United Way of the CSRA 2009 Annual Report

Page 1

Dear Community Partner: United Way of the CSRA has been around since 1936, and one of the dangers of an “old” or “established” organization is that it can become stale or set in its ways. However, this is not the case with your United Way. In fact, the only “established” pattern your United Way has adopted is continuous improvement in the way we carry out our vision as the “leader in identifying health and human service needs and securing resources to meet these needs.” As a result of the collaborative efforts of volunteers, businesses, governments, partner agencies, and the hardworking people of our community who give so generously when the need is the greatest, your United Way was able to enhance the lives of thousands of men, women, and children in the CSRA again in 2009. So, on behalf of everyone that contributed their time, talents, or treasures, I have the privilege of sharing with you just some of the wonderful new initiatives that were launched in 2009: > FamilyWize

Prescription Discount Card* – Provides a free prescription discount card that can render an average savings of 30%.

> Free

Tax Preparation Service* – Provides free income tax preparation for local citizens.

> Community

Voice Mail (CVM)* – Provides 24hour voice mail access for people in crisis and transition.

> Stuff

the Bus* – Provides new school supplies for children in three counties.

I hope you can see that your United Way is dedicated to continuing its history of being the “leader in identifying health and human service needs and securing resources to meet these needs.” And since it seems that our community continues to have a plethora of health and human service needs, we hope you will continue to partner with your United Way to improve the lives of EVERY citizen in the CSRA through your generous support. With sincere gratitude,

Mark Maund 2009 Board Chair

Our 2009 Accomplishments In the face of an economically challenging year for our community, both our volunteers and staff met this challenge with optimism and hard work.
