I shouldn’t be like this, but i can’t lie, I’m not better than the most part of the asshole I hate. Especially in my case, looking like an idiot, with fucked-up clothes and DIY “haircut”, I shouldn’t judge people too fast, just because of the way they look. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is, the first time I saw Manu, in Weyerli, wearing huge pants, shirt-less, doing the smoothest nollie crooked grind ever, I was like, ok, here we go, another g-playboy, he’s probably arrogant, skates the same curb all day and thinks that looking pissed off when he lands perfectly a trick, is a cool thing to do... Hopefully I was wrong. He’s actually one of the coolest skateboarder I met in Bern. Killing every spots on his way, always with a huge smile on his face. You can immediately feel that he loves skateboarding a lot; so much that he manages to share his passion with you. Every session with Manu is a cool session. Welcome to the versus-army man!
Ich sollte nicht so sein aber ich kann nicht lügen, ich bin nicht besser als die meisten arschlöcher welche ich hasse. Vorallem in meinem fall, sehe aus wie ein idiot beschissene kleider und diy haarschnitt. Ich sollte leute nicht zu schnell verurteilen, nach ihrem aussehen. Egal, was ich versuche zu sagen ist, das erste mal als ich manu im weyerli, mit weiten hosen und oben ohne die chilligsten nollie crookeds machen sah, dachte ich, ok schonwieder ein typischer g-playboy. Er ist warscheinlich arrogant, skatet den ganzen tag das selbe qurb und findet es cool wenn er angeschissen drein schaut wenn er einen trick perfekt ausfährt. Zum glück lag ich falsch. Er ist eigentlich einer der coolsten skateboarder den ich in bern traf. Er killt jeden spot auf seine weise, immer mit einem riesigen smile in seinem gesicht. Man kann sofort fühlen das er skateboarding sehr liebt. So sehr das er es schafft seine passion mit dir zu teilen. Jede session mit manu ist eine coole session. Willkommen zu der versus-armee man!

Hello Versus readers, my name is Manuel Schürch and im 23 years old. I live in Neuenegg a bit outside from Bern with my mom and brother; he is in Thailand at the moment (my father moved there when I was about 18). I started an apprentiship as a printer (which sucks a lot) I quit after 1.5 years (from 4 years) too long! I wanted to enjoy the biggest gift (the life). I started skating at the age of 14-15... Coz we had a new guy in the class. Of course he was a full blood skater he brought a lot of influence to our class (anyhow I thought that way) about 5-7 of my friends from school begun to skate (me included). It was a new way to express ourself a way to find freedom and forget all problems. I had just skating in my head. I didnt saw a lot of happyness in homework and stuff. So I skated as often as I could. I made some additional schools, and 1 year in art school (vorkurs) i love drawing and painting. With about 19-20 I had big problems with my back (diskus hernie) one time I couldnt skate for 2 month that was soooo long for me! After that injury I still skated but I was always a bit worried about my back. Anyway now its all good i make some exercises for stability and posture.
Hallo versus-leser, ich heisse Manuel Schürch und bin 23 jahre alt. Ich lebe in neuenegg ein bisschen ausserhalb von Bern, mit meiner mutter und bruder, welcher momentan gerade in Thailand ist (mein vater ist dort hingezogen, als ich c.a 18 war). Ich habe eine lehre als drucktechnologe begonnen (anschiss), welche ich nach 1.5 Jahren abgebrochen habe. Mir schienen 4 jahre doch ein bisschen zu lange für so einen trostlosen beruf. Das grösste geschenk (das leben) war und ist mir definitiv wichtiger. (Vorallem spass zu haben und es zu geniessen). Ich fing mit 14-15 an zu skaten, weil in unser klasse war ein neuer schüler, welcher ein herzblut skater war. Ich fand er brachte viel einfluss in unsere lahme klasse. Jedenfalls begannen c.a 5-7 aus meiner klassa an, zu skaten (mich eingeschlossen). Es war ein neuer weg sich auszudrücken, und seine probleme zu vergessen. Ich hatte nur skaten im kopf. Ich sah nicht viel sinn und spass in hausaufgaben und lernen. Also skatete ich so oft wie möglich. Nach der normalen schule absolvierte ich ein paar zusätzliche schulen unteranderem den vorkurs. Ich liebe malen und zeichnen. Mit ungefähr 19-20 hatte ich üble probleme mit meinem rücken. (Diskus hernie).
I know a lot of schmeisse is over for me. But anyway im more exited about technical curb tricks or things like that. Skateboarding is fun, freedom, creativity and a door to forget your daily unimportant worries. By the way big thanks for this opportunity to do a interview in your skatezine (Versus schgeeeeil) appreciate that you have the passion to do it. (Egal was passiert... Ineeeee!) Oh yeah by the way, thanks a lot man, since a couple of days, i’m finally, at least from time to time, able to land this fucking 360 flip! I’m always ready to show you some 360 flips for practise... It’s one of my favorite tricks :-) How can you explain, that somebody like me, gets free boards (thanks Doodah!) But you, have to pay 100% for all your gear? I think you get boards from Doodah coz you got courage and passion (to do a self-made mag for example, and you go for it) and maybe I dont have sponsors because I don’t hustle enough stores I just want to skate! It would be awesoooome to get some support. I’m very motivated and im in for film, shoot pics or go to contests (even when I dislike them) How was filming for your bumble fuck video part? Filming with nick and all my skate-family is always huge fun!! Nick is very kind and good filmer (regisseur) I think the Bumble Fuck video is great!! So happy to have a part on it. Actually my first part in a video!! And since then, are you “working” on something new, any projects, future plans? We film and shoot very often so there will be more and more clips and videos. Talk a bit about your tatoos... My tatoos yeah i made them in Thailand (very good price hahahah) I tatooed the world on my back coz next to skateboarding, travelling is another passion to me. I wanna see the world as much as possible. The other one is a memory of Thailand. It’s in thai and it means: Jeder ist seines glückes eigener schmied.

Einmal bekam ich eine unvergessliche kortisonspritze in meine wirbelsäule. Danach konnte ich 2 monate nicht skaten.... Eine seeeeehr lange zeit (ohne skaten) für mich. Nach diesem vorfall skatete ich weiter, aber immer ein bisschen besorgt um meinen rücken. Jedenfalls jetzt bin ich fit und habe das problem im griff. Ich mache viele rückenmuskelübungen für stabilität und haltung usw. Ich weiss viel schmeisse ist für mich vorbei, aber ich interessiere mich ja auch mehr für technisches skaten am qurb usw. Skateboarding ist freiheit,kreativität und ein portal zu einer dimension welche dich deine täglichen unwichtigen problemchen vergessen lässt. Nebenbei vielen dank für diese möglichkeit ein interview in deinem skatezine zu machen.(Versus isch geeeeil) ich schätze es, das du den effort hast sowas zu machen. (Egal was passiert.....Ineeee) Ah ja nebenbei, vielen dank man. Seit ein paar tagen habe ich endlich ab und zu ein paar verdammte 360 flips gelandet. Ich bin immer bereit, dir ein paar 360 flips zu zeigen! Einer meiner lieblings tricks. Wie kannst du erklären das so jemand wie ich gratis decks erhalte (danke Doodah) und du, mussst 100% zahlen für deine ausrüstung. Ich denke du bekommst decks vom Doodah weil skateboarding deine passion ist und du den mum hast ein selbstgemachtes skatemag zu publizieren. Respekt; und ich habe keine sponsors weil ich mich vieleicht zu wenig darum. Kümmere mich in szene zu setzen bei den skatestores. Ich will einfach nur skaten. Es wäre einfach super wenn ich etwas unterstütung erhalten würde. Ich bin motiviert zum filmen, fotos machen oder sogar contest zu fahren. (Obwohl ich die nicht so mag) Wie war das filmen so für dein part im Bumble Fuck video? Mit Nick und meiner skatefamilie zu filmen ist immer riesen spass! Nick ist ein sympathischer skater der sehr gut filmt und videos macht (Bumblefuck) ich bin mehr als glücklich einen part in diesem geilen video zu haben. Es ist eigentlich auch mein erster part in einem video. Und seit dann, bist du an neuen projekten beteiligt für die zukunft? Wir sind immer ein bisschen am filmen, clips drehen usw...

I usually ask this question to people that think like me so the answer is kinda clear... But I saw you wearing some Nike stuff a couple of times. So what do you think about all those huge corporated companies taking over the skateboard business? Big brands like Nike are making a lot of money with the passion of people (skaters for example) its great to get support but if you wear clothes with this and that brand just to be accepted in the modern society it’s crap. Clothes are not that importend to me. Comfort and price are defining. But also it can be a way to show how you are, or how you would like to be... Loool Do you think if I ask Andi for an interview in Versus he will accept? Well ask andi i cant tell you if hes up to make an interview (but it would be cool to read some stuff out of his point of view). You didn’t had “the chance” to be in the fuck the police issue from versus a while ago... So, what do you think about them? Police sucks especially when they interropt us when we skate!!! They should care more about bigger problems in the world... But they are scared of the hard shit which goes on behind some doors. Do you snowboard as well? Or surf? What the fuck are you doing during winter? I was snowboarding a bit but its not the real deal for me. I came back from Brazil in spring I was surfing there a few times unfortunately not enough to look good on it. Hahahahah I love to be in the sea and on the beach im a summer guy!! Für die zukunft wird es weiter projekte geben. (Versus-video, street-skate clips, etc...) Erzähl uns ein bisschen von deinen tatoos... Meine tatoos habe ich in thailand gemacht da es seeehr günstig ist dort. Ich habe mir von einem thai-skate-tatoowierer-kollegen den atlas auf meinen rücken stechen lassen. Neben skateboarding reise ich für mein leben gerne (grosse passion) Ich will die welt so oft und weit bereisen wies nur geht. Mein anderes tatoo ist eine erinnerung an die zeit in Thailand. Es ist in thai und bedeutet: Jeder ist seines glückes eigener schmied. Und auch von deinen reisen... Ich habe vor diesen winter einen kleinen trip nach sri lanka zu machen (c.a 1 monat) ich will mich mehr mit surfen befassen. Normalerweise frage ich das leute die so denken wie ich also wäre die antwort klar... Aber ich habe dich ein paar mal in Nike kleider und so gesehen. Also was denkst du über diese riesen firmen welche das skatebusiness beherrschen? Grosse marken wie Nike machen einen riesen haufen geld mit der passion von sportlern (z.B auch skater) es ist cool wenn man unterstützung erhält, aber wenn man sich immer die neusten trendigsten marken kauft nur um dabei zu sein, dann finde ich es lächerlich. Kleider sind nicht extrem wichtig für mich. Hauptsache man fühlt sich wohl in seinen klamotten und der preis muss natürlich stimmen( oft das erste auf was ich schaue). Es ist halt oft auch zum zeigen wie man ist, oder wie man gerne sein möchte. Looool Was denkst du wäre Andi am start für ein interview im Versus? Da musst du Andi schon selber fragen, keine ahnung ob er lust hat ein interview für Versus zu machen (Aber es würde mich nicht kalt lassen die meinungen aus seiner sicht zu betrachten). Du hattest nicht die chance in der fuck the police ausgabe von versus zu sein, also was denkst du über die polizei? Polizei nervt, vorallem wenn wir am skaten sind und sie unterbrechen uns. Die sollten sich um üble verbrechen kümmern, haben aber oft den mut nicht dazu. Snowboardest du auch?? Oder surfen? Was zur hölle tust du im winter hier in bern?

Thrasher oder Whiteout? Ich schaue lieber videos und clips, bin nicht der skatemagexperte. Ich hatte noch nie ein trasher mag. Darum entscheide ich mich für whiteout (super mag und gratis) ich sehe gerne skater von verschiedenen andern stätdten in der umgebung. Cool ihr fortschritt zu beobachten. Frontside oder backside? Ich sage backside schon nur wegen den backside tailslides-liebe sie. Grind oder slide? Slides, in der letzten zeit sind mir blunts sehr symphatisch geworden. Mega ramp oder El Torro? Ich bin ein streetskater also entscheide ich mich für El Torro. Check Dave Bachinskys kickflip unglaublich! Video oder foto? Sehr schwierig beides geil. Ich war paar winter lang ein bisschen am snowboarden aber es ist nicht mein lieblingssport. Ich kam im frühling zurück von Brasilien, dort versuchte ich mich ein bisschen im meer (surfen), aber das ergebnis ist noch nicht so überzeugend.Ich bin ein absoluter sommer guy ich liebe den strand und das meer. Ok, die letzte frage... Welches ist dein lieblings versus magazin und warum? Ich habe kein bestimmtes lieblings Versus mag. Aber die ausgabe wo du das friday gratis magazin ins lächerliche ziehst finde ich sehr amüsant!! Hahahah und natürlich freuts mich immer wenn meine skateamigos ein pic drin haben. Vielen dank Jey. Letzte worte... Ich bin einfach nur dankbar und glücklich am leben zu sein. Es ist so schön andere länder, leute, kulturen, spots (skate, oder was auch immer) erleben zu dürfen. Eine skatesession mit guten kollegen zu haben, danach ein paar bier zu drinken und einfach spass zu haben ist was vom besten! Viele leute suchen ::das glücklich sein:: in materiellen dingen wie: geiles auto,riesen wohnung oder krasses outfit usw. Aber diese statusymbole sind mehr für mit sich unzufriedenen leute (damit will ich nicht sagen das jeder der einen ferari hat ein arschloch sein muss.) Man sollte sich nicht zu fest beeinflussen lassen was einem z.B die werbung einflösst... Bitte leben geniessen! So gut es geht.. Geld ist wichtig aber es gibt dinge die kann man mit geld nicht kaufen. Genug gepredigt. Vielen dank Jey und auch denen die sich das reinziehen. Keep skating.
