DONOR DESIGNATION POLICY United Way of the CSRA does not encourage designations, however, we will process designations to 501(c)(3) health and human service agencies as a service to our donors. Each agency designation must be $150+ in order to be processed. After an effort to contact the donor, any designation that does not qualify as a 501(c)(3) health and human service agency or is no longer operational will be directed to the Community Investment Fund.

Your undesignated contribution helps provide funding for 46 vital programs that directly impact our community in a positive way. Investing in United Way means investing in the building blocks for a good life - Education, Income, and Health.

Helping children and youth succeed.

SIXTEEN (16) PROGRAMS INCLUDING:

After-School – Provides youth development program focused on academics, character, citizenship, and a healthy lifestyle.

Autism Support Services – Provides transition services to young adults on the autism spectrum.

Mentoring – Provides students in grades K-12 with individual, class, or group mentors who serve as an adult guide.

Outreach – Provides Girl Scout program for girls in grades K-12 focused on developing values, leadership and life skills, a positive self-image, and contributing to their communities.

Teen Leadership Training – Provides a leadership initiative for students in 6th8th grade focused on building self-esteem, personal accountability, critical thinking skills, goal setting, bullying prevention, and decision-making.

Traditional Scouting – Provides Boy Scout program for young people that promotes character development, physical fitness, and citizenship training.

Youth Recreation – Provides sports/camp activities for at-risk children ages 3-16 teaching them skills, teamwork, appreciation of diversity, and character development.

Promoting financial stability and independence.

EIGHT (8) PROGRAMS INCLUDING:

Budget/Credit Counseling – Provides financial counseling and guidance to achieve financial goals, reduce stress, and improve budget management.

Children’s Day Shelter – Provides free childcare for homeless families with children.

Job Skills Training – Provides homeless/ low income men and women the opportunity to gain practical life skills and job experience.

Ready for Work – Provides affordable housing and supportive services for women with mental health and substance use disorders.

Senior Companion– Provides assistance for homebound older adults and persons with disabilities to allow them to continue living independently.

Specialized Employment for the Disabled – Offers permanent employment and job security for local disabled adults.

Promoting health and wellness.

TWENTY-TWO (22) PROGRAMS INCLUDING:

24-Hour Crisis Intervention – Provides a 24/7 crisis intervention program and hotline for victims of domestic violence and their children.

Armed Forces Emergency Services – Provides 24/7 emergency communications, financial assistance, and referrals to members of the Armed Services.

Child Advocacy Center – Provides therapeutic services designed to help child victims of sexual or severe physical abuse to recover from the trauma and to help them reduce the long term symptoms of abuse.

Disaster Preparation and Relief – Provides immediate emergency assistance and follow-up assistance to victims of disaster.

Emergency Shelter – Provides safe emergency shelter and support services to homeless men, women, and children.

Family and Individual Counseling – Provides counseling services to improve and strengthen individuals and families.

Support Groups and Education – Provides support groups, life skill classes, and parenting classes for victims of domestic violence to help them become self-sufficient.

United Way continually looks for ways to provide additional services and resources for the citizens in our community.

These special initiatives and services increase our impact beyond the funds raised through the annual campaign and provide opportunities to assist more individuals in need. In 2015, answered 21,000 calls and received 13,500 online database searches connecting individuals to vital community resources.

Life was good for Myshia, her husband Rafael, and their two children, Brian age 13 and Nevaeh age 2, until Rafael began experiencing severe headaches and the inability to see out of his left eye. After a trip to the doctor, he was diagnosed with complicated retinal detachment. Since then, he has undergone 15 surgeries, and the doctors are now considering removing his eye.

Unfortunately, because of the loss of his vision and the many surgeries he has endured, Rafael was forced to cease his employment. His wife Myshia has now become the primary bread winner, and she is currently working two jobs as a CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) and personal care provider.

Because Rafael is not able to pick up anything over five pounds, he is unable to care for his two year old daughter while his wife is at work. Through a friend, they learned about The Family Y’s Child Development Center (CDC), and Myshia immediately contacted them. They were so relieved when they received word that Nevaeh had been accepted into the program. This meant that she would get the daily nurturing and care she needed and Myshia could continue her employment in support of her family.

Your contributions to United Way make it possible for the CDC to provide these crucial scholarships to families like Rafael and Myshia, providing them hope and a solution to a difficult situation.
