A Pledge to Rescue Our Youth written by Maya Angelou Š 2006

Young women, young men of color, we add our voices to the voices of your ancestors who speak to you over ancient seas and across impossible mountain tops. Come up from the gloom of national neglect, you have already been paid for. Come out of the shadow of irrational prejudice, you owe no racial debt to history. The blood of our bodies and the prayers of our souls have bought you a future free from shame and bright beyond the telling of it. We pledge ourselves and our resources to seek for you clean and well-furnished schools, safe and non-threatening streets, employment which makes use of your talents, but does not degrade your dignity. You are the best we have. You are all we have. You are what we have become. We pledge you our whole hearts from this day forward.

That was when Mahogany realized that just being the little bit of sunshine on a cloudy day can make a huge difference. Mahogany’s greatest influence in life aside from God is her mother. Mahogany says, “When I stumble or fall God picks me back up spiritually and my mom picks me back up physically.” Her mother has taught her that education comes first. In her spare time, Mahogani enjoys spending time with her family, smiling, and dancing. Her number one goal in life is to make her mother proud. She believes that her mom will be very proud when she graduates high school and college, but wants to see the tears of joy when her mother realizes that all the pain and suffering she had gone through over the years was worth it. Mahogani believes-Keeping God first in your life is not an easy thing to do, but when you do the rest of your life will fall into place.

To Lady Jazmyn,

You are half way to your goal, continue to press forward and never look back. As Philippians 3:13-14 says “forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Jazmyn, continue to be a Christian Lady, stay focus on your goals, and allow the LORD to guide your footsteps. Keep pressing toward your goals in Christ Jesus and never look back. We Love You, Granny Liz and Lue Jackson

To our Dear Sweet, Goddaughter, Jazmyn Sharaye Adams

We have watched you blossom from a little girl to a smart, fashionable, sensitive, young Christian Lady. Always allow God to order your steps, and never forget who you are in Christ Jesus. For you are a child of the King, and know that you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength (Philippians 4:13). Allow God to use you to the fullest capacity. Jazmyn, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might, put on the whole amour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil (Ephesians 6:10-11). Continue to be the beautiful person that God has allowed you to become. Keep praising that wonderful name of Jesus, and may God, though Christ Jesus, continue to grant you Grace, Mercy, Peace, Strength, Protection, Prosperity, and Love, forever and ever. Your God-Parents, Uncle B.J. and Auntie Ann P.S. We Love You, and will continue to Pray your strength in the Lord.

Ms Jazmyn Sharaye Adams Remarkable, Jazmyn! It is a pleasure for us to rethink the years from the time we first met you; the very shy young child, and have watched with great joy through the years as you have grown into the studious, adventurous and gracious young lady that you are. We read your bio with great care and admiration. You have excelled in so many areas, and we support your outlook on the future. Jazmyn, we realize that your achievements did not come easy. But, we know that you had much help from the very able God that you serve, because you have placed your faith and trust in Him. So, just know this, the same loving Father God, and a loving, caring family and church family will continue to uphold you “…in this life-changing journey” on which you have embarked. May God ever bless you.

Our Dearest Marki, Through the years we have been blessed to have been a part of your life. To have watched your growth from an inquisitive small child to the beautiful young lady you have become, no uncle and auntie could be more proud of you than we are. I am extremely proud of what an elegant young lady you have grown up to be, and of what you will become. The sky is the limit for you, not only because God has written it for you, but also because you’ve put so much work and diligence into your future. I love you, Sammi! Congratulations! Always, Thomas

Ms. Samantha Jai Henderson Amazing! Awesome! These are just two words to express our joy concerning all that you have accomplished in such a very short, but obviously, busy and studious period in your life. Samantha, not only have you excelled in your personal endeavors, you have shown forth integrity of character, It is that very important trait that has been recognized by your peers who have repeatedly found you to be a very competent and responsible leader. In your desire for success and determination to achieve you have set a rather high bar for yourself. But, we do know that you have deep faith in God, and a very devoted family to support you. That, our dear, is a winning combination!!

BEST WISHES, SAMANTHA “Give her the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.” -Proverbs 31:31

Congratulations to a fine young woman, who is full of the Spirit of Christ, creative, kind and bright. I love you!

Nothing can compare to the satisfaction you receive from a job well done. When the problems have been solved and the difficult tasks have been completed, you know without a doubt that you've created something of real value. Any difficult challenge can seem a bit overwhelming when you first encounter it. Yet as you begin to work on it, you transform it from overwhelming to fulfilling. The confidence you gain from a job well done cannot be obtained in any other way. And that confidence will still be with you long after the work has been completed. The real value of accomplishment is not in the having. It is in the doing. Success is a state of mind, and the most reliable way to reach that state of mind is by working through a meaningful challenge. What a blessing it is that there is always work to be done. Step willingly forward and take on those tasks that you know will make a difference. And enjoy the continuing benefits that flow from a job well done. Amira, you are truly an amazing young lady. I wish you much happiness and great success. Darlene Singer

There is no limit to your potential. For there is no limit to what you can imagine, and whatever you can imagine, you can bring into your life. Yes, there are very real hurdles to whatever you attempt. And in some way or another, you can get yourself over every one of them. When you imagine limitations, they become real. Instead, focus your imagination on the positive possibilities, and focus your efforts on making them real. Think of all the things, once considered to be impossible, that are now commonplace. Always remember that when there is a good enough reason, there is a way. In every moment, you are making progress in one direction or another. Choose to use those moments, as they come, and focus your efforts to fulfill the great potential that is yours. Feel the unique potential that is your life. Give your own special beauty to the world. Much Success – Christina Houston

A little bit of success gets you enthusiastic about making even more success. So what can you do right now to create just a small, but meaningful success in your life? A tiny step forward is, after all, a step forward. And there are plenty of ways, in every moment, to take just a tiny step forward. Every time you make a difference, your confidence grows. This day is filled with opportunities, both big and small, to make a difference. Success in one area of your life spills over into all the other areas of your life. When you feel yourself being effective, that makes you even more effective. So even though it may not solve your biggest problems right away, take that next opportunity to make a difference. Build yourself some positive momentum. The most enduring opportunities come in small doses, one moment at a time. In this very moment, there's one for you that's waiting to be claimed.

Amira,

Without inspiration the best powers of the mind remain dormant, they is a fuel in us, which needs to be ignited with, sparks. -Johann Gottfried Von Herder
