United Way of the CSRA’s Leadership Giving Societies exists to foster, promote, and recognize the vital importance of voluntary community service and personal giving at an exceptional level. These investors are dedicated to our community’s strong tradition of caring and demonstrate an exceptional commitment to helping others. They have made a significant personal investment and are leading the way to a better community for us all.

United Way continually looks for ways to provide additional services and resources for the citizens in our community. These special initiatives and services increase our impact beyond the funds raised through the annual campaign and provide opportunities to assist more individuals in need. These programs include:

United Way of the CSRA does not encourage designations, however, we will process designations to 501(c)(3) health and human service nonprofit agencies as a service to our donors. Each agency designation must be $150 or greater in order to be processed. Each designation under $150 will be directed to the Community Impact Fund.

Services also extend to communities in Aiken, Edgefield, and McCormick Counties in South Carolina.

Reading Tutorial- Provides elementary schools with tutors who work daily with children who have scored below grade level on the CRCT. Teen Leadership Training- Provides a leadership initiative for middle school, high school, and alternative school students that promotes positive social values. Traditional Boy Scouting/ Special Needs Scouting/Scouting Scholarships- Provides Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, & Venturing programs designed to teach a young person to reach their full potential through growth in citizenship, character development, and physical fitness. Traveling Girl Scout Troop/Outreach ProgramProvides a year-round educational Girl Scout program that reaches over 700 girls throughout the CSRA, many from singleparent, low socio-economic families, often lacking reliable transportation, resources, or the volunteer leaders necessary to participate in a traditional troop. Adult Volunteer Development- Assists adult volunteers with the necessary support and training needed to guide girls throughout the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Youth Sports- Allows children to develop new physical as well as emotional skills through a variety of sport activities.

Families and individuals will become more self-sufficient and able to contribute to society.

Adapted Programs- Provides land and water programs for physically and mentally challenged children and adults, allowing them to increase their physical skills and find success in living more independent lives.

Domestic Violence Support Groups and Education- Provides Life Skill Classes, Parenting Classes, and Support Groups for domestic violence sheltered residential clients as well as non-residential clients.

Rehabilitation for Chronic Mental IllnessProvides a state recognized peer support center, where members recovering from emotional and mental disorders participate in activities that promote recovery.

Income-Based Child Care- Provides income-based childcare allowing parents to work knowing their children are being cared for in safe and healthy surroundings.

Speech and Hearing Services/Donor Hearing Aids- Provides education and quality care (evaluation and treatment) to individuals with speech, language, swallowing, and hearing needs regardless of their socioeconomic circumstance. Provides hearing aids at no cost for persons who do not have financial means.

PROVIDING BASIC NEEDS Residents will have their basic needs met for food, shelter, and safety. Six (6) programs including: Community Cupboard- Provides a variety of food and personal hygiene items for individuals infected with HIV/AIDS. Disaster Preparation and Relief- Provides emergency assistance for families affected by disaster. Domestic Violence 24 Hour Crisis InterventionProvides a 24 hour-7 day a week Crisis Hotline and Emergency Shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children. Emergency Shelter/Prepared MealsProvides homeless men, women and children with a safe place to sleep at night, including dinner and breakfast. Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Advocacy- Provides a 24-hour crisis hotline, counseling, and advocacy for sexual assault victims.

Individual and Family CounselingProvides individual, couple and family counseling services by a licensed Masters level counselor with the goal of improving individual and family functionality. Job Skills Training- Through individual life assessments, case management, goal setting, and job skills training, assists homeless men and women in becoming self-sufficient, productive citizens. Senior Counseling and Casework / In-home Senior Companion Program- Provides senior citizens with access, information, guidance, referral, and assistance to remain safely at home. Also, offers community education on a wide variety of subject matters pertaining to the elderly or disabled. Sheltered Employment for the Handicapped- Provides employment opportunities for persons with disabilities, whether mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities.
