Come Try Group Reformer Pilates “I must be right. Never an aspirin. Never injured a day in my life. The whole country, the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They’d be happier.” - Joseph Hubertus Pilates, in 1965, age 86 Pilates (puh-LAH-teez), born from the mind of German-born Joseph H. Pilates a century ago, is a method of exercise and physical movement designed to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body. With systematic practice of specific exercises coupled with focused breathing patterns, Pilates has proven itself invaluable not only as a fitness endeavor itself but also as an important adjunct to professional sports training and physical rehabilitation of all kinds. Just as with mat Pilates class, reformer Pilates mobilizes the spine, develops the body’s core (abdominals, low back, hips, and gluteals), and improves coordination, flexibility, posture, balance, alignment, body awareness, and range of motion throughout the body. Pilates also increases lung capacity and circulation with its emphasis on deep, healthy breathing. However, unlike mat, the reformer uses the assistance of springs and straps to aid in mobilizing tight muscles and stabilizing weak ones, turning off dominant muscles and reactivating dormant ones, and building better overall body symmetry. Practiced regularly, with a qualified teacher, Pilates can benefit everyone from the athlete to the rehabilitation client. And with small group reformer classes available daily, are a perfect choice if you want a more accessible price point. Have you tried a Group Reformer Pilates class yet? Here are 5 reasons why you should: 1. It will enable you to move better by increasing your spinal mobility. 2. It will improve your golf, tennis, pickle, or baseball game by increasing rotational strength, stability, and flexibility. 3. It will give you a whole-body workout with the benefits of correction and proper form at a much lower price point than a private session. 4. It will improve your body awareness, allowing you to tap into the deeper smaller muscles to execute the exercises. 5. It will create a foundation of strength and symmetry that improves every other physical activity you do, from archery to Zumba. Come see what it’s all about.
