01 Site Situation

Location

The airport covers an area of 182 hectares (450 acres). The airport was built in 1936 during Japanese rule with its origins as a Japanese military airbase. Nowadays,Songshan Airport is seen to have the potential to attract business travelers within Pacific Asia due to its location in downtown Taipei.

Birds and parks

Circulation

The high degree of nestedness in bird assemblages demonstrated that the parks may be a network of habitats among which birds immigrate and emigrate frequently.

Several city buses also serve this airport, providing frequent links to the Tamsui Line and Wenshan Line of the Taipei Metro.

Outside the wall TASK

One of the biggest problem in Taipei : the flight paths of birds are not friendly, and the connection between the riverside park and the city center is neglected. In the future, maybe this place will become "Taipei Llung" . The site falls on the "technological green axis" of Tamsui River strategy. Through the temporality of the landscape, the residents of Taipei City on the south side of the base have a good opportunity to go to the Riverside Park for activities.

REFLECTION Torrential rain outside the wall

The main design concept is under the condition of maintaining the airport runway, interspersed with bird ecology and humanistic space, weaves a new terrain texture. To sum up, my design strategies is to separate the floodwall from the viaduct, so that the flood control wall can be changed into various program functions, for example: the height of the floodwall remains the same, the viaduct is a stage, and the stairs can also be an auditorium . The curved wall will be a new boundary, or a free park, where people who play extreme sports can have fun, and there will be rest spaces around for people to stay.
