INTRODUCING THE ALL NEW JAZZ
We are thrilled to introduce the all new Jazz Sport, which sits alongside a revised Jazz range. Exterior changes align the Jazz with the latest Honda family style, incorporating the ‘Solid Wing Face’ headlight signature and grille. The front bumper is sharply sculpted, with more aggressive contours around the air vents. At the rear, shallower grille sections are linked by a gloss black trim strip. Updates to the exterior are rounded off by the addition of metallic Skyride Blue as a new colour option. A valuable addition to the line-up, the Jazz Sport features a 130PS (96 kW) 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine. Based on the SE grade the Sport features; a thinner front splitter beneath the lower grille, and triplestrake diffuser to the rear bumper – both finished with a sporty red accent line similar to the Civic Type R, LED headlights, front fog lamps, side sill skirts, a tailgate spoiler and gloss-black 16” alloy wheels. The interior features a unique pinstripe pattern on the upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, all of which are enhanced by orange stitching.

The mid-grade SE model, priced from £15,615 on-the-road, adds front and rear parking sensors, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors and 15” alloy wheels. Those opting for the top-grade EX model (from £17,115) will appreciate smart entry and start, automatic climate control and reversing camera. Styling is enhanced with 16-inch alloy wheels and front fog lamps, while LED headlights are now standard addition on the EX. Generous deposit contributions are available on Honda Aspirations with a £750 deposit contribution and five years/62,500 miles servicing for £599, which represents incredible value. UPGRADED DIESEL ENGINE JOINS HONDA CIVIC LINE-UP
Since its arrival last year, the all new 10th Generation Civic has impressed both existing Honda drivers and those new to the brand. The depth of engineering within the car is testament to the skill of Honda. They have created a class leading car in terms of quality, refinement, driver enjoyment and technology. A comprehensively revised 120 PS 1.6 litre i-DTEC diesel engine now joins the Honda Civic range, offering an outstanding combination of performance and efficiency.
Honda HR-V Wins Honest John Small Crossover Award Honda has made significant improvements to the engine and the exhaust system to maximise real world performance. The efficiency enhancements for the new Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC result in a combined cycle figure of 80.7 mpg and 93g/km CO2.
Honda’s new 1.6 i-DTEC is also one of the first engines to be officially tested through the Real Driving Emission (RDE) procedure to validate NOx and particulate emission levels. The diesel powertrain has a new NOx Storage Converter (NSC) system with a higher density cell improving

NOx emission performance. A silver thin-coated particulate filter improves the combustion speed of particulate matter, extending exhaust component durability. The 1.6 i-DTEC engine produces 120 PS at 4,000 rpm and 300 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm, powering the Civic from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 10.5 seconds. A nine-speed automatic transmission will further bolster the Civics’ powertrain options in mid-2018, representing its first ever application in a two-wheel drive car. A LOOK AT THE FUTURE
Honda commits to electrified technology for every new model launched in Europe As covered in the last issue of The Link, Honda is a company that is always looking to the future. It recently confirmed that electrified technology will feature in every new car model launched in Europe. Honda aims to have electrified technology in two thirds of its new car sales by 2025 in Europe Honda’s new electric vehicle, the Urban EV Concept will be for sale in Europe in 2019. Built on a completely new platform, the EV showcases advanced technology within a simple and sophisticated design. On sale from 2018, the CR-V Hybrid will be the first Honda hybrid SUV sold in Europe. The CR-V Hybrid powertrain delivers real-world efficiency and effortless driveability. The i-MMD (Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive) two-motor system does not need a conventional transmission – instead, a more compact multi-mode unit with a single fixed-gear ratio delivers torque seamlessly to the wheels. Honda Jazz awarded Most Reliable Small Car in What Car? 2017 Reliability Survey The Honda Jazz has been named Most Reliable Small Car in What Car? magazine’s 2017 Reliability Survey, with the owners of the popular supermini reporting no faults with their car. The survey – published in the December issue of Britain’s leading consumer automotive magazine – asked owners of 14,208 cars to ask if their cars had suffered any faults in the last 12 months. These were classified into 14 groups: battery, bodywork, brakes, engine electrics, exhaust, exterior lights, fuel system, gearbox/clutch, interior trim, non-engine electrics, steering, suspension and other. The
cost and length of the repair were also used to weight the severity of the fault and create a reliability rating. The magazine reports: ‘Not one Honda Jazz owner who completed the survey reported any faults with their car, giving the little Japanese hatchback a perfect reliability score.’ The Honda Civic hatchback and Tourer also scored highly in the family cars category, achieving a 94.5% reliability rating. Older cars were also studied, with owners of older cars (4-10 years) also asked to complete the survey. The Honda Civic diesel scored 100% reliability with no owners reporting faults. This is a fantastic result for the Jazz and only goes to further demonstrate the build quality that Honda is famed for” said Phil Webb, head of car at Honda UK. “To then also further score highly with the Civic hatchback and Tourer simply reaffirms Honda as one of the most trusted and reliable brands.
Honda picks up hat-trick of trophies in Driver Power Used Car Awards Honda has been recognised for its quality and versatility in the inaugural Auto Express Driver Power Used Car Awards, with the Honda Jazz and Honda CR-V scooping a hat-trick of trophies for the Japanese manufacturer in the prestigious poll. Part of the UK’s largest customer satisfaction and ownership survey, the new-for-2017 Driver Power Used Car Awards represent a comprehensive evaluation of three-to-six-yearold vehicles, including 31 rating attributes across nine major vehicle judging categories. The results were published in late 2017 in Auto Express. The Honda Jazz clinched the Gold Award in the ‘Best Used Small Car’ category and the Honda CR-V took Silver in the ‘Best Mid-Size SUV’ segment and Gold for ‘Infotainment, Connectivity and Electrics’. For the Honda Jazz and Honda CR-V to be acclaimed as top-performing models in three major categories is a clear demonstration that Honda cars continue to perform well, giving driving pleasure long after leaving the showroom, which is testament to our products’ inherent attributes and calibre.

There are generally two ways to monitor tyre pressure, directly; by using electronic wheel mounted pressure sensors, which send measured pressure data to a central control unit, or indirectly; by using wheel speed data to look for variances in wheel speed due to circumference differences caused by a incorrectly inflated tyre. For example, if one tyre became deflated, its circumference would reduce and the wheel would need to rotate faster to keep up. Honda favours this indirect method though there are a few exceptions with some year model Jazz, late model Accords and if you are lucky enough to own one the current model NSX. If your vehicle notifies you of an issue by illuminating an amber warning light, you should immediately visually check and pressure check your tyres. Your recommended tyre pressures can be found on a white sticker on the car body inside the driver’s door. Remember to take note of the actual pressure of the tyres before inflation as this may help us if further investigation is required. If all is ok and the car drives normally, you can reset the system either through your Honda Connect system on current model Civic or via your steering wheel menu buttons on all other models. Full detail can be found in your owner’s manual, search the index under D for “Deflation Warning System” Activation of the deflation warning can sometimes be due to other influences such as differences in temperature, varying tyre makes and models, excessive tread depth differences and failure to initialise when required. If you experience multiple unexplained activations you should contact us for investigation. You should routinely check your tyre pressure (recommended monthly) as natural deflation will occur, a healthy tyre can lose 2psi in a month which is typically 6% of the recommended pressure. The deflation warning system should be initialised every time the pressure is checked regardless of whether or not the pressure is adjusted

Vertu Honda Newcastle helps drive support for local foodbank Chad Ridley, Adam Brown, Sean Coulson and their respective teams have committed to supporting the city’s most disadvantaged after sponsoring a local foodbank. The new charitable partnership sees the Scotswood Road dealership acting as a donation point for the West End Foodbank with the team also donating their time to transport the much-needed food. Chad said: “I think it’s important that businesses support local communities wherever possible and I’m proud of the enthusiasm with

Sherwood Colliery Sunday team is based at Mansfield Woodhouse and plays in the Notts YEL (Young Elizabethan League), having won the Kickstart League and cup double last season. The Lincolnshire Bowling Association was formed in 1926, and is one of the thirteen County Associations running down the Eastern side of England, stretching from Northumberland down to North Essex, that make up the English Bowling Federation (EBF). Over the years Lincolnshire has produced many national winning teams and individual champions in singles, pairs and triple competitions. Great learning environment At Vertu Honda we have a strong connection to our local communities. One of our key alliances is with the Newcastle Eagles Basketball team who compete in Great Britain’s highest level of the sport in the British Basketball league. Led by Fabulous Flournoy MBE, Newcastle are the most decorated team in BBL history. The team enjoy their Honda Civics provided by Vertu Honda. We believe in developing the grass roots of the sport and Newcastle Eagles themselves reach out to over one hundred schools in the North East. Our Managing Director, Chris Taylor, has played Basketball from a young age and is now seeing his son Brae develop his skills in the sport. Vertu Honda Grantham have provided kit for the Priory Belvoir Academy. The team have had a great couple of years competing in Leicestershire schools competitions. Brae and his team mates love their kit and the environment that Priory Belvoir Academy has provided for them educationally and personally. The school has received coaching visits from Leicester Riders BBL captain Tyler Bernardini.
COLLEAGUE FOCUS
Estelle goes to Budapest Estelle Hobbs, sales executive at our Boston dealership, has experienced a once in a lifetime trip to Budapest, thanks to Honda. The trip was in recognition of Vertu Honda Boston’s Civic sales performance. The whole team at Boston embraced both the outgoing Civic and the arrival of the stunning 10th generation Civic. Attracting over one hundred people to their launch event, the dealership got off to a flying start securing the very first cars for their customers. The European trip, with only fifteen members from the UK, saw Estelle travel to Budapest for three days that started with a river cruise and attendance of the World Touring Car Championship. On the following day Estelle visited the Hungaroring to experience the New Civic, followed by laps in current Civic Type R. Then there was a lap with one of the World touring drivers in the amazing NSX. An incredible experience for Estelle, pictured at an evening reception with Tiago, WTCC driver.
Vertu Honda Sunderland continue to deliver chart topping customer service The team at Vertu Honda Sunderland is celebrating Honda’s placement as the best brand in What Car? Magazine’s inaugural Servicing Satisfaction Survey, featured earlier in this edition of The Link. The dealership, with a team of Billy Taylor, Mark Hildreth, Dave Shaw and John Morris, is currently ranked first on Honda’s own
internal Customer Satisfaction index. The Honda index looks at the whole UK network and is a true reflection of the level of service and dedication visitors receive when having their car maintained at the dealership.

WHAT DO DAN GOLD, DAN LINFOOT AND VERTU HONDA BIKES HAVE IN COMMON?! Earlier this year Honda UK Motorcycles held a Charity Auction event for Automotive Charity, BEN, where more than £25,000 was raised. Vertu Honda Bikes Nottingham came away with a unique prize, the opportunity to have a motorcycle helmet designed and painted by well-known tattoo artist, Dan Gold. General manager of Vertu Honda Bikes, Jamie Halliday, saw a great PR opportunity with the dealership being one of the main sponsors for Honda Racing British Superbikes rider, Dan Linfoot. Jamie decided to ask Dan to wear the one-off helmet for the last two races of the season at Brands Hatch – which he agreed to happily! Jamie delivered the helmet to Brands Hatch himself and watched Dan racing, plus took lots of photographs of the event. He said: “It was a great day for all involved - Honda Racing BSB Team, Vertu Honda Bikes and Dan Gold himself.” Although Jamie had planned to auction off the helmet afterwards, Dan fell in love with it and asked if he could take it home … where it now resides in a glass cabinet!

2018 HONDA GL1800 GOLD WING The Honda Gold Wing, since its introduction as a naked 1000cc machine in 1975 has always been the ultimate in two-wheeled travel. And it’s a motorcycle that’s been very much on its own journey, growing in physical size and displacement over the decades, all the while creating an enduring and unrivalled reputation for luxury, quality and comfort. Now, in response to the evolutions of demographics and the motorcycle market, the development team in charge of the bike’s future have decided on a radical departure from what would be a traditional update trajectory. Redesigned from the wheels up, the new Honda Gold Wing is sharper, more compact and lighter; its monumental flat six-cylinder engine now features 4-valves per cylinder and comes equipped with Throttle By Wire, 4 riding modes, Honda Selectable Torque Control and Hill Start Assist.
