John O’Gaunt Golf Club supporting charitable causes John O’Gaunt Golf Club has a proud history of supporting charitable causes and has raised countless thousands for deserving groups. Each year the club captain, ladies captain, senior section captain and junior captain select a charity to support. But the link between the club, in Sutton, Bedfordshire and one particular charity runs deep. Since 2007, thanks to veteran John O’Gaunt member Jock Allan, the club has held an annual charity day in aid of prostate cancer research. It has been such a success that the event has been named after him – the Jock Allan Prostate Cancer Day. This year, on 4th April, 76 golfers turned out to show their support in a competition won by Ian Riches and Andy Brown.

After a carvery lunch, an auction raised £3,855, bringing the total raised on the day to an estimated £6,615. Present to accept the donation was Prostate Project Ambassador Colin Stokes, who praised John O’Gaunt and Jock for their support over the past 15 years. He said the money would go towards funding a lifesaving mobile testing unit. In an emotional moment, a tearful Jock was presented with a special framed certificate marking his work over the years for the charity. John O’Gaunt Captain Rob Bage said he was delighted by the continued generosity of club members in support of such a great cause. He praised the efforts of Jock, who he described as “quite frankly, one of the nicest individuals I have had the privilege to meet”.
