Waste Plastic has Valuable Uses Waste plastic is one of the greatest dangers the world now encounters. In a sense, it is more disastrous than any other catastrophes that have happened. It endangers the fauna and flora of the world. It pollutes land, water and air. It endangers almost all beings including human beings. It is reported that there will be more plastic waste than all the fish in the sea by 2050. An effective and complete check to this danger is not in view. All of the suggested remedies have one or the other drawback. It has already been established that once it is deposited in any form in the earth, it will remain unaffected or non-degraded for thousands and thousands of year. That is, it has the quality of long durable existence. This is a quality that any or other made material does not possess. Plastic Reinforced Concrete Construction Block is an innovative construction material that can be made


using common concrete and concrete mixed waste plastic particles. Concrete mixed waste plastic is inserted as an “inside block� to be contained inside a concrete box like outer structure, at the time of moulding itself so that it never comes in contact with the outside atmosphere. This may be viewed as an innovative use of Waste Plastic viz. reinforcement of waste plastic within a concrete block. Here the waste plastic collected from various sources is converted to tiny(1mm) particles, using a cross cut Plastic Shredding Machine, and are mixed with concrete in a better ratio. A suitable quantity of this mixture is inserted inside an ordinary concrete block at the time of moulding so that it will remain as an inside block insulated at all sides in about two inch thickness. The concrete block is reinforced with plastic coated wire mesh so that the plastic mixture will remain firmly at the central part as if in a wire net box. The wire mesh box like structure will act as a container inside the block. The blocks made as experimental models have been found to be strong as much as any other bricks or blocks commonly used for construction of building etc. This may be


used as an effective substitute for Hollow Blocks. Blocks manufactured as experimental models seem to be very successful. As the wire net used to form a box like structure to contain plastic-concrete mixture inside the block is also fully plastic coated, it will never subject to corrosion. One block of 12x6x6 inch will contain at least 250 gram of waste plastic. Thus one lakh plastic reinforced RCC Block will consume 25,000 kg of waste plastic. Certain sample plastic reinforced concrete construction blocks have been produced and tested. This is having dimension of an ordinary cement construction block. These showed to be sturdy and strong enough to withstand pressure equal to ordinary blocks. This can be used to make dwelling house walls, compound walls, pavement blocks, and for filling space between pillars of multi storied building etc. The manufacturing of this block in large scale will give new employment opportunities to lakhs of individuals.
