Viagnehy Fernandez GENERAL ASSEMBLY INTERN ARCHITECT
General Assembly focuses mainly in High-End Residential design. The bulk of GA’s projects are gut renovations of existing NYC apartments. During my time there, we have also done a gut renovation of a home and adjacent barn in upstate NY, as well as a renovation of an office for a tech startup in NYC As an Intern Architect at General Assembly, I was involved in every phase of the projects we worked on - from initial client meetings , through to the final punch list. On typical projects my responsibilities included Zoning and Code Analysis, developing a Schematic Design for client presentations, obtaining approval from the client’s Building Board and city DOB, creating Bid Sets and answering Contractor RFI’s, updating the CD Set and subsequent Revisions, Site Visits and continued communications with the GC (RFIs, Shop Drawing Review) My strength is in details; I ensure that our conceptual designs will look and function as intended. It is important to me that every component fits together, and that every connection has been well thought out. By using CAD, Rhino and hand sketches I like to work out any potential issues arising from our millwork details and more complicated assemblies. I like to be thorough at every step in the design process. Understanding appliance clearances leads to fewer problems down the road for the millworker. Researching material properties and installation methods allows me to account for different site conditions which may not be apparent until construction has started. There are projects where we handle all the appliance, fixture and fitting orders; In those situations it is important to make sure everything is compatible, to-code, and within budget.

LUFT ARCHITECTS
INTERN ARCHITECT During my time at Luft Architects, the majority of the work coming in was from the town of Atlantic Highlands in NJ. Following Hurricane Sandy, most of the homes on the NJ shoreline needed significant renovations. The town we dealt with required lifitng the homes roughly 12’ above the flood plain. I spent a good deal of time researching the FEMA guidelines to ensure that our projects met the Federal and Local requirements. There were details specific to High Wind Zones and Flood Zones that we needed to incorporate into these buildings.
DOWNTOWN INTERIORS
OFFICE MANAGER/DRAFTSMAN At Downtown Interiors, I primarily created Shop Drawings for client approval and for use in our millwork shop. In addition to being a High End millwork shop, Downtown Interiors were also General Contractors. At the time, I also reviewed Bid Sets and put together our company’s Bid for smaller construction projects, and for the millwork on larger scale projects
