SUPER RUGBY 2013 TOURNAMENT REPORT The 2013 Super Rugby season has seen the continuation of a number of significant trends in the game. One of the most significant trends is the reduction of defensive players committing to opponent rucks. The subsequent effect sees a significant quickening in recycle speeds, an 18% drop in ruck turnovers, and also a drop in Penalty Count (although this may be attributed to a number of aspects). Teams’ defensive strategies also appear to be on the improve in 2013, with the Made Gainline % dropping and points scored also on the decline. Made Tackle % has held very consistent throughout the 3-year period.

SUPER RUGBY 2013 TOURNAMENT REPORT

TOP TRY SCORER Frank HALAI Blues (10 Tries)

Starting the Blues 2013 campaign with four tries from the first two games, Frank Halai proved to be the one to catch throughout the 2013 Super Rugby Season. Finishing with the second highest tries-to-games ratio in the competition (behind only Cam Crawford of the Waratahs) Halai scored two or more tries on four occassions, including a hat-trick against the Rebels in Round 13. Halai made a name for himself on the wing for the Blues in his debut Super Rugby season, proving near impossible to stop from close range and supplying incredible finishes to several impressive Blues tries.
