Uisken Beach, Mull

Mull’s southwestern peninsula, known as the Ross of Mull, has many spectacular beaches and you are spoilt for choice when it comes to swimming. My favourite is Uisken Beach, which has many rocky islands and outcrops and is a popular place to swim, snorkel and paddleboard.

Uisken (Uisgean in Gaelic, meaning ‘WaterBay’) has views out over the sea to the islands of Colonsay, Jura and Islay. The beach looks quite different depending on the state of the tide. At high tide, the beach is pretty small. At low tide, the bay becomes a lagoon with multiple sheltered options for swimming; you can walk out to some of the small islands too. There is also another little beach tucked into an inlet to the west of the main beach, which is terrific for a dip.
