to his roots. He soon opened his own restaurant, Willie T’s, in Key West. After 10 years, Justin sold his restaurant and decided to move to Denver in 2006. He felt as if Denver was trying to find its identity, i.e. “a city in it’s 20s,”. He believed there was opportunity to find himself as a restaurateur and explore new concepts. The first order of business was to open

Justin says he wasn’t surprised he got his ass kicked. After all, starting a business without capital, investors or family money was the perfect recipe for struggle. Being the relentless entrepreneur he is, Justin kept searching for other sources of capital. He eventually became aware of OED, Denver’s Office of Economic Development. This is where he received the capital needed to propel forward. Because the restaurant would be in an enterprise zone, he was able to secure a seven-year loan at a considerably lower rate than any other monies. He was able to pay off the loan with the paltry interest rate in just 9 short months. As Steve Jobs would have said, “Here’s to the crazy ones.” Justin says he felt that description was fitting considering the monumental scale of the concept and the financial “juevos” needed to achieve it. COVER STORY
The facts: there aren’t enough vegetable focused restaurants in Denver, let alone the country, probably the world; there aren’t enough fast casual healthy options; there aren’t enough affordable places to eat; there aren’t enough people equating nutrition with wellness. So, why not open an eatery that offers all of those things? Vital Root is committed to keeping it real. Real ingredients. Real food. Real passion. People’s food preferences have evolved. They want alternative choices. They want healthier options. They want fun, lively, flavorful ingredients. They want a mind body connection. They don’t want limits. And they want to be inspired. Vital Root is one answer to the omnivore’s dilemma. It’s not the only answer, but at least it’s a start.

Craveability is the ultimate goal for any dish. According to Justin, the most important ingredient to the restaurant is culture. “Guest driven. Groove friendly. Gastronomically equal.” “We’re into organic. Food that is locally grown. Not just locally grown food but locally grown community. Not just organic food, organic design and organic people. But Edible Beats isn’t about buzzwords. We walk the talk. Since we launched in late 2008, Edible Beats concept group has grown six-restaurants strong — Root Down, Linger, Root Down DIA, Ophelia’s, Vital Root, and El Five — and is known for responsibly grown and sourced, innovatively simple, vegetable-forward menus. Whether it’s our wind-powered buildings, or our 4,000-squarefoot gardens in the middle of the city that supply our restaurants’ veggies, we’re always looking for ways to keep it real. And people enjoy us. We’ve been noted beyond the local news — from New York Times reviews to Cooking Channel stardom. Google us, you’ll see. Each Edible Beats restaurant thrives on inspired, upcycled design from their original buildings’ past lives: be it an adult video library turned boudoirstyle gastrobrothel, a 1950s gas station turned mid-century neighborhood staple, or a mortuary turned eclectic LoHi gem. SOLVING BACKPAIN THROUGH ELEGANT SENSING AND CUSTOM COACHING
Back pain is the most prevalent source of chronic pain, and the leading cause of disability for Americans under the age of 45. Working at desks, slouching over phones, and leaning over keyboards, millions of people put themselves at risk for back pain because of poor posture. Awareness of posture is key to transforming bad habits that form early and do damage over time. By holding your body in good posture, you strengthen your core and supporting muscles, building good musle memory and protecting your back. Good posture is also tied to everything from stress to confidence, appearance, and general well-being. So what if we had a sensitive and subtle way to know immediately when we started to slouch, a quiet reminder felt only by ourselves? The Lumo Lift approaches posture in a way that’s never been done before. Clipped onto your shirt, right below your collarbone using a secure magnetic clasp, the Lumo Lift tracks your posture and activity. Using subtle vibrations as feedback, it will gently vibrate to remind you to straighten up your posture every time you begin to slouch. Patented biomechanics monitoring sensors in the Lumo Lift use angle displacement as a measure to let you know when your body slouches away from what you’ve calibrated as your standard of good posture. The customizable time delay for vibrational feedback allows for a personalized posture coaching experience. With the integration of technology, the Lumo Lift is the agent of change needed to improve your posture long-term. Being able to consistently sit and stand with a posture that supports overall health and well-being involves learning with the body as well as with the mind. The Lumo Lift situates learning in real time, permitting you to make the steady small adjustments that quickly become vitally useful habits in daily life. L U M O B O D Y T E C H . C O M

Ladies, imagine a sustainable product that could replace your need for tampons and pads. A stylish and comfortable pair of underwear that works as a double agent to keep you clean and dry during you’re menstrual cycle. THINX does just that! “Every pair of THINX has a top layer that wicks all liquid into a thin absorption layer right beneath, so that you feel super dry. This way you can wear’em all day long.” THINX women’s underwear are designed, by women in New York City, to absorb the liquid while keeping you dry and feeling clean. THINX are made in a family run factory in Sri Lanka that gives back by being committed to empowering the women they employ with education and training. 52 VENTRE

“By reimagining feminine hygiene products to provide support, comfort, confidence, and peace of mind, we aim to eliminate shame, empowering women around the world.”
THINX can be worn in addition to tampons or pads; and yes, even as an alternative! THINX is also working towards a greater goal. They have partnered with AFRIpads in Uganda, which trains women to work for themselves making and selling reusable pads. Each pair of underwear you purchase helps to fund this cause. This cause in turn give girls access to protection during their cycle to help prevent them from missing school. According to the article, Women can Bleed Green on alternet.org, a woman throws away 250 to 300 pounds of feminine hygiene products in her lifetime. In addition the Ocean Conservancy found that tampon applicators made up 2.2% of debris on U.S. coastlines.
Consider all the waste that could be avoided by purchasing and wearing THINX.

the word and money with Kristen Judd
Divorce sucks! It‘s stressful, frustrating and emotionally draining. It can also be physically draining and the financial implications are often scary! You spend significant years of your life building a family to have everything turned upside down in an instant. Will the helplessness go away? When do you start to feel in control again? How’s this new life and identity going to change? How is the money going to work? Whether you are the breadwinner, worked part time, stayed home or helped build an empire, you are worthy! Your time and your sacrifices are worthy. Truly, it has never just been “his” money or “her” money. It has always been “our” money. Why is it different now that you’re going in different directions? You don’t have to settle for struggle. You shouldn’t have to do the money shuffle to make ends meet. If you are feeling powerless, stuck or just want to give up, empower yourself, especially in relation to money. It’s a liberating way to gain confidence. Gain control in a situation where it may feel you’re completely out of control. You may be feeling that you’re all alone. Maybe you feel like you have no support when it comes to this divorce. I’m here to tell you that you’re most definitely not alone and you are able to attain the support you need. Getting right about your money is possibly the first and most powerful thing you can do when it comes to this situation. Here’s where you can start: 1. Seek out good financial education. There are books, classes and resources available to help you. There are support groups. Some churches offer divorce-care. Also, Patrick Kelley, Dave Ramsey and Tony Robbins offer great financial education through some of their books.

2. Do the homework. You need to understand where you are today and figure out what your goals are for tomorrow and each day thereafter. Do you have debt? If so, list it out. It’s important to know the debtors name, amount, monthly payment and interest rate. How much income are you expecting each month? How much are you spending each month?
“Gain control in
a situation where it may feel you’re completely out of control.”
3. Now that you know where you stand, let’s put the knowledge into action. This is the most important part. You may find yourself in a situation where you are making financial decisions for the first time. Remember, there is no right answer! Just try to make the best decision based on the information you have today. Your situation is very different from your cousins or friends down the street. This is where the empowering part happens. Take control and make decisions based on your needs and goals. Let’s face it; this new life you’re about to enter is going to allow you an opportunity to be in the drivers seat when it comes to your finaces. Find your tribe! Remember you are not alone! There are people who understand what you’re going through. You will get through this with grace and love. You’ll be stronger because of it. Remember that your emotions during this challenging time are temporary. They do not have to be terminal. There is light at the end of the tunnel. You may feel as if you don’t have control over the outcome, but you will feel much better knowing that you have control over your finances. I encourage you to empower yourself with education and most importantly, take necessary actions to set yourself up for success. Get assistance creating a plan to win in this thing called life! Conveniently nestled in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood of West Hollywood; neighboring Beverly Hills, Hancock Park and Hollywood proper makes the Farmer’s Daughter boutique hotel the hottest landing in town. ach room has sass, but for some reason the sorcery of the Robin Room speaks to me time and time again. The spice of the “No Tell Room” is worth a gander for our next trip. The art in the Farmer’s Suite gives one ideas to take home and the images on their website makes you want to be there now.
The art installation carved into the wall of the Robin’s Room was epic. The usage of space is smart and the in-room safe fit our techy stuff perfectly. The maid earned an extra tip from this germaphobe for being as picky as me when it comes to cleanliness. Spacious standing showers in the Robin Room pumped out plenty of hot water 24/7. Eye the maid’s cart stealthily, as those C.O. Bigelow Apothecaries products are heavenly. Every amenity was available and the oversized standing mirror in our room wanted to come home with me. Take up brief residence at Farmer’s Daughter if you’re ever in need of a treasured get-away. This space doesn’t lack in charisma or style; smashing memories are inevitable.

The dining experience at STK is elevating and seductive. My surrender kicked in somewhere between the standing DJ’s choice of Siouxsie and the Banshees and the mouth-watering lobster ravioli. The ideal anchor from all the Hollywood tourism chaos nearby, everything vibrates to a softer hum at Delphine Restaurant. The seduction of our senses started with Crispy Calamari and a spicy aioli. hen traveling to the west coast, you must have an insight on where to stay. Why? Because you don’t want to miss anything. This is why we chose La Casa del Camino. This historic and charmingly decorated hotel makes for the ideal stay on one of California’s most sought after beaches. We were literally less than 30 steps from nirvana. Not only was the view breathtaking, as we heard each one crashing into the shore, wave by wave, another thought escaped our unsettled minds. This euphoric energy must have had an effect on the staff. We were greeted with smiling faces and friendly responses to any questions and special requests. We arrived early so they happily accomodated our plea to hold our bags until check-in. They recommended we experience breakfast across the street at Cafe Heidelberg and check out some nearby shops. So with ravenous tummies, we grabbed our backpack and eagerly did just that.

hen you’ve spent your entire day consumed by beauty, there’s nothing better than resting your weary feet and placing yourself in front of a mouth-watering, culinary cabaret.
Not only was this gem located inside the hotel, but K’ya Bistro offered the perfect soft surroundings for a romantic evening. One savory dish after another, we began to realize that not only do those behind the curtain composing the food bring guests back, but also those whom do the serving. The host or hostess, the waitstaff, the manager...they all play a part in this palate-pleasing play.

OUR ROOM
a Casa del Camino does not fall short on class and distinction. They’re designer rooms are as almost as unique as their treasured guests.
Travelers can select whether they’re in the mood for a Spanish-inspired stay, a surfstyled suite or an oceanfront cottage. We carefully selected a glam-filled getaway embellished with vintageinspired built-ins, a sparkling silver floor topped off with metallic gold-shimmering chandeliers. This room was the perfect setting for a couple who needed to feel like royalty. The most memorable part of our stay at La Casa del Camino was the feeling of being wrapped in the arms of tranquility. The combination of the plush white pillows and the proximity to the ocean waves ensured a calm and restful night. L *Space Room Designed by Charm Logan and Monica Wise

xcercising on vacation may come easier for some, but when you’re a few steps from the beach, there are no excuses.
We swear the intention was there! But as we strolled along the coast, we couldn’t help but notice the vibrant gallery displayed before us. From the colorrich, hand painted murals to the mosaic tile accents on homes, our own creative juices started flowing so we felt compelled to leave our mark in the sand. We took notice (and admired) the constant reminders posted along the beach informing bystanders to refrain from touching, taking, moving, or tampering with any animal life (including shells and rocks) along the shore.

fter a busy morning playing paparazzi on the beach, we headed up to the top level of La Casa del Camino and settled in at our reserved pub table at one of the hippest and hottest spots on the beach: The Rooftop Lounge. This perfectly placed hubfor-the-hungry-and-parched engaged all five senses. You think the view of the ocean is breathtaking from ground level, you should see it from the third. The panoramic views from The Rooftop Lounge will transcend your mind to the present moment. They were happy to accommodate our 2 (virgin) Ginger Mojitos as we shared the flavorful nutrient-filled Kale Salad topped with with farro, pepitas, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, avocado and lime-caper vinaigrette.
The Rooftop is available on a first come, first serve basis. While we don’t currently accept reservations, guests are able to purchase tables of 4 people for a non-refundable, non-applicable fee to F&B purchases of $150. A credit card to secure the reservation is required 48 hours in advance.

When we finally came up for air and pulled our faces out of our Chocolate Tart and Cheesecake, we noticed how quickly the rooftop was becoming a standing room only. INTIMATE INVESTMENTS
INTIMATE INVESTMENTS businesswoman to super mom by Emily Moore What happens when an entrepreneur turns momprenuer? At one point, I was an independent gogetter who would crush my goals and dreams and then...I became a Mom. Becoming a mother is one of the highest titles of honor I have ever held, but a massive energetic shift of which I was not aware and definitely not prepared. Assumptions are not always right, but still I assumed newborns slept most of the day. I hoped that would provide me with ample time to be a rock star mommy, wife, and business owner. Oh no! My little bundle of joy was colicky and had vocal cords that could give any loudspeaker a run for its money. If you ever see me with a hearing aid, you will know the reason. I quickly realized my assumptions were wrong, and both my business and my new beautiful soul’s livelihood depended on me finding a new path to success. I thought that growing a successful business took a lot of energy, then I had my baby. My most important job became giving her the best life possible. The fear of failing in business is scary, but the option of failing at being a successful mom creates an entirely new level of fear. My mind was running a thousand miles per hour, wondering how I could make it all work? How could I give 100% to everything, my marriage, baby, company, house projects, and our dogs, time for family, friends and time for me? Sometimes I feel beyond exhausted. Other times, I feel like my tank is on empty and everything I once knew about managing my life was completely different. These are the big questions: Who am I as a mom? Who am I as a businesswoman? How will I find the time? Or the energy? Fast forward a month, my to-do lists were starting to pile up versus dwindling. My house was not in the OCD order that it was prior to motherhood. I found myself feeling extreme guilt when I even thought 94 VENTRE

about taking a moment for myself to recharge. I did not even recognize the woman staring back at me in the mirror. The feeling of everyone and everything needing my attention was overwhelming. I was haunted by the realization that I was on the brink of having a breakdown. I have always been the person known to find a silver lining in everything life presents. However, this was incredibly foreign to me and took time to fully surrender to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Although they may not talk about it, I’m sure most new parents can relate. This new identity crisis, that comes with heavy increases in hormonal imbalances, moves through your body like a Tasmanian Devil wreaking havoc on your supply of positive thoughts. Without a doubt, you are massively in love with your newborn, but life as you once knew it is forever changed. This may feel like a massive disruption in productivity, and to tell you the truth, it is! Everyone knows that I love my little peanut more than words can express. I wouldn’t change having her for anything in the world, but I wish I would have known of the challenges ahead so that I was better prepared. That said, I think it’s important to speak up and say something to the new super moms and dads of the world. Your drive, your perseverance, your determination and patience will pay off in the end. Here is what I have learned so far that might be of use to those that are just beginning this journey or maybe only thinking about it. The sooner I realized that I could not operate at super human speeds, I was better off. I still make my to-do lists, but I had to change my methodology. First I take care of my baby, then work. Once work is complete, I move to house projects and then go to the gym. Luckily my husband is a partner in our business so he has been taking on some of my duties to make sure everything is getting handled.
To keep our love life alive, we watch movies late at night while the baby is sleeping. For more intimate times, it’s a complete gamble on when she decides she’s ready to wake up. When we do find time, it’s kind of like hitting a mini lotto! Once she transitions to bottles, we have babysitters lined up. Then we can have some date nights and a better chance to have these encounters. We look forward to adding a little spontaneity back into our lives. It’s a process, much like that of starting a business. It gets easier when you can figure out how to anticipate the unexpected. If you thought you were good at time management before, wait until your entire day is broken down in two-hour increments. Between feeding and naps is when my spidey-senses kick in and I find a way to accomplish the impossible, to pass the impassable, to tackle the unthinkable and to be a super mom!
“The
fear of failing in business is scary, but the option of failing at being a successful mom creates an entireley new level of fear.”
After giving this a lot of thought, I had another game changing epiphany. Every parent is already an entrepreneur by nature. There are many similarities and skills that you already possess, such as problem-solving, creativity, time management, adapting to change, passion, research, flexibility, financial investment, multi-tasking, organizational skills, and the creation and nurturing that it takes to win. After this epiphany, I actually got excited, knowing I had a huge advantage in already being very successful in these areas. Life has forever changed and I now know I will continue to have success by adjusting my sails along the way. I am planning to use all of the skills I learned in business to help in raising my little peanut and continually raising the bar with our business.

Teresa listened to our initially vague expectations and clarified our vision from picking out paint schematics, to shopping with us for accent pieces and furniture, to arranging and hanging everything. Our house is now a home, with the living room transformed into a cozy yet chic space, touched with antique and vintage pieces throughout. Our bedroom is a space, truly custom-made for just us. Each night stand, lamp, accent chair and decorative item was hand selected using Teresa’s intelligible understanding of our ambiguous vision. It is now the bedroom that we had always knew we wanted, without knowing how to actualize ourselves. It is romantic, soft, inviting and special. HEMP
it does a body good
Did you know that hemp has more than 50,000 uses? If you can think it, you can possibly use hemp to make it. You can make fabrics, fuel, beauty products, paint, cement, insulation, paper, clothing, diapers, ink and lotion, to name a few. It’s very powerful. Chernobyl used it to clean up a disaster site. Hemp can actually pull radiation out of the ground and clean soil and water, a process known as phytoremediation. That’s good to know, but lets talk about putting this healthy food into your body, shall we? 106 VENTRE

Entrepreneurial Lifestyle Magazine
First things first: Allow me to clear the room so you don’t think I’m telling you to ask for illegal drugs at Safeway. Hemp seeds, hemp seed oil, hemp milk, hemp bread, beauty products or any other items that you can purchase at a grocery store do NOT contain marijuana. It simply contains hemp. Marijuana has THC, which gets you high. Hemp only has about 4 parts per million and will not get you high. It’s legal everywhere! So, if you’re looking to reenact a Snoop video, look elsewhere.
Hemp oil is even superior to flax oil. It relaxes muscles, lends relief to PMS, helps regulate hormone levels, decreases arthritic conditions and lowers blood pressure. It also increases skin elasticity; so rub it all over your body and face for some antiaging benefits. Ingesting hemp oil coats your cell membranes in protective, anti-oxidative, anti-viral and anti-fungal fats. It’s like a protective helmet, but everywhere, 37 trillion places to be exact. Take one tablespoon in morning and one at night. Sprouts grocery stores usually has it.
“In just 3 tablespoons of hemp seed, you’ll get 10 whole grams of protein.”
Halfway to 2018, hopefully by now you’re preparing your body and brain for the day with a greendrink and not bogging it down with sugar, flour and exorbitant amounts of coffee. Oh wonderful! Do you have a favorite super food? If you do, it’s about to drop a spot. In just 3 tablespoons of hemp seed and you’ll get 10 whole grams of protein. This isn’t filler protein like 90% of the products occupying store shelves. This is a complete protein with all essential amino acids, and a perfect ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 essential fatty acids. It also provides 50% of your daily magnesium and phosphorus with a double high five of brain-boosting heartstrengthening vitamins. It contains antioxidants, calcium, carotene copper, chlorophyll, iron, phospholipids, sulfur zinc B1, B2, B6, D, E, zinc, fiber and much more. The combination of healthy fats, protein, fiber and vitamins will jump start your metabolism, triggering fat loss. Yay! It also cleans your colon. Additionally, they lower bad cholesterol, LDL and boost the good, HDL. The number one killer in the US is heart disease. You already know what I’m about to say. On top of Schwarzeneggering that blood pumper, the seeds strengthen bones, repair leaky gut, boost immune function and improve digestion.
Hemp milk is possibly the healthiest milk on the market. It’s dairy free, soy free, gluten free and usually sugar free. It’s very nutrient dense, which you are probably aware of by now. Hemp bread is around six grams of protein per slice and it is delicious. It’s much healthier than most of its competitors. The following are recommendations from a guy with a resting heart rate of 40. One tablespoon of oil first thing upon rising, followed by 16 ounces of room temperature water with small lemon fully squeezed, then one serving of seeds in your morning shake. Continue this for two weeks and summer will start shaping up quite nicely. Every month it seems amazing new hemp products are born. You only have to look for them!

JUST BEAN YOURSELF
JUST BEAN YOURSELF Like every story worth telling, it started as a romance. It was 2002 when Don Niemyer walked into a coffee shop in Deep Ellum - the arts district of Dallas, Texas - and ordered a 12 once vanilla latte’. It was Halloween night, and the barista was a cute, saucy little thing named Carissa dressed up as a hippie. They didn’t know it that night, but it was the beginning of a love story that included coffee from the first second, and has had coffee as a central character ever since. It was the pursuit of great coffee (OK, an amazing place to live was part of it too) that drove them to Portland, OR, where they dove deep into coffee-land, owning three shops and humbly learning everything they could along the way from some of the best minds in coffee. It was a great journey, and one where they got to know some amazing people, including Brandon and Kelly Noffsinger, whose own love story had started a decade earlier with drinking white mochas and dreaming of opening a coffee shop someday...

of these hard working producers and baristas, while keeping their values of simplicity and minimalism. It was quite a struggle to imagine how to pull that off. But here again, it was just like most stories. It was the struggle that produced the most fruit. And it was in this struggle where an idea was born.
WE’LL PUT OUR NEW OPERATION IN A TINY HOUSE You see, it is the Tiny House people who have gotten really good at living simply with elegance. Tiny Houses use traditional construction methods with solid materials of the highest quality, often sustainably sourced, that will last for decades. The structures themselves are fascinating and elegant, only really tiny! And because of their time spent living tiny, this was something the team was really good at. So it was decided: They would build what was to become - as far as they knew - the world’s first Tiny House Coffee Shop. And what would they call this unique operation that was born out of their fascination for these exquisite coffees and fascinating people they had discovered? Well, what else could they call something that was born to tell those stories? They would call it Story Coffee Company. And that is where the first chapter of our story for today comes to an end. But keep following along, because as our story unfolds you will see how it includes not only our story; not only the stories of the coffees and producers and cafe’s we represent. It also includes your story. Because we all live on this globe together, and all our stories are gloriously intertwined.
Every one of us has a story to tell. Thanks for being a part of ours. And thanks for letting us be a part of yours.

UNLIFE is an invite-only gathering of the nations top businessmen, influencers, misfits and entrepreneurs, all trying to kick a little dent into history. Come join 30 hand selected ruckusmakers for a weekend designed to amplify, disrupt, inspire, and build community. This is an intimate group event - You will speak up and be heard, you will be surrounded by people eager to learn and to share what they’ve learned in a completely unfiltered and raw setting. We’ll start Friday night and end Sunday around noon. This 3 day leadership retreat is intentionally designed for aggressive personalities with a desire to build intentional community, disrupt the status quo, and have real life changing impact through their work. UNLIFE was started because In 2013, for the Summer marketing campaign for RUCKUS, we thew a series of 3 Pool Parties in conjunction with RedBull. They were amazing. Thousands of people came, there was free food, drinks, national headlining acts for music, but at the end of the third party, we were driving away and had one of the most honest conversations as a brand we have ever had... We simply said “FOR WHAT?!” Don’t get us wrong, they were great parties, and we the brand got a ton of “impressions” (whatever that means), but at the end of it all, we were left feeling extremely

empty, and honestly, kind of worthless. We had raised a ton of money and thrown some huge parties. That was it. We weren’t helping anyone, we weren’t building DEEP or MEANINGFUL relationships or community. We were simply arranging convenient and shallow entertainment, nothing more. We knew that as a brand, as a company, and as responsible business owners and leaders, we had to develop something more. We had to develop something that actually meant something. At the core of what RUCKUS is, we want to only be about 2 things: 1) Bringing hope and confidence into a broken world. 2) Building Community. So - we switched our Summer marketing campaign the following year on its head (honestly, that’s probably giving ourselves too much credit, it was more of an experiment than anything). We set out to grow DEEP within our community and clientele, not WIDE. We thought; What would happen - if instead of growing shallow with 3 thousand people, we brought together some of the best leaders, trendsetters, and ruckusmakers we know and grow DEEP with only 30 people. A Manhattan Project of the new age. And with that, the Ruckus UNLIFE Retreat was born.
“If you are young, hungry, and want to be inspired by some of the best disrupters across all mountains of thought, this is the retreat for you” — Daniel Epstein UNreasonable Group

“I tried several of these products and value each one equally. If I had to choose one, it would the Coconut Shampoo & Conditioner. Between the bleaching, drying, ironing and product, my hair goes through mayhem on a daily basis. My hair requires products like this in order to maintain its unique look. After just a few days, I could feel and see the difference in its manageability. Well done Skinerals, my hair thanks you. Skinerals Crystal Coconut Shampoo & Conditioner $24.99 each

School Backpacks!
YOU MATTER
The story begins with you. Buy a Vessel bag and look for the unique ID number inside. Your bag’s ID corresponds to the number of backpacks that have been given to help children around the globe gain access to an education and a better future. It’s our little bits of good added together that overwhelm the world. For that, we thank you.
WHY SCHOOL BACKPACKS
Around the world, millions of children are unable to attend school simply because their families are too poor to provide the basic school supplies they need. In an effort to help every child get an education, Vessel works closely with several incredible organizations who are helping deliver backpacks to children in need. Together, we can make a difference.
OUR IMPACT
Vessel is reliant upon charitable contributions to carry out our mission to make a difference in the world. To contribute to positive change and address social and economical challenges in the world, we partner with local and global organizations in the areas of education, health, and justice. We are grateful to the following organizations and foundations for their support toward creating a better world.
