Art, nature and technology
in perfect harmony

During lockdown, art educators Matthew Magnus and Shelly O’Brien established Norfolk Threads as a community interest company, with the aim of improving people’s wellbeing through art and engagement with the local environment and creative technology. Norfolk Threads has recently launched its first community art project, which is completely free to take part in and open to everyone. “The Leaf Project encourages people to engage with nature and get creative with photography, drawing and textiles,” says Matthew. “It showcases what Norfolk Threads is really about; we mix
Matthew and Shelly art, creative technology and the natural environment to make us feel better, and we want to share it with our community. “To get involved, go for a walk and look for leaves with shapes and colours that interest you. Take lots of pictures and collect the ones you like best. Look closely at the leaves and create a simple line drawing of a leaf. Take a photo of your drawing and send it to Norfolk Threads via email, or our Facebook page. We will stitch your drawing out on our digital embroidery machine as a unique piece of textile art and send it back to you in the post.”
