Startup Canada DAY ON THE HILL OVERVIEW OVERVIEW On November 21, 2013, Startup Canada, in partnership with Minister of State for Small Business, The Honourable Maxime Bernier, will host a first-of-its kind celebration of Canadian entrepreneurship – ‘Startup Canada Day on the Hill’ (Hill Day). This day will draw together more than 600 Ministers, Members of Parliament, entrepreneurs, business leaders and media, for a full day celebration of Canadian entrepreneurship. This will be a spectacular day filled with VIP gatherings, a keynote panel and a major reception featuring the ‘who’s who’ of Canadian entrepreneurship, taking place within a very special week – Global Entrepreneurship Week (November 18 – 24, 2013.

OBJECTIVES From local communities and national ecosystem building to high-impact nation-wide campaigns and highly targeted programs for youth and Aboriginal entrepreneurs, Startup Canada has created a powerful brand and built unprecedented momentum as the leading and most-followed national entrepreneurship organization in Canada. Startup Canada Day on the Hill is an important step in reaching decision makers to support them in creating policies that advance entrepreneurship and growth in Canada and to demonstrate the momentum, impact the potential of the Startup Canada movement to bring together, support and champion the Canadian entrepreneurship ecosystem and create a strong brand that will continue to inspire the nation and promote Canada on the world-stage.

Startup Community Leaders will be flown in from across Canada and will have their own agenda for this special day, which will also include one-to-one meetings with MPs and Ministers as well as a lunch with the Sparks Street Association to brainstorm and support the development of a strategy to turn Sparks Street into an entrepreneurial hub in Ottawa.

Scheduling op-eds for Global Entrepreneurship Week in local and national media;

Working with our Advisors – Rick Spence (National Post) and Sean Stanleigh (Globe & Mail) to obtain coverage;

Targeting media invitations;

Booking high-target ad space on Sparks Street;

Taking over Sparks Street for the 3 weeks leading up to the Hill Day; and,

Securing ads in the Hill Times, Ottawa Citizen, National Post, Globe & Mail and iPolitics,

Preparing weekly policy focused articles in PIVOTmagazine.ca;

Initiating a Twitter Campaign commencing October 2013 using #StartupontheHill #Cndpoli
