Digital Pathways Initiative 8-WEEK DIGITAL MEDIA CHARRETTE 2021
WHAT IS A CHARRETTE? !  A charrette, is series of challenge-based learning
events and tasks that involve intense design or planning activity.
charrette may refer to any collaborative session in which a group of designers drafts a solution to a design problem.
!  The word
!  While the structure of a charrette varies, depending on
the design problem and the individuals in the group, charrettes often take place in multiple sessions in which the group divides into sub-groups.
WHAT IS A CHARRETTE? ! Each sub-group then presents its work to the full group
as material for further dialogue. ! Such charrettes serve as a way of quickly generating a
design solution while integrating the aptitudes and interests of a diverse group of people. ! Although the structure of charrettes may vary, the
general idea of a charrette is to create an innovative atmosphere in which a diverse group of stakeholders can collaborate to "generate visions for the future".
BENEFITS OF A CHARRETTE ! Educate students on how to prepare themselves for
candidacy to a 4-year college or university, gainful employment, and/or entrepreneurial endeavor.
! Provide a forum for planning a project with those who
can influence decisions.
! Establish a multidisciplinary teams that can set and
agree on common project goals, while promoting “collective enthusiasm.”
! Generate early expectations or quantifiable metrics,
while providing early understanding of the potential impact of various strategies.
BENEFITS OF A CHARRETTE ! Identify project strategies for exploration with their associated
costs, time constraints, and the needed expertise to eliminate costly "surprises" later in the processes.
! Identify partners, available grants, and potential collaborations
that can provide expertise, funding, credibility, and support to the project. ! Set a project schedule and budget that all team
members feel comfortable following.
