Key Findings Summary  Isle of MTV 2016 generated at least 100 media items between 4 February to 9 July 2016. An estimated £0.3m in attributable PRV was generated and provided 18m Opportunities to See (OTS*). The total Reach was estimated at approx. 415 million (see evaluation terminology).  61% of the press coverage was generated pre-show (before 28 June), which accounted for approximately half of the total £PRV.  Coverage from Maltese publications and websites contributed 43% of the total volume and 45% of the total £PRV.

The bar chart (right) indicates that Performer Announcement items wee the most popular by volume - 750, then General stories – 27, The Show coverage – 15 and Building Buzz – 8.  By country, Maltese publications and websites published 30% of all Isle of MTV Coverage, then: UK – 27%, Italy – 23%, France – 4%, Poland – 3%, Netherlands – 3%, USA – 3%, Belgium – 2%, Canada – 2%, India - 1%, Australia – 1%, Lebanon – 1%.  The Top 10 sources by volume of articles, were: timesofmalta.com – 7, malttoday.com.mt – 6, independent.com.mt – 5, music-news.com, femalefirst.co.uk, contactmusic.com, tvm.com.mt – 4. 

By Reach dailymail.co.uk was the top source, reaching an estimated 231m unique users per month.  The best item by £PRV (see image top-right) was a performer announcement in the Daily Mirror for Wiz Khalifa and Jess Glynne, worth £23k.

Evaluation Terminology  PRV / PR Value: Calculated for print coverage by measuring the size of the print article and referring to the publisher’s rate card, typically based on costs for a colour-page display ad. The free live music event will return to Il-Fosos Square on Tuesday, June 28, in partnership with MTV and the Malta Tourism Authority. Isle of MTV Malta will be filmed and edited into a 60-minute special that will broadcast across 20 MTV channels throughout Europe.

British singer and songwriter Jess Glynne is the first artist to be named as part of the line-up of this year’s edition of Isle of MTV. The annual open-air concert, now in its tenth edition, will be held in Floriana on 28 June.

The pop superstar had been scheduled to perform in last year’s edition of the concert but had to back out because of surgery.

The announcement was made this afternoon by Viacom’s Russel Samuel. Viacom is the media network behind MTV. Mr Russel said the Grammy winning singer was thrilled to be performing in Malta. Her upcoming tour was one of the most hotly anticipated ones this year, he said.

Speaking about the annual event which attracts tens of thousands to the granaries in Floriana, Mr Samuel said the past decade had been a ‘wonderful’ one for MTV. Malta was an ideal location because of its consistencies – its beauty, the excellent relationship between MTA and the MTA and the fans.

The rest of the line-up will be announced at a later stage but MTV was “all about championing the hottest talent of the year,” Mr Samuel said.

As has become custom, Isle of MTV will be accompanied by the Malta Music Week, organised by G7 events. Director Owen Spiteri said the idea was to provide youths travelling to Malta a wider package of activities, which stretched beyond the night of the concert. “Travellers want to explore as much as they can in a short span of time.” Noting that Malta Music Weeks has through the years brought some of the biggest names in music to Malta, Mr Spiteri said the event was not all about clubbing.

“Malta has a lot to offer and we want visitors to see and experience as much as possible.”

Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis lauded the recently published tourism figures for 2015, noting that tourist expenditure had increased by â‚Ź115 million. The Isle of MTV concert, he said, was important to Malta for four main reasons. The event attracts over 55,000 people to Floriana and the benefits for the business community in the area are evident. The aim, Dr Zammit Lewis said, was to extend those benefits beyond the night of the concert. The second reason was visibility, he said, insisting that marketing targeted at youths, especially on the social media, would be stepped up. The event also carried logistical and social benefits.

MTA CEO Paul Bugeja said: “The concert was a mega-event that required a mega-expenditure so we try to get as much out of it as possible.� Isle of MTV formed part of an ever increasing list of activities held throughout the year around Malta and Gozo. Mr Bugeja said more than 250 activities that suit the likes of everyone will be held this year.

Grammy award winner Jess Glynne will be delighting the crowds at the Granaries in Floriana at the 10th edition of the Isle of MTV Malta, which this year will be held on June 28.

The British singer and songwriter, who is “super excited” about her trip to Malta, is the first entertainer to be announced from this year’s line-up.

Last year, she had to drop out of the concert because of an illness. She had also dropped out of the Isle of Wight Festival ahead of surgery on her vocal cords.

Glynne shot to international stardom following a series of number one singles including Hold My Hand.

Her participation was announced yesterday during the launch of the Isle of MTV Malta branding campaign – the first time that marketing for the event kicked off four months in advance.

Multi-platinum selling rapper Wiz Khalifa has today been confirmed to perform at Isle of MTV Malta, which will this year be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the open-air concert on the sunlit Mediterranean island. The free live music event, a partnership between MTV and the Malta Tourism Authority will return to Il-Fosos Square on Tuesday 28 June 2016.

The show will be held on June 28 on the Granaries.

Aoki is a popular DJ at Tomorrowland, one of the world's biggest dance music festivals, held in Belgium.

He was in Malta on holiday in 2010.

A golden goose for the Tourism Ministry, the concert, now in its tenth edition, was touched by a spot of controversy this year, with Wiz Khalifa posting pictures of himself apparently indulging in some marijuana at the Blue Grotto. In his response to the issue, Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis attempted to deflect the unpleasantness by stating that "these artists have their own style" and that although Malta is a "free country", they will be expected to adhere to our laws. Reading between the lines, it's unlikely Khalifa will be investigated, we can therefore expect tonight's show to carry on as planned.

Though mercifully more windswept than some of its earlier editions, and with press fully primed for a tell-tale gaffe by Khalifa in particular, the press conference announcing tonight's concert, which kicks off at the Granaries at 18:00, was a largely business as usual affair.

Clean Bandit emerged as the least dazed of the bunch, offering up some relevant answers about their working method and stylistic influences, with Grace Chatto describing her and fellow band member Jack Patterson's acedemic pedigree in music and filmmaking in Moscow.

In fact, the band's strange name also has its roots in Russia. "While we were living in Russia, a lady called my sister a 'clean bandit', which means she's a total bandit – like a real rascal," Grace said, before revealing that the band will be collaborating with Elton John on their next album – a sophomore effort following New Eyes (2014).

"Working with Elton John is really crazy... he's just so lovely, and so quick in the way he works, too – he'll just get into the studio and won't stop playing. He'd be composing songs even as he's talking to you!"

Far more taciturn then her fellow performers, Jess Glynne simply described Malta as "yeah, really hot", and when asked about her style choices, said she doesn't really follow any particular designers, but relies on casually browsing through fashion magazines and Instagram for ideas.

Meanwhile, Wiz Khalifa said that tonight's concert marks the beginning of his European tour, after which he will embark on 'The High Road' tour with former Isle of MTV guest Snoop Dogg. Asked about what he thinks of Malta, he name-checked his fateful visit to the Blue Grotto, telling MTV presenter Becca Dudley that, "It's really tight, you should check it out".

DJ Steve Aoki will be debuting several new songs at tonight’s Isle of MTV Malta concert – as well as several cakes at the afterparty.

The electro-house superstar, named one of the world’s top 10 DJs by DJ Mag, announced this afternoon that his team had placed an order for some 20 cakes, with a six-page requirement list to ensure the cakes are sufficient for their intended purpose.

“Everyone should get caked in the face at least once in their lives,” he said at a press conference this afternoon, leaving little doubt as to what that might be. “You need the right cake: it has to be soft, explosive, spongy and gooey.”

Aoki also took some time for a live video call from the press conference stage to DJ Afrojack, a former Isle of MTV participant, who gave him some advice ahead of tonight’s concert.

“I’ve been in Malta before – but I can’t remember if I actually played here,” Aoki said. “I definitely went scuba-diving. This is one of the best places for diving anywhere in the world.”

American rapper Wiz Khalifa, meanwhile, seemed unfazed by the controversy he has courted since arriving in Malta a few days ago, greeting journalists while smoking what appeared –again – to be cannabis.

Journalists were instructed by organising staff not to raise the issue during interviews.

This evening’s concert will also include Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Jess Glynne, fresh from performing at Glastonbury, and UK electronic group Clean Bandit.

Grace Chatto from Clean Bandit said audience members tonight could expect the group’s trademark mix of electronic and acoustic sounds, coming together for a “fun and energetic performance”.

Isle of MTV Malta kicks off at 6pm this evening at the Floriana Granaries, with gates opening at 3pm.

Organisers have advised the public to use public transport wherever possible to avoid heavy congestion. A number of special bus services will run until 12.30am, while a number of road closures will be in effect around the area.

MTV attracted an estimated 50,000 fans to Valletta’s Il-Fosos Square for the 10th anniversary of Isle Of MTV Malta.

Held in partnership with the Malta Tourism Authority, the free open air festival on June 28 featured performances from Wiz Khalifa, Jess Glynne and Clean Bandit, along with a closing set from Steve Aoki.

The show was live streamed on www.isleofmtv.com, while a partnership with Snapchat made the event a globally viewable Snapchat Live Story. In addition, MTV’s Snapchat Discover channel featured a wide range of content from behind the scenes footage to performance clips. Fans were also able to interact with the show via Facebook Live links from the event.

A 60-minute Isle of MTV Malta special will be broadcast across 20 MTV channels internationally from August 1.

It’s a bit of a cheek calling a town square concert, starting at 7pm on a Tuesday and wrapping up before midnight, a festival. But as lissom host ‘Becca’ points out, this is the Snapchat generation.

"I wanna see every single one of your phones out!"

Take it from me, in the midst of the 50,000+ strong crowd: they all are anyway.

Loveable posh kids Clean Bandit kick off with the astute observation that Malta in June is ‘really hot’, before a lively set culminating in crowd pleaser Rather Be. There’s barely time to grab a pint – local lager Cisk (pronounced ‘chisk’) is a most sessionable 4.2% ABV – before Jess Glynne takes the stage.

I mean no disrespect when I say MTV knows the attention span of its (largely millennial) audience. The whole show barrels along at a lively clip, with pacy onscreen promos for Maltese holidays (seafood, sunsets, sexy girls) interspersed with garish cartoon clichés; an ice cream cone, a ghetto blaster, the Cross of Malta (a joyously incongruous icon dating back to the crusades). Later in the evening a prancing hypeman earns his crust keeping us all facing onstage during the swift turnaround between acts.

--Anyway, Jess Glynne is fucking great. Her muscular soul chops, supported by strident horns and tight-as-a-nun’s-chuff rhythm section, introduce a welcome dimension of muso class to proceedings. A barnstorming cover of Chaka Khan’s I Feel For You emphatically seals the win. As the final chords echo off the fairylit facade of St. Publius Church just across the square, it’s fair to say she’s made a fan out of me.

Next up, stoner prince Wiz Khalifa. The Pittsburgh MC got himself in hot water with the local press yesterday, sharing an Instagram snap of himself sparking a blunt on a charter yacht in Malta’s balmy Blue Lagoon. Journalists and online commentators alike were fairly frothing at the nerve of the man, and to be fair it is a bit rich that a dozen people are arrested for a cheeky toke during his languid set while he swans off on a private jet. Highlights include fan favourite See You Again and an appearance by his sidekick crew Taylor Gang.

But enough about him: the real star is Steve Aoki. By a mile. With thunderous trap breaks, mind-bending visuals and (amazingly) a couple of Blink-182 numbers thrown in, his performance is interstellar in scope yet still possessed of lively wit and selfdeprecation. EDM at its finest, basically. For his trademark finalé, Aoki and crew hurl locally baked cakes into the ecstatic faces of the front row faithful; later we discover the Japanese-American’s touring ‘cake rider’ runs to fully six pages long.

For many, as with the event in general, this cake stunt might seem a bit sickly and in your face. But, if you’re not much of a camper, a day or two chilling on a sun-kissed island is far more fun than freezing your cock off on a windswept hillside in Somerset.

Sat Bal joined the revellers at Tuesday’s celebratory event (29 Jun'16)] Every year, at around this time, the lobby of the luxurious Grand Hotel Excelsior falls into a peculiar silence when a particular performer arrives. This time that honour fell to Wiz Khalifa and his Taylor Gang entourage. The rap star left the hotel’s receptionists fawning and guests pointing as he ambled past the spacious check-in area. That’s what a chart-topping single in 95 countries does for you.

Later at MTV’s press conference (above) Wiz told us what he thought of Malta, particularly the Blue Grotto where he took that now infamous smokin’ pic of himself: “It’s really tight and you should check it out!”

Bad-boy Wiz pointed out that the prospect of the audience going topless tonight was something we could check out too.

"Maltese boobies?" asked Becca, helpfully. "Yeah those!" he beamed.

Moving back to music he also announced the start of his Euro tour and his tour excursions with Snoop Dogg, who was also a past performer at Isle of MTV. In the background Josh and Mike Greenfield of Brothers Green Eats fame cooked up all manner of tasty nosh as the press call proceeded, tempting Jess Glynne to a nibble.

On Isle of MTV show day hostess Becca Dudley (more of her later) invited the first of many to hit the stage. Local band Airport Impressions regaled the crowd - 70,000 of them according to Steve Aoki - with their rock and house set.

They were followed by UK’s Clean Bandit (below) who roused the audience with hits from the album New Eyes. The singalong with fans also included hits Rather Be and Real Love.

Sunset saw Jess Glynne emerge in a black satin two-piece with Don’t Be So Hard On Yourselfringing through the al fresco venue.

Production values were MTV-high and the stage set shimmered to tracks including Ain’t Got Far to Go and Hold My Hand. But the real show-stopper was her tribute I Feel For You to the late, great Prince.

The drawls and deep bass lines of Wiz Khalifa then filled the air as he opened with global hit Black and Yellow and later the crowd-pleasing We Dem Boyz with 2011 smash Young, Wild & Free, ending his set.

Of all tonight’s stellar performers we reckon it was DJ/producer Steve Aoki who truly got the crowd collectively buzzed – not th least because of his carnival cake-throwing capers. Ten cakes were ‘served’ to splattered fans, signifying the event’s 10 birthday. Sweet, too, was his invitation to an enthralled fan to join him in his DJ booth. Snapchatting made Steve as partyinclusive as his tracks from Back 2 U to Can’t Go Home in the pyro and flame lit sky.

Judging by the elated crowd reaction this MTV partnership with the Malta Tourism Authority has more than shown its mettle.

It was a fitting 10th birthday close and then it was off to the afterparties to celebrate some more!

Clean Bandit a eu l'honneur d'ouvrir le festival : enchaînant tube sur tube, le groupe britannique a su faire monter la sauce et conquérir un public venu (très très) nombreux ! Point ultime de leur set : un Rather Be qui a fait l'unanimité auprès d'un public déchaîné ! Habile transition, car la jeune chanteuse Jess Glynne, révélée justement par la dernière chanson de ses acolytes Clean Bandit, a profité de ce moment pour se lancer à son tour ! Don't Be So Hard On Yourself, Gave Me Something, My Love, Hold My Hand... Jess Glynne nous régale et livre des performances dignes de ce nom. Très proche de son public, la jeune chanteuse britannique n'hésite pas à se confier et à remercier ses fans qui la font tant voyager. Avec grand plaisir !

Après ces deux sets de folie, la tension n'est même pas retombée que Wiz Khalifa(qui d'ailleurs a bien profité de Malte avant son concert) est arrivé sur scène ! Occupant tout l'espace qui lui est accordé, le jeune rappeur américain invite son public a se déchaîner avec lui sur chacun de ses sons. Et celui-ci le lui a bien rendu ! Que ce soit sur We Dem Boyz ou bien encore Work Hard Play Hard, les paroles résonnent dans toute la scène de Floriana. Et parce que cela ne suffit pas, le public n'a pas hésité à remplacer allègrement Charlie Puth dès lors que les premières notes de See You Again avaient commencé ! Beaucoup trop court pour nous malheureusement, le set de Wiz Khalifa nous aura quand même bien éclaté tant le rappeur nous faisait sauter partout ! Et parce que le festival ne pouvait s'arrêter là, le DJ Steve Aoki a continué de plus belle en lançant ses plus gros morceaux ! Nous étions parmi les privilégiés à assister hier soir à l’Isle of MTV. Le concert qui fête ses 10 ans accueille chaque année au ilFosos Square de Floriana à Malte quelques 50 000 spectateurs venus des quatre coins du globe. A l’affiche de cette édition 2016 : le rappeur Wiz Khalifa, le DJ Steve Aoki, la chanteuse Jess Glynne et le groupe Clean Bandit. Que du beau monde !

Place aux artistes 19h45. Clean Bandit a la lourde tache d’ouvrir le bal. Le groupe britannique formé en 2009 se compose Jack Patterson, Luke Patterson, Grace Chatto, and Neil Amin-Smith. Ils sont suivis une heure plus tard par la flamboyante Jess Glynne, avec qui ils ont déjà collaboré sur le tube planétaire Rather be (mais si, vous connaissez !) Actuellement en pleine tournée, la jeune femme qui a avoué lors de la conférence de presse rêver de travailler avec Beyoncé rend notamment hommage à son Angleterre natale avec son titre Home.

C’est au tour de Wiz Khalifa de monter sur scène. Celui qui s’impose comme LA star de la soirée reprend ses tubes les plus connus, dont Work hard play hard et See you again, chanson hommage au regretté Paul Walker, mais aussi des nouveautés. Un vrai showman américain qui ne fait qu’une seule voix avec son public.

Il est près de 23h quand Steve Aoki arrive. Malgré l’heure tardive et les premiers spectateurs qui commencent à partir, la foule reste déchainée. Il faut dire qu’il y a de quoi face à l’infatigable DJ, qui clôt la soirée comme elle a commencé : en beauté.

Et vous l’aviez sûrement senti lorsque nous vous dévoilions il y a quelques jours la programmation du festival, dont nous avions tout particulièrement hâte de découvrir le set de Jess Glynne. L'évènement vient tout juste de se terminer et nous pouvons vous le confirmer : oui, c’était à la hauteur de nos attentes ! La jeune chanteuse britannique révélée il y a seulement 2 ans, a su tenir la scène et animer son public maltais d'une main de maître. Malicieuse et audacieuse, Jess Glynne a enchaîné tube sur tube tout au long de la soirée.

C'est à la fin du set de Clean Bandit et le magnifique Rather Be que Jess Glynne a choisi pour faire son entrée sur scène. Bonne transition ! La jeune chanteuse saisit l'occasion et démarre en trombe : un petit Don't Be So Hard On Yourself suffit à conquérir un public déjà en transe, qui l'accompagne à chacune de ses paroles. Les tubes s'enchaînent à une vitesse incroyable : de Gave Me Something à My Love, en passant par Hold My Hand, Jess Glynne a su se montrer plus que généreuse pour un public venu des quatre coins de l'Europe. N'hésitant pas à se confier à la foule, la chanteuse a partagé ses émotions et son énergie à travers chacune de ses chansons. Pour sa première fois à Malte, Jess Glynne a réussi à mettre le feu ! As many as 70,000 music fans enjoyed Tuesday night's spectacular Isle of MTV concert in Malta.

The 10th anniversary show at the Granaries in Floriana featured Grammy award winner Jess Glynne, rapper Wiz Khalifa, Clean Bandit and DJ Steve Aoki.

Malta's tourism minister described the extravaganza as 'awesome, fantastic and safe.'

Hundreds of fans took to social media to post selfies and snaps from the concert, which featured 89.7 Bay presenters Daniel Testa, Ian Lang and Ylenia.

Anastasia North, who traveled from Poland to see the show, tweeted: 'Wiz Khalifa, Jess Glynne, and the amazing Steve Aoki, who literally blew my mind with his music! One of the best days of my life. Love you Malta.'

Andy Hobson commented: 'What a great night out.'

Kimberly Farrugia said: 'I wish i could sing on that amazing stage it would be a dream come true.'

Leanne Carabott added: 'Another incredible and unforgettable night.'

Stephanie Dalli commented: 'OMG the best show ever in Malta. Jess Glynne really can sing. Awesome.'

Isle of MTV boss Russell Samuels told 89.7 Bay: 'Isle of MTV Malta is now one of our longest-running events and the key to its success is consistency and evolution.

'Music fans always know they're going to experience an excellent festival.'

Malta's tourism minister Edward Zammit Lewis said Isle of MTV had become an important date in the Maltese calendar of events.

He told 89.7 Bay: 'Over the 10 years that Isle of MTV has been held in Malta, the number of visitors to the island aged between 16 and 24 has more than doubled.

'This year, we carefully planned our advertising campaign to really promote Malta as a great summer destination.

'Events like these give Malta a formidable platform to promotes itself in markets that we normally wouldn't have the budget for.'

Special buses ran after the concert to help music fans get home safely.

Malta Police said they made 11 arrests during the concert after discovering small amounts of cannabis.

The annual Isle of MTV music event entertaining some 50,000 music lovers and transforming the Floriana Granaries into a vibrant festival.

The free live music concert featured British singer-songwriter and Grammy award winner Jess Glynne, US rapper Wiz Khalifa, UK electronic group Clean Bandit and electro-house superstar DJ Steve Aoki, who closed the event with his signature electronic beats.

In a bid to ensure safety, organisers had previously announced a list of prohibited items for the concert at the Floriana Granaries. These include glass bottles, pointed instruments, drones, fireworks, flagpoles, laser pointers and professional recording equipment. Specific entry points to the square were also set up with bag searches carried out on entry. No major incidents were reported on the evening.

Clean Bandit, led by Grace Chatto, is a breakthrough act founded in Cambridge in 2009 which describe themselves as “an energetic and fun performance”. The electronic band mixes acoustic instruments with electronic beats and regularly features popular singers such as Florence Rawlings and Elisabeth Troy.

Rapper Wiz Khalifa used Malta as the launching pad of his European tour, and treated the large crowd to a variety of his chart toppers as well as his lesser known newer releases. Straight after it was Jess Glynn, the Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter fresh from a performance at the world-famous Glastonbury Music Festival, where she performed on the Pyramid Stage. In her first visit to Malta, she yesterday performed with a full band.

Finally, Steve Aoki, arguably the event’s headline event, recently named one of the world’s top 10 DJs by DJ Mag, saw the evening to a close.

A number of songs played by Aoki had their televised debut in Malta.

Also performing at the after-party at Gianpula – his team placed an order for some 20 cakes, with a six-page requirement list to ensure the cakes were sufficient for their intended purpose.

“Everyone should get caked in the face at least once in their lives,” he said at a press conference this afternoon, leaving little doubt as to what that might be. “You need the right cake: it has to be soft, explosive, spongy and gooey.”

Speaking to Global’s Kevin Hughes at Isle Of MTV, Clean Bandit’s Grace Chatto revealed, “We’ve been making a song with Labrinth which is really exciting because we have always been massive fans of his work.

“And recently we’ve been writing a few songs with Elton John who I met at the Ivor Novellos last year and he sang ‘Rather Be’ to me and so I was like ‘Maybe we should make something together’.

“At that time, Jack and I had been listening to one of his early albums while we were on tour in America and getting obsessed with it so it was a bit of a coincidence that we bumped into him and that happened. We have done a few experiments and they’re not finished yet so I don’t really know which one will come out but it’s really exciting and he’s just incredible so I hope his voice will be on there.”

The tie die ensemble went up like a parachute, fully exposing the babe’s knickers as she tried to keep the garment under control.

The smile soon faded from her face as the cringe factor took over, prompting the star to coverher face with her hand and dash away from photographers.

She later shared a selfie from the day on Instagram, although made sure to take it from the waist up to avoid any further mishaps.

I've lost count how many tattoos I've had but once I'm completely covered I'll just go back and get them touched up.''

The 28-year-old singer has even started coating his face in black ink and has got his three-year-old son Sebastian's nickname 'Bash' etched across his forehead.

And, although he won't stop getting tattoos, Wiz has admitted he'd be devastated if little Sebastian, who he has with his ex-wife Amber Rose, followed in his footsteps and developed an addiction to ink.

However, Steve has a strict criteria when it comes to memorable stunt.

Singer Wiz Khalifa - currently in Malta for the Isle of MTV show - lived up to his reputation when he posted a picture of himself at the Blue Lagoon with the caption "I smoked a joint in Blue Lagoon today".

It is not known if he faces police action.

Earlier this month, 26 people were arrested at the Earth Garden festival in Ta' Qali when they were found in possession of what was thought to be cannabis .

Wiz Khalifa has reportedly always been attached to weed. He even claimed that he is spending about $10,000 monthly to fund his drug habits.

Once asked by MTV if he thinks marijuana should be legalized, he had said: “Definitely, legalise it. Please, everybody needs it.

The world would be a better place.”

Wiz’s biggest hit to date, the 2015 global smash See You Again, was the lead single from theFast & Furious 7 soundtrack and hit the top spot on charts across 95 countries. His sixth studio album Khalifa was released last February.

He will be performing at the annual event on the Floriana granaries tomorrow.

Security at this year’s Isle of MTV has been stepped up because of the general security situation around the world, according to tourism minister Edward Zammit Lewis.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s concert, the minister said: “While safety has always been a priority, of course we are part of Europe and the Mediterranean, and what happens in other countries is of great concern”.

Organisers have announced a list of prohibited items for the concert at the Floriana Granaries – including glass bottles, pointed instruments, drones, fireworks, flagpoles, laser pointers and professional recording equipment – as well as specific entry points to, with searches carried out on entry.

Meanwhile, Russell Samuel, VP Creative & Planning Services for organisers Viacom said the beauty of Malta and the strong relationship with the local authorities had helped to establish Isle of MTV as one of the company’s “longest running tentpole events anywhere in the world”.

He added that this year’s event would deliver the same great product music lovers have enjoyed over the last 10 years while also innovating with live streaming of the concert on the MTV website, and integration with social media including Snapchat.

Isle of MTV Malta takes place tomorrow from 6pm, with gates opening at 3pm. The free live music concert will feature British singer-songwriter and Grammy award winner Jess Glynne, rapper Wiz Khalifa, UK electronic group Clean Bandit and electrohouse superstar DJ Steve Aoki, who will be closing the concert.

Wiz Khalifa Controversy Dr Zammit Lewis also responded to controversy around Wiz Khalifa, who since has arrival has shared several photos of himself smoking what appeared to be cannabis at various locations around Malta.

The issue was widely discussed on social media, with some criticising the musician’s behaviour and others pointing to a perceived double standard were he not to be investigated.

Asked about the issue, Dr Zammit Lewis said: “These artists often have their own style. We welcome Wiz Khalifa to Malta. This is a free country, but there are local laws and we expect all visitors to adhere to those laws”.

There are no repercussions for rap star Wiz Khalifa after he boasted about smoking cannabis freely and openly both on and off camera, and this in spite the Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis saying yesterday that any visitor to the country must abide by the rules.

Asked specifically about the controversy sparked by photos on the app Snapchat with the caption "I smoked a joint in Blue Lagoon today", the rapper said that he is aware of the controversy and when asked by local media whether there have been any repercussions he simply answered, "Nope."

During his brief interview with MTV Host, Becca Dudley, Wiz Khalifa said that he has seen the Blue Lagoon describing it as 'tight' and he looks forward to seeing a number of antics he has grown used to while touring the world. He also said that he will be at the after-party, which will feature headliner Steve Aoki.

He is most known for his song 'Black and Yellow', which topped the Billboard Charts in 2010 and his collaboration with Charlie Puth resulting in the song 'See You Again' from the Furious 7 soundtrack. The latter spent 12 non-consecutive weeks at the top of the US Billboard charts and is his biggest single to date. He will also be releasing a song for the soundtrack of the upcoming villain movie, Suicide Squad.

Singer Jess Glynne wrote a cryptic Tweet about her experience in Malta last night and fans are freaking out.

"If there's one thing I believe in.. It's karma. To the people who did what they did today in Malta.. Read up on karma��," she wrote, adding the middle finger emoji for full effect.

Fans rushed to show the singer support but none of them seemed to know what she was talking about.

Jess Glynne performed in Malta earlier this week at the 10th edition of Isle of MTV. The 'Rather Be' singer performed to a crowd of around 50,000 people, sharing a stage with Wiz Khalifa, Clean Bandit and Steve Aoki.

At the pre-show press conference, Ms Glynne was asked whether there were any questions that piss her off.

"Nothing really pisses me off honestly, I'm quite chilled," she said, after joking about people referencing her song by asking her: "Where would you rather be?"
