THE RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP 2013 TOURNAMENT REPORT * 2011 Statistics averaged over 12 games to accommodate for the smaller six-game 2011 Tri-Nations The 2013 Rugby Championship provided a number of interesting trends, including the significant drop in Scrum Completion %, albeit played under the new “Crouch-Bind-Set” rules. The season also showed a further drop in Ruck Recycle Time, a possible result from a decrease in ruck commitments. Further emphasis on allowing continuation of play through advantage also helped offset stoppages in 2013.

...POINTS DIFF

NEW ZEALAND

Despite claiming only the third highest points tally in any individual game throughout the 2013 Rugby Championship, New Zealand’s consistency in putting points on the board, along with a 100% winning success rate meant that New Zealand took out the highest points differential for the tournament.

-136

...POINTS DIFF

ARGENTINA

On the back of two heavy losses either end of the season, conceding 73 and 54 against South Africa and Australia respectively, Argentina minimised their points difference by claiming the only 2 bonus points of the 2013 Rugby Championship awarded for losses by 7 points or less.

TOP TRY SCORER Ben SMITH

New Zealand (8 Tries) Ben Smith’s impressive tally of 8 tries from 6 games put light years between him and the next closest try scorer (Israel Folau - 5 tries from 6 games). Smith missed only 7 minutes of a possible 480 throughout the Championship but amassed his 8 tries from only 4 games including a hat-trick of tries against Australia in week one, and doubles against Australia in week two and Argentina in week six. His 8th try in the last game of the New Zealand’s 2013 Rugby Championship against South Africa ensured Smith finished with the highest try scoring tally in the history of the Rugby Championship and Tri-Nations combined.
