The McKenna Jordan Salon Bar is a luxury Aveda concept salon that caters to those looking for a place to relax and enjoy some quiet time while receiving quality salon services. Owners Josette Simpson and Tanya TymusBellamy were inspired to bring this luxury salon to life right here in Bowie.

“It is a bar concept salon which means there are multiple bars within the salon including a [hair] styling bar, chemical bar for services such as coloring, makeup bar, and a wine bar. We have a liquor license so we are able to offer beer, wine, and champagne to our clients,” Josette says.

McKenna Jordan is a bar concept salon which means there are multiple bars for clients to choose from and use during their appointments. The Hair Bar allows clients to get their hair cut, styled, and blown out. The Color Bar allows for color services and other treatments. The Makeup Bar offers all makeup services. The Wig & Extension Bar is open for clients to purchase products and have them expertly cut, styled, and applied while in the salon. While enjoying luxury services and relaxation, clients may also enjoy a glass of beer, wine, or champagne at The Wine

Bar. The grand opening of the McKenna Jordan Salon Bar will be on July 8. Clients are able to make appointments via the website in order to secure their reservation.

“We want our clients to embrace the experience. We will bring you a glass of sparkling wine while you have your service. There is a luxury waiting area once you check in or you can sit by The Wine Bar while you wait to be shampooed. For so many women there are so many responsibilities to manage such as working or being a mother or taking care of family members, there is no time to unwind. This is your own private time to relax and receive the best experience possible,” Josette tells us.

Tanya and Josette realized that they were both inspired by their daughters and the namesakes of the salon, McKenna and Jordan. They knew that they wanted to open a high-end, luxury, salon with only the most expertly trained stylists and staff. According to their website, “Tanya Tymus-Bellamy began styling hair in 1989, and quickly became one of Washington D.C.’s most prominent hair stylists. She owned Clippers Hair Salon, best known for weaves and innovative styles, until she moved to Atlanta, GA in 1994. There, she opened another

upscale salon, which was the flagship black owned hair salon in the city. It was at this salon where Tanya and coowner, Josette Simpson, met. Josette was Tanya’s longterm client, and during countless styling sessions, the two discussed their dreams and passion for all-things beauty. Josette always admired Tanya for creating an experience for customers to enjoy when they received their hair service.”

“After fourteen years of patronizing Tanya’s Atlanta salon, Josette moved to the Washington D.C. area. The experience had been so great at the Atlanta salon that it was difficult to find comparable customer service, ambiance, or technical skill in the greater Washington D.C. area. As the two were catching up one day, they thought about launching a salon in the Washington D.C. area, incorporating Tanya’s proven standards of excellent customer service, incomparable ambiance, and cuttingedge technique.” Tanya is well-known for her work and has provided services for celebrities and the local elite

in Atlanta. Tanya will be taking clients in the salon while Josette will be ensuring that each client has the experience of a lifetime with all of their needs being met.

There are 12 stations and four private suites. Josette says, “The private suites will be rented out to contractors. We are going to reserve one suite to offer services done in privacy for wigs and other treatments. We also hope to offer esthetic services in the future. Our experienced stylists are trained, knowledgeable and educated in the Aveda Concept and Aveda haircare products. Clients will also be able to purchase Aveda products, wigs, and extensions directly from the salon.” McKenna Jordan Salon Bar will also be available for bridal parties as well as renting out the space for private events including fashion shows, book signings, and more.
