Is there anybody there?
ehearsals for the Billingshurst Dramatic Society’s May production are in full swing! Building on the success of February's Murdered to Death, Jane Brough and Peter Burton have chosen to direct another comedy, Give Us A Sign by Tony Domaille. Out-of-work Ken Lockwood (played by Roddy McKerrell) decides to start a new business as a clairvoyant. Since Klairvoyant Ken – yes, he does spell it with a ‘K’ – doesn’t seem to have any particular gift for communing with the dead, his long-suffering wife, Rachel (Ted Gooda), is distressed by the notion that he is earning money by ‘making things up’. Meanwhile, news of the death of a famous scientist, Professor Alice Roberts (Denise Robinson), fills the media, but what secrets has she taken to her grave? Suddenly, everyone wants to talk to the dead woman. It’s all quite a challenge for the not-terribly-convincing psychic powers of poor Klairvoyant Ken, especially when he finds himself at the centre of a diplomatic ‘incident’! Usually front of stage, Peter Burton makes his directorial debut with Give Us A Sign. It’s not the daunting prospect that it might be, though, since he is collaborating with experienced writer and director Jane Brough, and is confident that she will ‘keep him on the straight and narrow.’
We’re delighted that BDS favourite Lisa Falkner is making a return to the stage, and that Di Pospisil and Stephen Wright are joining us for their first full-length production, having both taken part in BDS murdermystery evenings. We are also thrilled that we have some new members helping out backstage and on the technical team. Don’t forget to get in touch via the website if you would like to get involved. Many hands make light work, as the saying goes, or ‘Is there anybody there?’ as Klairvoyant Ken might say. The show will run for four performances at the Women’s Hall with curtain up at 7.45pm on the 26th, 27th and 28th May, plus an additional 2pm matinee and afternoon tea in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support on Saturday 28th May.
