THE 2020 CENSUS: IT’S NOT TOO LATE!

There’s still time to make sure your household is counted in the 2020 Census. You can self-respond online, by phone, or by mail using the information provided below. Your response is important: the amount of federal funding the Village will receive over the next 10 years is determined by our population count. Funding can be allocated to health care, infrastructure, education and library services, and much more. An accurate count also makes sure your voice is heard in Congress; Census data is used to redraw congressional districts and to decide the number of seats Illinois has in the House of Representatives.

Please be aware that on July 30, 2020, the U.S. Census Bureau launched their Non-Response Follow-Up Phase, during which enumerators visit households that have yet to respond, and will continue until the fall. An enumerator can be identified by their official Census Bureau ID badge, bag or laptop, and letter. They will never ask to enter your home and will only ask questions that appear on the official census form.

Tips To Help Protect Yourself From Scams

While we continue to adjust from the impacts of the pandemic, scammers continue to come up with creative ways to trick you into giving them money. Here are a few helpful tips provided by the Federal Communica tions Commission to help avoid being a victim. • Do not respond to calls or texts from unknown numbers, or any others that appear suspicious. • Never share your personal or financial information via email, text messages, or over the phone. • Be cautious if you’re being pres sured to share any information or make a payment immediately. • Scammers often spoof phone numbers to trick you into answer ing or responding. Remember that government agencies will never call you to ask for personal information or money. • Do not click any links in a text message. If a friend sends you a text with a suspicious link that seems out of character, call them to make sure they weren’t hacked. • Always check on a charity (for ex ample, by calling or looking at its actual website) before donating. If you think you’ve been a victim of a coronavirus scam, contact law enforcement immediately.
