If you’re in the market for a new mattress, you may want to make Ethical Mattress in Millburn the first stop of your shopping experience. Shop owner Bryan Umiker, a sleep industry veteran of twenty years, aims to ‘change the world one mattress at a time’ by offering mattresses, pillows, and bedding distinctly different from most on the market.

“People don’t realize the vast majority of mattresses in the marketplace are made predominantly from petroleum-based foams and petro-chemicals,” Umiker explains. “The mattresses we offer, however, are made of sustainably sourced, certified organic materials to provide a natural and toxin-free sleep surface from crib mattresses on up to twin, full, queen and king.”

In addition to being toxin-free, the mattresses feature high quality construction. Beds are made by Shifman, a manufacturer of two-sided luxury mattresses that are handmade in Newark, and also the Natural Dreams brand, a competitively priced line of Greenguard certified mattresses made in North Brunswick that Umiker says is comparable to brands like Avocado and Naturepedic. https://ethicalmattress.com

At its 2200-sq.-ft. storefront, prospective clients can view thirteen mattress installations, including a nursery and youth section, along with a selection of pillows, toppers, protectors and sheets. In business since just December of 2022, customers are impressed, says Umiker, by the store’s calm and peaceful ambience and spacious installations. “I’ve been told it feels very warm, residential.” Ethical Mattresses’ commitment to recycling replaced mattresses is a popular service, too, giving clients the ability to also change the world one mattress at a time.
