Lecture and book signing

AIGA Houston is proud to host renowned designer, author and educator Ellen Lupton for a lecture event the evening of Saturday, March 31 at Rice University’s McMurtry Auditorium. This event will include a book signing and social for those who come early. Ellen Lupton is curator of contemporary design at Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum in New York City and director of the Graphic Design MFA program at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore. An author of numerous books and articles on design, she is a public-minded critic, frequent lecturer, and AIGA Gold Medalist. Building on her current exhibition “Graphic Design: Now in Production” and other recent projects, curator and writer Ellen Lupton will assess the current state of graphic design. Our field has expanded from a specialized, largely invisible profession to an open-access enterprise. Designers are becoming authors, publishers, instigators, and entrepreneurs, while the general public has increasing access to design tools.
