MTV has announced a four-year extension to its partnership with the Malta Tourism Authority for the annual Isle Of MTV Malta festival. Now in its 11th year, the free open-air extravaganza will return to Il Fosos Square on June 27, 2017. “We’re thrilled to be back in Malta for the 11th edition of Isle of MTV Malta. The past 10 years have seen the island provide the perfect setting for our biggest summer music festival and we look forward to building on what has proven to be an extremely successful partnership with our friends at the Malta Tourism Authority," said Russell Samuel, VP, creative planning services, Viacom Velocity. Thousands of us flock to Malta every year and it’s not hard to work out why. This little archipelago between Sicily and North Africa boasts 300 days of guaranteed sunshine, unspoiled coastlines and a 7,000-year history that’s created a colourful collage of cultures. It’s lured Hollywood here too, as the driver of our water taxi taking us across capital Valletta’s grand harbour proudly demonstrated. After hitching up his oars, he whipped out a photo. “That’s me and Brad Pitt ,” he beamed. “Very nice man.” It turned out he’d been an extra in Troy and had presumably tucked his mobile under his costume in readiness for a quick selfie. The islands have doubled for an amazing variety of locations on the big and small screen – from ancient Rome to 19th century Marseille and 1960s Beirut. Directors Steven Spielberg , Ridley Scott and Guy Ritchie, as well as celebrities including Russell Crowe, Brad Pitt, Sharon Stone, Madonna and Sean Connery , have all made movies here. From Gladiator, The Count of Monte Cristo to Troy and Munich, the little isle has played a big role. Since 800BC it’s changed from one conqueror to another, from Phoenicians, Carthaginians and Romans, to the Arabs, Knights of St John, French and British. Now there’s another louder, younger crowd claiming it as their own – we had flown here not only to soak up the sun but also the sounds of the Isle of MTV festival. Held since 2007, the annual Isle of MTV is now well established as one of Europe’s biggest music festivals. Imagine Ibiza mixed with Glastonbury – on a smaller scale but mud-free (and free to enter). Malta has become a hub for the clubbing scene, with internationally renowned DJs such as Paul Oakenfold, Erick Morillo and Tiesto appearing for guest weekends. Hardcore clubbers head to Paceville, on the coast near St Julians, and the island’s party capital is packed with clubs and bars. We built up to the big event by relaxing at the smart four-star Seashells Resort in Qawra.

It has three pools, one of which is child-free, so the perfect haven to soothe away a hangover. And laidback but glamorous Cafe Del Mar, a stroll away, offers seafood such as calamari tossed with chilli, and pan-fried sea bass, plus a cocktail list to keep the most hedonistic party goer happy. It’s the ideal place to spend a lazy day – enjoy its infinity pool for free, or pop in for a sundowner on the terrace. Too full to pound the historic streets of Malta’s famous three cities – Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua – we opted to join a Rolling Geeks tour. It’s a self-drive electric car that looks a bit like a golf buggy with a GPS system. It not only saved our feet – it also explained in detail what we were looking at. We started by enviously eyeing the yachts in the marina and with each turn of the wheel, our “talking” car chatted to us about the sights we passed.

After the tour we hopped on a bus to Marsaxlokk, one of the prettiest fishing villages on the island. Small boats, painted in vivid colours of red, yellow, green and blue, float gracefully on the calm waters. There is a fish market in the morning where fishermen’s wives sell the catch of the day to locals and tourists. A short ride away is the Blue Grotto, a system of caverns where the underwater flora shimmers. But the real gem was Valletta’s Upper Barrakka Gardens, which fill a strategic corner of the city’s fortifications. It is a top spot to soak up the sun while taking in the stunning views over the harbour, as well as the magnificent palaces and churches. Back on Republic Street, Valletta’s main thoroughfare, we strolled past mansions and monuments, stepping into the most significant – St John’s Co-Cathedral – to admire Caravaggio’s famous painting, The Beheading of St John in the Oratory. Just a stone’s throw away is the Grand Master’s Palace, once the power base for the Mediterranean and now the office of Malta’s president. All that sightseeing made us peckish, and tucked away down a narrow side street we found Trabuxu and grabbed a table under the quirky artwork. The tiny bistro is perfect for a mid-afternoon refuelling pit-stop or dining out in the evening with a mouthwatering but well-priced menu. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle a great way to escape is to take a boat trip. We were lucky enough to get on board a fabulous Sunseeker yacht, though similar tours to the iconic crystal clear Blue Lagoon swimming spot can be booked at the hotel. We dived in and out of the water all afternoon, then lounged on the deck soaking up the rays. Nicely chilled out, we were ready to join the 50,000-plus revellers to celebrate the 10th birthday of the Isle of MTV Festival. As the sun dipped, lasers pierced the night and the stage came alive with Jess Glynne, Clean Bandit, rapper Wiz Khalifa and DJ Steve Aoki – Malta truly rocks!

Any holiday that starts with a tour of the Three Cities, including some of the filming locations for Gladiator, and ends raving to Steve Aoki in Gianpula — a bar without a roof — is bound to get party people rushing for tickets. We began our Three Cities exploration, a look around Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua, with a Rolling Geeks tour and the chance to drive an electric buggy around the first. The backdrop was a history commentary and waves of friendly locals. To cool down, visitors often enjoy a harbour tour with A&S Water Taxis around midday, when the cannon is fired. The colourful fishing boats-turned-taxis have a long history and belong to an area swimming in good seafood restaurants. And most of the daytime was spent on the water and lounging around areas such as the Blue Grotto sea cave. When the sun goes down, the idyllic pace of towns such as Marsaxlokk are forgotten and it’s time to hit the clubs — and this is where Malta is clearly making its mark in Europe. As part of the week-long Isle of MTV free festival we headed to Aria for a night of deep house and tropical music with Dutch DJ and producer Sam Feldt.

With a knee-deep pool on the dance floor and a super exclusive VIP area, this is one of the bigger clubs in the country and it’s fast earning its hip reputation. After a crazy night of fireworks and wine it would be tempting to sleep in the next day but there was a great reason to drag ourselves out of bed — and it wasn’t just the all-inclusive breakfast at the resort. Another life goal was completed on our own mini party aboard the Sunseekers chartered yacht Predator 57 as we made our way to the fantastic mini islands of Gozo to join the other party-goers around the Blue Lagoon. We may not have spotted the elusive Wiz Khalifa and his crew but we did get a chance to slip on bikinis and join the amazing atmosphere of hot swimmers in the Med.

There are plenty of party boats to join and if Gozo is too far then there are lots of companies in St Julian’s to hook you up. This is also the area for cheap parties, delicious food and celeb spotting — everyone from Madonna to Susan Boyle has been papped in the small town. As the sun came up we were treated to another dose of Maltese culture with a whirlwind walk of capital Valetta, with such gems as the Upper Barrakka Gardens and the Grandmaster’s Palace. You would have thought the endless sunshine and partying would have worn out even the most hardcore music and party fans but the entire trip was gearing up to the final night. The buzz of the Isle of MTV comes from being one in thousands singing along with Jess Glynne and dancing in confetti cannons. Honestly, I know am not the only one who would have been happy to up sticks to Malta, sit in the sun all day and party at night. One thing I can guarantee you is that next year I will be back in that crowd — and I bet I run into some familiar faces.

L’arcipelago maltese, composto da tre isole, Malta, Gozo e Comino, è una meta turistica adatta alle coppie ed alle famiglie ma sono sopratutto i giovani, che restano affascinati dalla vita notturnadi questa splendida destinazione. Sempre più persone, grazie ai nuovi collegamenti aerei e alle offerte low cost, scelgono di passare anche solo un weekend a Malta, attratti soprattutto da costi accessibili rispetto ad altre rinomate località del Mediterraneo e con un’offerta sempre più variegata. Consigliamo anche gli spettacoli che si svolgono presso il centro creativo di St. James Cavalier: proiezioni cinematografiche, rappresentazioni teatrali e performance musicali. Non possiamo non dare la giusta attenzione ad uno dei luoghi più cool e di tendenza della capitale: il lungomare di Valletta, in inglese Valletta Waterfront. Situato nella parte occidentale della città, è il più grande porto naturale d’Europa. Gli edifici che all’epoca dei Cavalieri venivano adibiti a scarico e ispezione merci, oggi sono stati interamente ristrutturati, rendendo questa zona una tappa obbligata dove passeggiare o prendere un caffè. Ma ce n’è per tutti i gusti! Per coloro che sono alla ricerca di una serata rilassante all’insegna del buon cibo e del divertimento, i tanti ristoranti e bar sul waterfront presentano una ricca scelta, con la possibilità di cenare all’aperto vicino alla riva. Il lungomare è spesso usato come location per concerti all’aperto, come il Jazz Festival ed altri interessanti eventi culturali. Ma non solo… è infatti anche un centro di trasporti molto frequentato, offre taxi su acqua, tour sulla tradizionale barca maltese e soprattutto un terminal di navi da crociera. La maggior parte della vita maltese è concentrata a St. Julian’s, in particolar modo nel quartiere di Paceville. Sorta da un tranquillo villaggio di pescatori e situata nella costa orientale dell’isola di Malta, a nord de La Valletta, St. Julian’s, prende il nome dal patrono San Giuliano al quale è dedicata l’omonima chiesetta risalente al periodo romano. Oggi è considerata il cuore pulsante e capitale della cultura e del divertimento. Il divertimento a Malta non si ferma a Saint Julian’s. Seppur di tutt’altra natura, anche l’isola di Gozo propone delle alternative interessanti. Le serate estive sono movimentate dalle feste religiose che si tengono nei villaggi: fuochi d’artificio, cibo e divertimento sono parti integranti di questo fenomeno culturale. Mentre nel nord dell’isola, da non perdere una visita alla baia di Mellieha, piccolo villaggio fortificato dai Cavalieri Templari, dove potrete godere delle più belle spiagge di Gozo che di notte diventano scenario di una romantica movida, più rilassata e coinvolgente, fatta di falò sulla spiaggia e lunghi party notturni

http://www.travellab.nl/38-uur-malta/ Als je ons volgt op Instagram, heb je vast wel gezien dat ik laatst voor een super snelle flashtrip naar Malta ben gevlogen. Travellab was uitgenodigd om de 11e editie van Isle of MTV mee te maken en daar had ik wel zin in! Dit jaarlijkse evenement werd namelijk afgesloten door niemand minder dan The Chainsmokers, een van m’n favoriete dj’s. Daarnaast is Malta ook een prachtig eiland om op rond te slenteren en waar ik ook een paar uurtjes de tijd voor had. Ik had natuurlijk de camera mee op zak om mijn bezoek op Malta vast te leggen en ik laat je het allemaal in dit artikel zien!

Bezoek Isle of MTV Ik begin dit artikel met Isle of MTV, want daarom was ik in eerste instantie naar Malta gevlogen én het is ook meteen mijn eerste tip voor een bezoek aan Malta! Isle of MTV is namelijk een van de evenementen waar Malta bekend om staat. Het is een mega groot muziekfestijn dat jaarlijks terugkeert op dit eiland en dit jaar was het alweer de 11e editie van dit gratis evenement dat gehouden wordt op het Fosos Square. Dit jaar waren er nog iets meer bezoekers, namelijk ruim 50.000 en was het weer echt een super groot feest. Tijdens elke editie worden er wereldsterren uitgenodigd die een top optreden verzorgen en dit jaar bestond de line-up uit Jonas Blue, Raye, DNCE en The Chainsmokers.

Fosos Square is een groot plein, waardoor je tijdens Isle of MTV ook echt onder de sterren staat te feesten. Het podium is altijd heel tof opgebouwd en voorzien van grote beeldschermen waardoor het een kleurrijk zicht is. Het zicht van het podium in combinatie met glitters die de lucht in worden geschoten, de maan ĂŠn de sterren is wat dit feest echt iets speciaals geeft. En het is ook onwijs lekker om gewoon in de open lucht naar de optredens te kijken en op te dansen, terwijl de temperatuur super aangenaam en prettig is. De meeste bezoekers van Isle of MTV zijn Maltezen, maar uiteraard komen er ook heel wat toeristen op af â&#x20AC;&#x201C; zoals ik! Mocht je na het lezen van dit artikel ook enthousiast geworden zijn over Malta, denk er dan zeker over na om je bezoek te plannen rondom Isle of MTV zodat je dit evenement ook kunt meemaken. Het is echt een aanrader! Naast een avond lekker gefeest te hebben, heb ik ook nog een gedeelte van Malta kunnen ontdekken en heb ik leuke tips voor je verzameld. Komen ze aan!

Malta is perfect voor slenteren Ik ben dol op steden en plekjes die je te voet kunt ontdekken. Ik vind het een heel fijn gevoel als je gewoon lekker op je gemakje kunt rondslenteren en op jouw eigen tempo de stad kunt ontdekken. En dat is precies wat heel goed kan op Malta! Er zijn op Malta verschillende steden en plekken waar je terecht kunt voor een prachtige omgeving en mooie attracties, maar tijdens deze trip heb ik me alleen gefocust op Valletta. Dit is de hoofdstad van het eiland en daarmee dan ook een van de bekendste plekken op Malta. Mocht je ook een trip naar Malta naartoe boeken, dan zal je hier hoogstwaarschijnlijk ook minimaal een dag doorbrengen.

De stad staat sinds 1980 op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO en hier vind je dan ook prachtige straatjes en gebouwen die gemaakt zijn van kalksteen. In het centrum van Valletta wonen slechts 7.000 inwoners, wat deze hoofdstad de kleinste van heel Europa maakt. In totaal beslaat Valletta namelijk een oppervlakte van zoâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;n 2 bij ruim 1 kilometer wat betekent de stad lekker compact is waardoor je er zo goed kunt rondlopen. Wel moet je zeker rekening houden met wat hoogteverschillen in de stad, waardoor je wel goed op de been moet zijn. Ik droeg zelf die dag platte sandalen, maar op de afgesleten kalkstenen wilde ik soms toch nog wel eens uitglijden. Goede wandelschoenen, sneakers of sandalen zonder gladde zolen zijn daarom wel echt een must!

Wat wel handig is aan de hoogteverschillen, is dat je hierdoor op verschillende locaties in de stad fantastisch uitzicht hebt op de rest van het eiland! Zo heb ik bijvoorbeeld aan twee kanten van de stad het uitzicht bekeken, hierboven zie je een uitkijkpunt vanaf de Upper Barrakka Gardens aan de straat Triq Santâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; Orsla. Dit ligt vlakbij het begin van de stad en hier zal je hoogstwaarschijnlijk afgezet worden door de taxi. Dus perfect om hier je dag in de stad te beginnen! De Upper Barrakka Gardens is een openbare tuin op 60 meter hoogte, waar je mooi uitzicht hebt over Valletta zelf, de haven en ook de Three Cities aan de overkant. In de tuin staan bankjes, monumenten en er is ook een klein stalletje aanwezig waar je drinken en snacks kunt kopen.

Hierna slenter je door de vele straatjes, eet je een lekkere lunch (hierover straks meer!) en natuurlijk een ijsje en kan je aan de hele andere kant bij de straat Triq Marsamxett ook een soort pleintje met bankjes vinden waar je even kunt uitpuffen. Ook vanaf hier heb je weer een prachtig uitzicht op de zee en aan de andere kant de stad Sliema. Aan deze kant van het eiland kan je namelijk een ferry nemen, die je naar Sliema brengt. Sliema wordt gezien als het minst mooie en commerciĂŤle gedeelte van Malta, maar mocht je lekker willen shoppen dan hebben ze hier wel de bekende ketens zoals Mango en Zara. Hey, ook niet onbelangrijk om te weten toch?

Lounge in een van de vele (beach)clubs Op onze eerste avond zijn we direct van het vliegveld naar een van de vele beachclubs gereden. Het is hier in de avond rond deze periode namelijk nog heerlijk warm en ook in de avond dus echt genieten. Op Malta zijn er tientallen hippe beachclubs waar je terecht kunt voor een gezellige lounge avond met drankjes en muziek voor het echte uitgaansgevoel.

Wij hebben op de eerste avond Medasia bezocht wat een ruim opgezette beachclub is en waar je ook nog fijn kan dineren. Je hebt vanaf hier een prachtig en direct uitzicht op de zee en mocht je verkoeling zoeken dan zijn er ook twee zwembaden waarvan eentje met uitzicht op de zee! Na Isle of MTV zijn we naar de club Uno Village gegaan voor de after party. Ook deze club zag er heel hip uit en door de hoeveelheid (bananen)bomen en planten kreeg je echt zo’n verborgen treasure gevoel. In het midden was de dansvloer met daarvoor de dj-booth en hier ging het aardig los. Vanaf de zijkanten kon je hier goed op neerkijken om lekker mensen te kijken, wat natuurlijk altijd leuk is om te doen #guiltypleasure.

Hotspots in Valetta! Ik ben een keer eerder op Malta geweest en ik moet eerlijk toegeven dat ik Malta niet een van de hipste eilanden vond. Het is er echt prachtig en er is enorm veel moois te zien, maar echt on trend ziet het er niet uit. En begrijp me niet verkeerd, want dat is ook helemaal niet erg, máár ik zou niet bij Team Travellab horen als ik niet zou proberen om die hippe vibe toch te ontdekken natuurlijk! Dus voordat ik op reis ging heb ik alvast op internet naar tips en hotspots gezocht en deze bleken best wel lastig te vinden. “Ai, dat wordt pittig!” dacht ik nog, maar al snel ontspande ik bij de gedachte dat ik gewoon lekker in m’n uppie zou gaan rondslenteren (voor het eerst!) en dat ik vanzelf wel wat leuks zou tegenkomen. En guess what?! Ik heb een drietal leuke én hippe én gezonde hotspots gevonden die ik natuurlijk maar al te graag hier deel!

Omdat ik tijdens deze trip niet heel veel tijd had en weer op tijd in het hotel moest zijn voor het feest Isle of MTV die avond, had ik besloten om alleen in Valletta rond te slenteren. De hotspots die ik hier deel, heb ik daarom dan ook alleen hier gevonden, maar aangezien Valletta waarschijnlijk wel op je to do list staat wanneer je naar Malta gaat moet dat geen probleem zijn denk ik

Vanwege de hitte had ik niet zo’n zin in een heftige lunch en ging ik op zoek naar een gezond alternatief. En daar zit je bij No. 43 aan het juiste adres! Hier stond een aardig rijtje met klanten te wachten voor een lekkere kom salade die je zelf kunt laten samenstellen en ik sloot gezellig aan in de rij. Er is keuze uit heel wat verschillende ingrediënten dus er zit voor iedereen wel wat tussen – zelfs voor mij als moeilijke eter. Eenmaal samengesteld bestelde ik er nog een flesje water bij en mocht ik aan tafel plaatsnemen of je neemt het to go. Aan tafel kreeg ook nog wat brood met dip erbij en een citroentje voor in het water en heb ik heerlijk in de schaduw op het terras gezeten. Ik wil trouwens ook even benadrukken dat het personeel heel vriendelijk was! Ik betaalde in totaal €7,50 (€1,50 voor het water en €6,00 voor de salade) en ik vond dat helemaal prima geprijsd, want het was super lekker, daarnaast was de portie genoeg voor twee personen en zit je bij No. 43 niet te vergeten ook middenin het centrum. Ik vond dit echt een aanrader!

No. 43 / 43 Merchants Street, Valletta, Malta / Instagram Ik zou Larissa niet zijn, als ik niet ook nog zin had in een soort van toetje. Ik ben na de lunch daarom rustig verder gaan slenteren en kwam Theobroma Raw Cacao Collective tegen. Een hele mond vol voor een piepklein zaakje waar je eigenlijk al snel voorbij zou lopen. Hier kan je terecht voor je chocolade-fix maar dan wel op een super healthy manier! Hier worden de beste ingrediënten gebruikt en ook zoveel mogelijk raw. Ook is alles 100% vegan en vrij van gluten. Omdat het zo ontzettend warm was, heb ik de heerlijke chocolade-repen, bars en andere zoetigheden laten staan en heb ik gekozen voor een iced Chai Tea Latte. Jum en dorstlessender dan ik had verwacht!

Theobroma Raw Cacao Collective / 123, Old Theatre Street, Il-Belt Valletta, Malta / Instagram In eerste instantie wilde ik graag bij The Grassy Hopper eten, want buiten op de kaart stonden wat specials uitgelicht die ontzettend lekker klonken. Bij The Grassy Hopper vind je gezonde vegan en vegetarische opties en ik merk dat ik daar tijdens hete dagen gewoon net wat meer trek in heb! Maar ik was niet de enige die er zo over dacht, want het zat helaas net iets te vol voor nog een hongerige klant haha. The Grassy Hopper is namelijk best wel aan de kleine kant en biedt enkele tafeltjes, maar ik denk dat je je eten ook to-go zou kunnen nemen. Als ik de recensies moet geloven biedt The Grassy Hopper heerlijke zoete en hartige opties en zou je de kikkerewrtenburger, wraps en salades echt eens moeten proberen. Een overnachting in Radisson Blu Bij deze perstrip zat ook een overnachting in het prachtige Radisson Blu. Tijdens Isle of MTV wordt er altijd een hotel uitgekozen waar de persconferenties worden gehouden, waar de artiesten overnachten en waar ook de journalisten verblijven. Zoals ik! Ik kwam laat in de avond pas aan en toen ik die ochtend erna wakker werd, werd ik begroet door dit prachtige uitzicht op de zee. Ik ben daarna snel gaan ontbijten en na het ontbijt een wandeling gaan maken over het verblijf. Bij het hotel zitten twee prachtige zwembaden, die geschikt zijn om in te zwemmen, chillen en er zijn ook ondiepere kleine zwembaden voor kids.

Op verschillende plekjes zijn ligbedjes geplaatst waar je heerlijk kunt zonnen, dutten en natuurlijk chillen. Alle bedjes hadden ook een prachtig uitzicht op de zee! Omdat het hotel direct aan de zee ligt, is er ook een plek gemaakt waar je direct de zee in kunt stappen. Super lekker om naast het zwembad ook gebruik te maken van de zee om af te koelen (het kan hier namelijk goed warm worden!) en het water is hier helder blauw dus dat is echt genieten!

The Chainsmokers hebben een primeur! Het Amerikaanse recordbrekende DJ-duo heeft net bekendgemaakt dat zij op dinsdag 27 juni de headliner zijn op de elfde editie van Isle of MTV Malta. Ze gaan de closing set verzorgen van dit jaarlijks terugkerende en vrij toegankelijke muziekevent op het zonovergoten Malta. La presenza del duo di Closer come artisti di punta della manifestazione musicale che si terrà a giugno a Malta è stata annunciata ieri dagli organizzatori del festival. L’Isle of MTV Malta 2017 torna per l’undicesimo anno consecutivo e la data scelta è martedì 27 giugno: i The Chainsmokers si esibiranno in chiusura dell’evento. Entrati nelle classifiche di tutto il mondo nel 2014 con il loro singolo di debutto #Selfie, in pochi anni il duo indie ed elettro-pop, composto da Alez Pall e Drew Taggart, ha ottenuto tre singoli multiplatino e cinque miliardi di streaming, raggiungendo l’apice con la hit Closer, brano che nel 2016 è rimasto più a lungo al numero 1 della classifica Billboard Hot 100. UK Platinum selling artist Raye is set to open this year's Isle of MTV music festival at the Granaries in Floriana. The British singer, 19, will join past collaborator Jonas Blue, along with DNCE and Chainsmokersfor what will be the 11th year of the free music event on June 27. Raye has seen her name in the UK charts multiple times in the last few months, having collaborated with fellow IOMTV performer Jonas Blue on the single 'By Your Side' and with Jax Jones on the hit 'You Don’t Know Me'. I DNCE, la band americana capitanata da Joe Jonas, è arrivata in Italia! Si tratta di una notizia del tutto inaspettata, a maggior ragione che né è previsto alcun concerto della band sul nostro territorio e né siamo in settimana della moda (alla quale Joe partecipa spesso). Con molta probabilità Joe Jonas, JinJoo Lee, Cole Whittle e Jack Lawless hanno semplicemente deciso di rilassarsi per un weekend nel bel paese! E la regione prescelta è stata la Liguria, una delle mete preferite almeno per chi abita in Italia settentrionale per le vacanze estive. A comunicare il loro arrivo, sono stati direttamente i membri della band con degli scatti postati su Instagram. Prima Joe ha pubblicato diverse ore fa un video sulle Instastories in cui inquadra una parte della barca sulla quale ha viaggiato con il suo gruppo da Cannes e la bandiera italiana. Nel video compare anche la caption “Woke up in Italy”. Poi a qualche ora di distanza l’amico Cole ha postato una foto di sé con lo sfondo il litorale ligure geolocalizzandolo a Genova. La programmation a de quoi faire envier n'importe quel organisateur. Ce mardi 27 juin, la ville maltaise de Floriana accueille pour la 11ème fois du concert Isle of MTV à partir de 19h45. L'évènement sera l'occasion pour le public présent d'assister aux performances d'artistes à la renommée internationale. Lancé en 2002, Isle of MTV est l'un des plus grands festivals de musique en Europe. Plusieurs villes comme Lisbonne (Portugal), Trieste (Italie) ou encore Six-Fours-les-Plages (France) ont eu la chance d'être choisies pour accueillir le show. Depuis 2007, Isle of MTV a posé ses valises à Malte et a vu de nombreux artistes de renoms faire le déplacement. Petite liste non-exhaustive : David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Lady Gaga, Wiz Khalifa, Maroon 5 ou encore Snoop Dog sont passés par le festival. Cette édition 2017 n'aura rien à envier aux précédentes, avec des artistes à la renommée internationale. Véritable révélation de l'année 2016, The Chainsmokers sera présent pour le concert du 27 juin. Le duo américain composé d'Andrew Taggart et Alex Pall s'est fait connaître du grand public avec son titre Closer. Le clip du morceau a à ce jour été visionné plus d'1,6 milliard de fois sur Youtube. The Chainsmokers ne s'est pas arrêté là, et a continué de sortir des titres à succès, toujours aux sonorités électroniques accrocheuses. Dernièrement, ils ont collaboré avec Coldplay sur Something Just Like This, présent sur leur premier album Memories... Do not open. On y retrouve également Paris, l'un des premiers singles dévoilés au public. Isle of MTV Malta 2017 accueille également le DJ anglais Jonas Blue. Âgé de 27 ans, il a vu sa popularité exploser suite à la sortie en décembre 2015 de Fast Car, en featuring avec Dakota. Il a depuis pris l'habitude de proposer des collaborations

Â seulement 19 ans, cette dernière est le nouveau phénomène de la pop britannique et sera également présente sur la scène du Isle of MTV Malta 2017. Enfin, le groupe DNCE sera lui aussi présent à Floriana pour faire bouger le public. The Isle of MTV event is expected to be hosting approximately 50,000 people tomorrow, and will be viewed in over 20 countries, according to Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi. Mizzi was addressing the press on the stage constructed for the 11th Isle of MTV concert tomorrow, which is being held at the granaries Floriana. "Over the past few years, repositioning of tourists has shown that 20% of tourists are under the age of 24," Mizzi said, going on to say that events like Isle of MTV help to make Malta a "fun destination". He said that such a show is the repositioning Malta is required in order make sure that Malta is attractive as a destination. Throughout the conference, the enormity of the virtual audience reached via Isle of MTV's social media use was praised several times. Russell Samuel, the organizer of the event said that via the use of social media and by bringing in the stars, the event brought along with it over 40 million followers, and added that last night's event alone reached six million people. He said that live streaming via Facebook and Snapchat helped to gain that reach. The Chainsmokers, DNCE, DJ Jonas Blue and Raye will be performing on the stage tomorrow, which Mizzi described as a "truly amazing" line-up. 170 police officers will be deployed tomorrow night at the event, along with 300 security guards, said the Tourism Minister. He added that The Malta Tourism Authority donated â&#x201A;Ź20,000 to the Floriana Local Council. Chairman of Malta Tourism Authority Gavin Gulia said that events such as Isle of MTV hellp bring the number of tourists that we are currently bringing to Malta.

Isle of MTV will host 50,000 people and will be viewed in over 20 countries as well as being streamed live on social media. 20% of all tourists visiting Malta were under the age of 24, meaning Malta was proving to be a fresh and vibrant destination, tourism minister Konrad Mizzi said this morning. Mizzi, who was addressing a press conference a day before the Isle of MTV concert to be held at the Granaries in Floriana - the 11th of its kind to be held in Malta - said that such events made it possible for the country to keep attracting record numbers of tourists to its shores. Tomorrow's concert will feature UK platinum selling artist Raye, super-group DNCE, DJ Jonas Blue and the multi-platinum selling duo The Chainsmokers. Mizzi said that the concert, Europe's largest free concert, will host 50,000 people and will be viewed in over 20 countries as well as being streamed live on social media. 170 police officers will be deployed to complement 300 security guards that will be on duty on the night. The Malta Tourism Authority had donated â&#x201A;Ź20,000 to the Floriana local council, he said. Organiser Russell Samuel said the fact that this was the 11th time MTV was organising the concert in Malta was proof of the profile and strength of the event and the partnership with the Maltese authorities. "Last year we streamed the concert live on Facebook and Snapchat, and this year we will continue to build on that success, working with more talent and social influencers, bringing with them more than 40 million followers," he said. Gavin Gulia, chairman of the MTA, said that in the five years at the post, he had seen the event grow year on year. "Without events like these we would not be able to bring the number of tourists we are currently bringing to Malta," he said.

British singer-songwriter Raye, one of last year’s breakout stars, said she had taken to the sea on a jet-ski in an effort to cool down, while DJ Jonas Blue, who collaborated with her on 2016 hit By Your Side was quick to highlight the heat as his most striking impression of Malta so far. “I’d say I’m living the dream if I weren’t stuck in trousers,” he joked. The platinum-selling artist, who has performed in Malta several times before (though he admits he has yet to see much beyond the airport and his hotel), promised audiences an “acoustic, energetic” set at the concert, his first time performing on the island with a full band. Joe Jonas, member of the American dance-rock band DNCE and former 'Jonas Brother' said that what they hope to take from Malta, as a form of souvenir, is 'one of [their] most memorable shows'. In a press conference this morning prior the eleventh edition of Isle of MTV concert, happening tonight, the famous brother was asked what he would take back with him from his stay in Malta. Jonas replied, "it's a tiny island, but there will be 50,000 people at the show tonight, so it's obviously not a tiny crowd. I think it will be exciting for people who don't get to see shows like this quite often. We hope to have a lot of fun and take that energy with us to other shows that we've got." The band told those present that, although their trip is short, they plan to walk around Valletta later today. Songs by DNCE include hits such as 'Toothbrush' and 'Cake by the Ocean'. In 2016, the band won 'Best PUSH Artist' and the 2016 MTV EMAs and 'Best New Artist' at last year's MTV VMAs. The Chainsmokers, DJ Jonas Blue and Raye will also be performing tonight. Jonas Blue, who is also a dj will also be playing a DJ set in Malta following the Isle of MTV performance, and told those present that it is actually not the first time that he has performed a DJ set in Malta many times before. Asked by The Malta Independent whether he has any favourite places here, having visited the island a few times, he said "being a DJ you don't tend to see many places." He said that he has performed at CafĂŠ Del Mar, referring to it as "an incredible gig"". "I could tell you a lot about the airport though!" he said, laughing. The Chainsmokers, who had just landed in Malta and went straight to the press conference, told Dudle that in Malta it "feels like summer". Their short trip here is one stop of many around Europe. After performing at the Fosos this evening, they will be flying to Milan, and then Belgium a few days later. Hits by the band include 'Closer' and '#Selfie'. Commenting on their busy schedule, Dudle asked them what they would do if they had a day off. "I would do nothing," was their reply. Asked by the media if they consider their songs as love songs, the duo replied that a song "can mean a lot of different things to anyone," however they said that they do enjoy writing songs about "small moments in relationships." Tens of thousands of pop fans flocked to Isle of MTV Malta, which was expanded into a week-long festival for the first time. The Chainsmokers, DNCE, Jonas Blue and Raye starred at Europe's largest free music event, held last week in Il Fosos Square. A 60-minute Isle of MTV Malta main show special will broadcast internationally from August 1. The week-long festival - Isle of MTV Malta Music Week - saw the one-off return of 90’s dance show, The Grind. Crowds came together at the island’s party hot spot, Café del Mar for DJ sets from MTV's own Becca Dudley, Rewire & Varski, as well as Denmark’s Martin Jensen, alongside dance-offs from crews from all around Europe. The live stream was hosted by Dudley and co-host, Rio Fredrika. Jensen closed out the show, which streamed live on Isle of MTV Malta’s Facebook page and www.isleofmtv.com. Last year, MTV announced a four-year extension to its partnership with the Malta Tourism Authority for the annual event.

This week I flew to Malta with MTV for the their Isle Of MTV festival. I got asked to go two weeks ago and was like, "Hell yes!" I've been doing a lot of presenting and doing Facebook Lives, which is exactly what I want to do. I loved the presenting so much, but I was watching the other girls interviewing American people and just thought, "They'd never be able to understand my accent!" We have been having a good time as well, don't get me wrong. I've lost my voice from partying. Malta is absolutely beautiful. I was on a yacht in the middle of the sea, interviewing people and then we hired a boat and went out for the day. The final night was huge, there was 60,000 people and DJ's like Jonas Blue and The Chainsmokers. I met Skepta's girlfriend called Maya - she's one of the most beautiful people I've ever seen. She was absolutely stunning, I couldn't stop staring at her. Love Island star Josh Ritchie came out with us, because he's also been on MTV's Ex On The Beach. All the other Geordie Shore lot were so busy, so they got Josh in and I'd never met him before so I didn't know what to expect. But he's a really sound lad - I feel like he's like a brother. He's a lot younger than me, so he's like my little brother but it's been so good that we've all got along. Malta. We love you. 'Til next time.

La band americana vincitrice del Best New Artist Award agli scorsi VMAs era tra gli ospiti più attesi di ieri sera e le aspettative sono state sicuramente superate!Per l’undicesima edizione dell’evento musicale che è svolto nella piazza di Floriana, i DNCE hanno tirato fuori tutta la loro energia per uno show di ben 60 minuti. Sin dal loro singolare ingresso, la folla di ben 60.000 persone li ha sostenuti, e così per tutta la durata del concerto. La band di Joe Jonas è salita sul palco accompagnata dalla musica di Star Wars e inscenando una finta battaglia a colpi di spade laser! Per fortuna la diretta di Facebook di Mtv ha ripreso questo momento epico e ha dato la possibilità a chi non è stato presente all’evento di vivere live l’intro. La prima hit suonata all’Isle of Mtv è stata Naked, nona traccia del primo album dei DNCE a cui ha fatto seguito proprio la canzone che porta lo stesso nome sia della band sia del loro primo album. Les quatre invités du festival Isle of MTV, Raye, Jonas Blue, DNCE et The Chainsmokers, ont enflammé l’île de Malte le temps d’une soirée. melty était in da place et vous raconte ce moment unique! A Malte, on sait s’amuser. Après avoir déjà eu la chance de s’ambiancer l’an dernier avec Wiz Khalifa, Jess Glynne, Clean Bandit et Steve Aoki, on a remis le couvert cette année ! Malgré sa taille, le plus petit pays de l’Union Européenne sait comment nous faire vibrer/dancer/chanter (au choix) et accueille tous les ans dans ses terres le festival Isle of MTV, une semaine dédiée à la musique et qui a reçu cette année les plus grands : Raye, Jonas Blue, DNCE et The Chainsmokers ! Les Maltais, très chaleureux, nous ont invité à une fête exceptionnelle jusqu’au bout de la night, au plus grand plaisir de nos oreilles. 20h pétante, tout commence avec la jeune artiste Raye, l’agréable surprise du festival. La chanteuse britannique débordait d’énergie et a su nous ambiancer au rythme de ses chansons pop. Idem pour le DJ anglais Jonas Blue, qui a continué dans la lancée de sa compatriote pour nous chauffer pile poil ce qu’il fallait avant les deux grosses montures de la soirée : DNCE et The Chainsmokers. Le groupe formé par Joe Jonas était clairement au taquet et avait un seul objectif, comme ils l’ont si bien dit : « Malta, did we come to party tonight ? ». Enflammé par les différents hits du groupe (Kissing Strangers, Body Moves, Good Day…), le public a ovationné le groupe qui le lui a bien rendu avec quelques surprises (des covers de TLC, Spice Girls et même Britney Spears) et un final grandiose sur leur plus grand tube : Cake by the Ocean. Vient le tour du tant attendu duo The Chainsmokers. Et là, on en eu plein les oreilles ! En commençant par un set très électro, Andrew et Alex ont sorti le grand jeu et nous ont offert un enchaînement de sons composé à la fois de leurs propres musiques mais aussi d’autres tubes : on a par exemple reconnu quelques notes de la mythique Selfie sur un fond de Daft Punk, génial ! Andrew prend alors le micro pour nous offrir leurs plus gros tubes : Roses, Break up every night, Paris, Closer…tout en faisant chanter en même temps un public déchaîné. Alors qu’on pense la prestation terminée, le duo repart de plus belle pour notre plus grand plaisir avec Something just like this et Don’t let me down. Beaucoup trop court à notre goût, The Chainsmokers et tous les autres artistes du Isle of MTV nous ont quand même régalé ! The Chainsmokers et DNCE étaient les groupes les plus attendus du festival Isle of MTV qui s’est déroulé hier soir, et une chose est sûre, ils ont su nous ambiancer comme jamais! Découvrez notre live report! Malte est vraiment the place to be lorsque l’été débarque. Après Wiz Khalifa, Jess Glynne, Clean Bandit et Steve Aoki l’an dernier, ce sont cette année Raye, Jonas Blue, DNCE et The Chainsmokers qui se sont relayés le temps d’une soirée pour notre plus grand plaisir. Alors que nous étions surtout impatients de découvrir la setlist des deux groupes américains, nous pouvons maintenant vous le confirmer : c’était oufissime ! DNCE et The Chainsmokers ont su tenir la scène et animer leur public maltais d’une main de maître. C’est ainsi leurs plus grands tubes qui se sont enchaînés les uns après les autres, pour le plus grand bonheur de nos oreilles. Bien déterminé à nous faire danser, le groupe DNCE est arrivé sur scène plus énergique que jamais ! Tout en faisant chanter le public à chacune de leurs chansons, le groupe américain n’a pas arrêté une seule seconde et c’est ainsi tous leurs plus grands tubes qui ont défilé les uns après les autres : Kissing Strangers, Body Moves, Good Day… Avec quelques surprises inattendues (on a entendu des jolies covers de No Scrubs de TLC et de Wannabe des Spices Girls) et des solos de chacun des membres, c’est sur leur plus grand tube Cake by the Ocean que DNCE a clôturé sa performance devant une foule en délire. The Chainsmokers, derniers artistes à se produire de la soirée, ont été ovationnés dès la première note de leur setlist et c’est sur un début de set très électro que nous avons eu le plaisir de danser. Que ce soit avec des remix de leurs propres musiques (on a entendu quelques notes de Selfie par exemple) ou d’autres artistes (Queen, Daft Punk…), on a adoré ! Nous étions bien évidemment là pour entendre leurs plus tubes et nous n’avons pas été déçus ! Roses, Break up every night, Paris, Closer… Tout y était pour nous faire kiffer. Alors que le public en redemande, Andrew et Alex repartent de plus belle et achèvent leur performance avec Something Just Jike This et Don’t Let Me Down, une heure après leur entrée sur scène. Un poil court selon nous, cela ne nous a pas empêché d’être conquis et de repartir sur notre petit nuage ! Ce mardi 27 juin 2017, Malte accueille la 11ème édition du concert "Isle of MTV Malta" : The Chainsmokers, Jonas Blue, DCNE ou encore Raye se sont donnés rendez-vous à Floriana pour enflammer le public. La programmation a de quoi faire envier n'importe quel organisateur. Ce mardi 27 juin, la ville maltaise de Floriana accueille pour la 11ème fois du concert Isle of MTV à partir de 19h45. L'évènement sera l'occasion pour le public présent d'assister aux performances d'artistes à la renommée internationale. Lancé en 2002, Isle of MTV est l'un des plus grands festivals de musique en Europe. Plusieurs villes comme Lisbonne (Portugal), Trieste (Italie) ou encore Six-Fours-les-Plages (France) ont eu la chance d'être choisies pour accueillir le show. Depuis 2007, Isle of MTV a posé ses valises à Malte et a vu de nombreux artistes de renoms faire le déplacement. Petite liste non-exhaustive : David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Lady Gaga, Wiz Khalifa, Maroon 5 ou encore Snoop Dog sont passés par le festival. Cette édition 2017 n'aura rien à envier aux précédentes, avec des artistes à la renommée internationale. Véritable révélation de l'année 2016, The Chainsmokers sera présent pour le concert du 27 juin. Le duo américain composé d'Andrew Taggart et Alex Pall s'est fait connaître du grand public avec son titre Closer. Le clip du morceau a à ce jour été visionné plus d'1,6 milliard de fois sur Youtube. The Chainsmokers ne s'est pas arrêté là, et a continué de sortir des titres à succès, toujours aux sonorités électroniques accrocheuses. Dernièrement, ils ont collaboré avec Coldplay sur Something Just Like This, présent sur leur premier album Memories... Do not open. On y retrouve également Paris, l'un des premiers singles dévoilés au public. Isle of MTV Malta 2017 accueille également le DJ anglais Jonas Blue. gé de 27 ans, il a vu sa popularité exploser suite à la sortie en décembre 2015 de Fast Car, en featuring avec Dakota. Il a depuis pris l'habitude de proposer des collaborations avec d'autres artistes, pour les voix. Bien lui en pris puisque le public a adhéré aux style de Jonas Blue, comme en témoigne le succès de Perfect Strangers, Mama ou encore le titre By Your Side en compagnie de RAYE. seulement 19 ans, cette dernière est le nouveau phénomène de la pop britannique et sera également présente sur la scène du Isle of MTV Malta 2017. Outre son featuring avec Jonas Blue, elle a connu un autre succès mondial en compagnie de Jax Jones grâce à You Don't Know Me. Enfin, le groupe DNCE sera lui aussi présent à Floriana pour faire bouger le public. S'il l'un de ses membres semble vous rappeler quelque chose, il y a de fortes chances que vous parliez de Joe Jonas. Il a pendant plusieurs années été une véritable star mondiale avec ses frères Nick et Kevin : ensemble ils formaient les Jonas Brothers, groupe de pop-rock

propulsé par Disney. Désormais, chacun a suivi sa voie et celle de Joe passe donc par DNCE. Ils ont séduit le public en 2015 avec Cake by the ocean, et a collaboré récemment avec Nicki Minaj sur le morceau Kissing Strangers. La soirée s'annonce donc particulièrement animée du côté de Floriana. MTV va capter l'évènement et le proposera sur ses chaînes au mois d'août. Tens of thousands of people filled the Floriana granaries tonight in 30 degree weather, for the Isle of MTV concert, which ran for the eleventh consecutive year. It was calculated that the show would host about 50,000 people, whilst gaining a reach of millions around the world through social media such as Facebook and Instagram. The free concert, which attracts many tourists to Malta each year, starred a line-up of four international acts; DNCE, The Chainsmokers, Jonas Blue and Raye. An issue, however, did occur during Raye's performance, where the sound stopped working for a bit. Earlier on in a press conference prior to the event Joe Jonas, member of the American dance-rock band DNCE and former 'Jonas Brother' said that what they hope to take from Malta, as a form of souvenir, is 'one of [their] most memorable shows'. In a press conference this morning prior to the eleventh edition of Isle of MTV concert, happening tonight, the famous brother was asked what he would take back with him from his stay in Malta.

Jonas replied, "it's a tiny island, but there will be 50,000 people at the show tonight, so it's obviously not a tiny crowd. I think it will be exciting for people who don't get to see shows like this quite often. We hope to have a lot of fun and take that energy with us to other shows that we've got." The band told those present that, although their trip is short, they plan to walk around Valletta later today. Songs by DNCE include hits such as 'Toothbrush' and 'Cake by the Ocean'. In 2016, the band won 'Best PUSH Artist' and the 2016 MTV EMAs and 'Best New Artist' at last year's MTV VMAs. The Chainsmokers, DJ Jonas Blue and Raye will also be performing tonight. Raye, who presenter Becca Dudley described as "new popstar in waiting" told those present that she came to Malta a few days prior to the shows, and yesterday went on a jet ski for the first time, admitting that the experience was "very scary". She is mostly known for featuring in hits 'By Your Side', a collaboration with Jonas Blue, and 'You Don't Know Me', a collaborting with Jax Jones. Raye told Dudlet that she very excited to be performing alone. She said that the audience could expect "a lot of jumping around" in her performance. Jonas Blue, who won the biggest selling single globally for his track 'Fast Car' said that he is finding Malta extremely hot. "Isn't it the dream?" Dudley asked him, to which he replied, "it is the dream when you're not in trousers" Jonas Blue, who is also a dj will also be playing a DJ set in Malta following the Isle of MTV performance, and told those present that it is actually not the first time that he has performed a DJ set in Malta many times before. Asked by The Malta Independent whether he has any favourite places here, having visited the island a few times, he said "being a DJ you don't tend to see many places." He said that he has performed at CafĂŠ Del Mar, referring to it as "an incredible gig"". "I could tell you a lot about the airport though!" he said, laughing. The Chainsmokers, who had just landed in Malta and went straight to the press conference, told Dudley that in Malta it "feels like summer". Their short trip here is one stop of many around Europe. After performing at the Fosos this evening, they will be flying to Milan, and then Belgium a few days later. Hits by the band include 'Closer' and '#Selfie'. Commenting on their busy schedule, Dudley asked them what they would do if they had a day off. "I would do nothing," was their reply. Asked by the media if they consider their songs as love songs, the duo replied that a song "can mean a lot of different things to anyone," however they said that they do enjoy writing songs about "small moments in relationships." Noted by the media that their songs have a sense of place, and cities are often mentioned, they were asked what they would write about Malta. Andrew Taggart, one of the band members grinned "give us a couple of hours for Malta," he said, saying that they had minimal time in the island and before that only saw what the island looks like through Google Images. The gates for the show tonight opened at three o'clock at Fosos Square, Floriana.

The free live music concert, which will be broadcast in more than 20 countries, featured the American DJ/production duo The Chainsmokers, American dance-rock band DNCE, the English DJ, record producer, songwriter and remixer Jonas Blue and British singer and songwriter Raye. The show was opened by Gozoâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s folk-pop group The Travellers.

Now in its 11th year in Malta, the annual summer festival shows no sign of slowing down and indeed attracted some of the world’s big names in pop music. The show kicked off with a performance from Raye, a 19-year-old English singer who rocked the stage with her hit song ‘You Don’t Know Me’. She also performed the hit single ‘By Your Side’, as part of a duet with DJ Jonas Blue, who was himself one of the four acts who were invited to the stage. Indeed, Jonas Blue treated the crowds to his pop dance songs, with the crowd going wild when he turned on his hit ‘Perfect Strangers’. New dance-rock band DNCE, which features former Jonas Brother Joe Jonas as its lead vocalist, didn’t fail to come up to expectations, rocking the crowd with hits like ‘Toothbrush’ and ‘Cake on the Ocean’. The headline act of the night, and the last to take to the stage, was the US duo The Chainsmokers, who belted out hits such as ‘Paris’, ‘Don’t let me Down’ and ‘Closer’ – the latter song of which has garnered 1.6 billion views on YouTube. The stars had words of praise for Malta during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon at the Radisson Hotel.

“We’ve just landed in Malta, and it feels like summer, it feels like where we should be,” Alex Pall from The Chainsmokers said. “We’ve never been here before and we only just arrived from Belfast this morning, but we’ve looked at Google images of Malta and its beautiful,” the other ‘Chainsmoker’, Alex Taggart quipped. Joe Jonas had set his expectations high for the night, telling the press that he wants the Isle of MTV festival to be one of the band’s “most memorable shows”. “It’s a tiny island, but there will be 50,000 people at the show tonight so it won’t be a tiny crowd,” he said. “It will be exciting for people who don’t get to see shows like this so often. We hope to have loads of fun and energy and to take this energy to other shows.” Not a stranger to Malta, Jonas Blue said that he has DJed a couple of times at Cafe del Mar before but hasn’t had any time to explore the island yet. “As a DJ, you don’t get to see many places besides clubs… I’ve been in many hotel rooms and I can tell you a lot about the Malta Airport,” he quipped. Raye said that Malta is a beautiful country, and had gushing thanks for the organisers for inviting her to the show. “I went on a jet ski for the first time in my life this morning,” she said. “Playing in a sunny country is so different from what I’m used to.” The Isle of MTV festival was broadcast live on TV in 20 countries and was streamed live on Facebook and Snapchat. Some 170 police officers and 300 security guards were on duty on the night, and their duties included ensuring that no prohibited items entered the Granaries. Apart from weapons, glass bottles, fireworks and professional recording equipment, the list of prohibited items also included rucksacks, selfie-sticks, drones and umbrellas.

Cleansing Department employees did an all-nighter yesterday to clean up the mess left by revellers who attended the Isle of MTV annual concert. A total of 14 tonnes of waste was collected from the Granaries in Floriana, which was covered in plastic bottles, cups, take out plates, residue of fast food and other litter. All the department’s 35-strong team worked through the night to clean up the rubbish left behind by the estimated 50,000 revellers who descended on the Granaries for the show. It was streamed live on social media and is expected to be broadcast in more than 20 countries, with an expected reach of some 40 million followers. The free concert, which attracts many tourists to Malta each year, starred a line-up of four international acts – DNCE, The Chainsmokers, Jonas Blue and Raye. The Chainsmokers praised the organisers of the event and said they wished they could stay on a bit longer than they did. Over the years, chart-topping artists have taken to the Isle of MTV stage, including Snoop Dogg, Enrique Iglesias, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, Jason Derulo, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Akon, One Republic, Flo Rida, Rita Ora and Jessie J. Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi said the airline was currently studying the possibility of opening a number of routes. Air Malta is currently reconsidering the possibility of reopening its Frankfurt route, tourism minister Konrad Mizzi has confirmed. Mizzi was responding to a supplementary parliamentary question put to him by shadow tourism minister Robert Arrigo, this morning. According to the minister, Air Malta’s marketing team was currently evaluating the possibility of opening a number of new routes, as well as others which might have been closed in the past. He stressed however, that if Air Malta were to reopen its Frankfurt route, this would have to come with a holistic plan and long-term. “It would have to be done well and would not result in Air Malta returning for one season,” said the minister. Isle of MTV ‘a success’ The question originally put to the minister was regarding the Isle of MTV festival, which he said had been a success. The minister confirmed that the attendance for the event was of over 50,000 people, making it the largest free event in Europe. Mizzi thanked members of St John’s ambulance, the civil protection department, hospital workers, as well as all those involved in maintaining security at the concert. “Every person entering the event were security cleared,” noted Mizzi, adding that the number of cameras in the event’s security control room had also been increased, in addition to there having been 170 policemen and 300 security personnel on duty. Minister Mizzi also pointed out that the concert had contributed to Malta repositioning its tourism product, which was important in light of the fact that an increasing number of tourists visiting Malta were youths.
