Museum moves out

SPOTLIGHT ON…

Until 30th September

Following its closure for improvement works, the Thomas Henry museum can still invite you to enjoy several masterpieces from its collection, on the streets of the town. This is a first for France! Just around a bend in the road, in a park… you could come across Patrocle by David, Merry Company by Jan Massys, The Conversion of Saint Augustin by Fra Angelico, and even Portrait of Pauline Ono by JeanFrancois Millet! Enter the photographic competition taking place between 1st July and 30th September: take a photo of yourself in front of one of the exhibits, and send it to communication@ ville-cherbourg.fr with ‘Concours Musée Fait le Mur’ in the subject line, and include your contact details (name, address, telephone number). Your photo will be published on the town’s Facebook page: persuade your friends to vote for you in order to get the most ‘Like’ on Facebook. At the end of each month, the most popular photos will win a prize. On the streets of Cherbourg-Octeville.

Henri Cartier-Bresson, Paul Strand, Mexico 1932-1934 Until 2nd September

In the early 1930s, Paul Strand and Henri Cartier-Bresson stayed successively in Mexico. The former was already well-known in New York for his modern photography, the second still a young ambitious photographer. Mexico proved to be a defining experience for both, as each worked on a different way of seeing things. As well as documenting their activities, the exhibition brings together more than a hundred images taken by these innovative photographers, including some definitive masterpieces of modern photography. This exhibition is brought to you in partnership with the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation. Le Point du Jour, avenue de Paris. Tuesday to Friday, 2pm to 6pm, Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 7pm. Free entry. ( 02 33 22 99 23
