reek philosopher Plato said, “Necessity is the mother of invention.” Perhaps that’s the only short explanation we can offer when asked why we do what we do. Teresa and I have been married for more than 10 years now. Shortly after marrying, we entered into the world of entrepreneurship.
While we had some success, it was hardly the success we needed it to be. The site crashed in 2012 and it was back to the drawing board. In retrospect, it’s probably the best thing that could’ve happened. The incident put us on the road to creating something better. In 2013, we talked and considered ways we could have done things better. A few months later, we began to explore ideas that put us on the right track. Our new focus became, “what do entrepreneurs need and how can we get it to them in a cost effective manner? By January 2014, we were ready to launch the first version of The Link.
Our years as entrepreneurs have been frocked with many experiences. We’ve experienced hardship, the pain of building and rebuilding, working and reworking, failure and success. We’ve had the privilege of meeting Since that time, we’ve been many other entrepreneurs along working towards perfecting the way. We were not shocked certain concepts and adding to learn that many of them had or removing other programs the same or similar experiences as needed. With every new as we did. It is commonly known that nine out of ten businesses development, we consider fail within the first two years. The time, money, effectiveness biggest question on our minds was, and ease of use, which “How can we change that?” How is very important to the can we decrease that number to eight out of ten or seven out of ten? entrepreneurs we seek to serve.
offer this support through the programs and systems we create. VENTRE magazine is the latest addition to The Link. VENTRE is a combination of the words Venture and Entrepreneur. The initial idea came to us in 2009, although it would be 2010 before we launched the first version. We initially went by the name Top Boutique Shop, which was created to aid fashion boutiques in getting more customers. We started there because having owned a boutique, it was the industry we knew most. It was quite the learning experience.

REASONS TO MAKE SURE YOUR KIDS ARE MONEY $AVVY
Kristen Judd, Owner/CEO of Money Secrets
We love our kids. We would do anything for our kids. We want to make sure they have access to things we did not have access to. We want them to have opportunities that we did not have when growing up. We all want the same thing. There is a trend happening here. Schools are starting to recognize that we as a society are lacking in money education. We are seeing more and more money education being offered in schools and even being mandatory in order to graduate. The hard part is knowing whether the information is going to be good and give them the skills to succeed. Is it going to inspire your child to do what you have not been able to do?

FUN, COLORFUL CUSTOMIZABLE PLANNERS & ACCESSORIES I was on a quest for a functional yet cute planner, but everything I came across was boring and plain. So I decided to design and build my own. I made the rounds to several local stores and got my supplies. I designed my planner pages and went to FedEx-Kinko’s to print everything. When I finally tallied my expenses, it was over $200! Holy Cow! That’s an expensive planner! That’s when the light bulb went on. I could provide a one-stop-shop for cute, trendy planner accessories and designs at a more affordable cost. We strive to find high quality products at an affordable cost so that we can pass the savings on to you! NAKED HEALTHY HOW CLEAN
EATING & HAPPINESS FLOW TOGETHER with Adam Gates
Everyone wants to be happy. It’s the ultimate goal. But many of us spend our lives chasing happiness in the form of materialism or substance and are too busy working to spend time to look inwards for happiness. I learned a couple very important lessons during my two-year spiritual journey in Boulder, Colorado.
Signalling, well...... stress. In turn, shortening the life of the cell. Stress prematurely ages us and can cause heart attacks and stroke. When we are happy we have improved brain function, your immune system works better, cells are happier, life just overall flows better. Negativity is like a virus. If you let someone cutting you off ruin your mood, how do you expect to not let other little things slowly get you riled up and think the world is against you. It’s YOUR happiness. cont... Why let a stranger or someone else in a bad mood take that from you? The more you work at this the more it becomes part of your programmed subconscious (which rules about 95% of your day). My absolute never going back trick to fuel all this happy I’m going to pump out......? Clean diet, lifestyle..whatever term you prefer. I eat like a healthy person. I tried doing it the other way. Doesn’t even come close. We live in a beautiful day where the science is already in. We now know without doubt, what foods exactly do to us. Refined and processed foods (sweets, flour, dairy, coffee creamers, desserts, fast food, soda, diet soda) will disrupt gut bacteria. You have 100 trillion of them in your fancy digestive system. What you eat 100% directly controls WHAT type of gut bacteria you will grow. Important for this reason. Micro organisms in our gut secrete a profound number of chemicals, and among those chemicals are the same substances used by our neurons to communicate and regulate mood like dopamine and serotonin. Lots of fruits and veggies, and clean diet

High sugar, a little too much coffee, refined flour, junk food, too much alcohol...... very unhappy gut bacteria. Once you are in the cycle it’s hard to tell which way is up. When I was eating unhealthy and was struggling with my drinking problem, I found that I was always chasing and couldn’t be happy unless i just had.............whatever.
At this point it’s a chicken and egg situation for me. I don’t know if my perception changed first or my diet did. But I have had enough personal tests by now to know, that if I eat super crappy for more than one meal every few days, my mood and energy is in the toilet. Flour and sugar tastes wonderful for 6 minutes then the stomach and headache start. Once you clean your junk from your system everything internally will flow better. Your thoughts will be clearer. You will be, dare I say. Happier. On the

irst we made plans for dinner at the The Princeton Club located in the Lodge. After enjoying a pleasant and affordable meal, we set out for the hot springs. There were 3 different pools ranging from hot to mildly so. As we lay watching the stars in the crystal clear skies, all of the stress and troubles of life and work seemed to melt away. After a couple hours, we left the pool to get changed in the locker rooms. The Spa was a thing of beauty and the locker rooms were among the nicest I’ve seen. We showered, dressed and were ready to head back to our cabin. We were so relaxed that lying down in the bed was not far behind our arrival. We rested the night away in our comfortable beds. Our cabin could have easily slept up to 10 people, but we were content and happy to spend the night to ourselves. We awakened the next morning feeling refreshed and ready to enjoy the day. The greatest experience for me personally, was lying back with my head in the cool part of the river while the rest of my body lay submerged in the hotter section. As I gazed into the days clear skies, I remember feeling as though I was one with nature and that I didn’t have a care in the world. It was such a unique and pleasing experience that I can hardly wait to visit again. VENTREMAGAZINE.COM

arriage HOW WE MAKE IT WORK
People are often curious as to how we’ve gotten through tough times together and believe me; we’ve certainly had our share. We clearly have very different personalities. Teresa is extremely creative and outgoing. I’m very analytical and slightly introverted. If you saw the television show, Darma & Greg, you’d have a pretty good representative sample of the difference in our personalities. How do we balance our marriage and business partnership? You’ll find the answer in the following six points....

1.
We don’t always agree. The key in this situation is effective communication. Careful not to bulldoze each other, we listen to each other’s point of view. Making decisions can tend to get emotional. Don’t make the discussion about whose right or wrong. Stay focused on the best strategic outcome. Approach it with an open mind. You both want the same thing and that is to make your business successful.

2.
The best marriage advice I was ever given was from my older brother who said, “let the problem be the problem.” If something goes wrong, focus on the problem rather than making each other the problem. For example: If I miss a critical deadline, rather than my wife getting pissed, she could simply ask, “How can this be prevented in the future?” In this way, the focus is now on resolving the problem together, rather than wasting energy making the other feel inadequate. Mistakes will happen. How we respond to them makes the difference.

3.
How we compliment each other is a reflection of how we complement each other. My wife and I have different responsibilities, but we ultimately work together. We are always mindful to compliment each other on a job well done. Recognizing each other’s work not only makes the other feel good, it also sends a message that says, “I appreciate and admire what you do.” Edification and support is a good way to keep the wheels of your business rolling. 4. Give each other space. We are a couple, but we are also individuals. We enjoy doing things together, but also enjoy doing things on our own. Teresa’s idea of relaxing for the day might be shopping. Whereas my idea of relaxing is sitting by a river or lake. We can each do our individual thing for hours. I don’t enjoy shopping for long periods of time. She doesn’t enjoy sitting by a river for long periods of time. Therefore, we often do those things individually. We are both happier because neither feels rushed. When we come together again, we are refreshed, rejuvenated and better for each other.

5. It’s amazing what a few seconds of uninterrupted eye contact can do for a marriage. It brings about connection and allows you to see into your partner’s very soul. It tends to take you back to a time when winning his or her heart was all that mattered. It is one of the greater forms of intimacy, if not the greatest. Life in business gets hectic and you’ll sometimes forget. Consciously and purposely making time for eye contact will make a difference both in and out of the bedroom.

Never stop having fun. Entrepreneurship can be mentally draining at times. It helps to stop and do something different for a bit. It’s ok to get away for a good time. You’re a focused person and you’ll get the work done. Sometimes it can seem like the end of the world if the work isn’t done immediately; however, you may find that you’re more effective at your work once you’ve been away from it for a while. Get out and have some fun. It will be good for your business and your marriage.
6.
What works for one couple may not work for the next. What we’ve shared with you is what works for us. Keep it if you find it helpful or tweak it if you find it othwerwise. We wish you great success in business, marriage and in life. VENTREMAGAZINE.COM

CUISINE: French Brasserie HOURS: 5:00 pm to 10:30 pm LOCATION: Promenade Level near Zarkana Theater
- BEVERAGE PROGRAM -
A tip of its hat to the eclectic bars throughout the Parisian districts, the cocktail program offers twists on classics such as the Sidecar from Harry’s Bar and the Serendipity from Bar Hemingway. The selection of spirits will be concise but well curated. With a focus on Cognacs and Armagnac’s as well as the largest vintage Chartreuse list in Las Vegas, the spirits connoisseur will be pleasantly surprised. From independent bottling of defunct scotch distilleries to highly allocated bourbons, Bardot’s selection will define refinement and maturity. Just as much care and attention is taken in crafting the beer selections including “Hors D’Age” a proprietary offering for Bardot from Stillwater Artisanal Ales brewed at Brasserie Thiriez near the Belgium border in France. The wine program will feature a selection of smaller, lesser—known regions in France with verticals of great producers such as Mas de Daumas Gassac. In addition, an array of French wines from the more familiar regions of Burgundy, Bordeaux, the Rhône, Alsace and the Loire will be available alongside selections from the New World made in styles reminiscent of their old world brethren.
- DESIGN -
Designed by Bishop Pass, BARDOT is drenched in allure and anticipation where low lighting and dramatic shadows set the stage for an unforgettable brasserie experience. From the outside, a quaint French storefront reveals a well-appointed, zinc-topped bar, which stars as the centerpiece of the room. Luxurious booths and banquettes, upholstered in rich burgundy leather, offer front row seats to a culinary show behind the glassenclosed kitchen of Michael Mina’s lavish interpretation of a Parisian brasserie.
- MUSIC -
An ode to the 1920’s Jazz Age, The Playlist Generation has created a sonic identity inspired by Hemingway’s Paris and the Café lifestyle he and his “Lost Generation” compatriots immersed themselves in. Classic chanson, gypsy jazz and mussete of the time is paired with the contemporary artists and genres they inspired to perfectly match the energy of this lively brasserie.
“Every detail of BARDOT delivers an authentic experience that makes guests feel as though they are enjoying a fivestar feast on the Champs-Élysées,” said Mina. “I am excited to introduce BARDOT to Las Vegas and for it to be a part of one of the most thriving culinary scenes in the world.”

STAUER Corsican Tourbillon Regularly $2,295 Use D5SAVE $999
While Napoleon was conquering Europe, the world’s finest watchmaker was conquering gravity. Abraham-Louis had made a clock for Napoleon but his new invention would become the most prized timepiece for the next 207 years — the Tourbillon. As Napoleon was being crowned King of Italy, Abraham Louis was receiving his patent for a movement so complex that it would counter the effects of gravity. Today only a handful of fine watch craftsmen can build a tourbillon. Stauer not only has mastered the rotating cage and the hand-crafted escapement but we do it at a price that literally sets back the clock to Napoleon’s time. The Stauer Corsican is offered at our exclusive price. None of the so called luxury brands price their tourbillons at under $20,000, but they still believe in the outdated notion that luxury hand craftsmanship needs to be exorbitantly overpriced. We believe that the Corsican will become the most successful of the rare Tourbillions in history. Each tourbillion takes more than 6 months to engineer and this will be a strict limited edition of 1805 — the year that the tourbillon was introduced. This timepiece is for those who truly appreciate history, scientific innovation, rarity, and value. I think that I just described the Stauer client.

Congratulations on getting started. It indeed takes a lot of guts to start a new venture. Most people are so overcome by fear that they never make it off the front porch. You’ve done that, so I’m giving you a proverbial pat on the back. Getting started takes a lot of moxie, but staying with it will often require resilience.
“Do what you love and the money will come.” “Build it and they will come.” Those are just a couple clichés you hear about starting your own business. You put together your plan, you get your business loan and you get started. You’re excited to be on the path of doing what you love; however, you eventually realize that you were only given part of the equation. Doing what you love is a great concept, but to make money and eventually a profit, others will also have to love or at least like what you do. Otherwise, they won’t spend money with you.
competition. Keep looking! You’ll eventually find the right one. Caution: As with any counsel, “eat the fish and spit out the bones.” If the information doesn’t resonate with you or your goals, you don’t have to accept it. After all, it’s your business.

WHAT WE STAND FOR
Nashelle is dedicated to extending a helping hand to those in need, in our own little community and beyond. It is our intention that with every piece of jewelry we sell, we are able to give back to those in need… whether it be in helping to feed or clothe a child, aid a family with unforeseen medical expenses, or supporting our local schools. It is Nashelle’s belief that if we start locally, it can extend globally. By ‘paying it forward’ we hope to encourage others to give what they can to their own communities, and continue a spirit that is generous in love in the global community that we all share. We are inspired by each true life experience. Knowing we are all working hard in big and also simple ways to make our world a better place…That is what is so very important.

HISTORY OF NASHELLE
Growing up I thought I was going to be a shoe designer or dress maker. I envied all of my friends that could make jewelry; for me, it did not come naturally. After studying metal arts at the University of Alaska Southeast, it opened up a whole new world of design, and from that I became inspired by the simplicity of metal and stone combined. When I work, it is almost as if the designs come naturally to their own completion. I pay a lot of attention to the changing of the seasons and draw on nature for inspiration, but I also pay a lot of attention to the many facets of women and how we change our look depending on our mood. I started Nashelle jewelry about 15 years ago. Many of my friends remember me sitting on my living room floor day after day creating, and literally selling jewelry off my own neck. In the year 2005, shortly after I gave birth to my first son, I decided to take my little business to a national level and began selling wholesale. In 2006, I took a leap of faith and leased a large warehouse in the beautiful town of Bend, Oregon to facilitate our growth. We are now a team of 20 amazingly talented designers, jewelry makers, and office bees. Each person brings a different element to the company and to the Nashelle line. The response continues to be tremendous and I am SO grateful that I have been able to turn my passion into my lifelong career. None of our designs are mass produced or outsourced and we have no intention of that ever happening. Every piece truly is made to order with love and intention.
