Brite Star Road to the Series, Book 5, New Friends on the Road

As they arrived at Miller Park for the Cubs vs. Brewers game, Ralph Senior and Ralph Junior spotted a group of Cubs fans tailgating next to their RV. "Dad, look! Cubs fans!" Ralph Junior said excitedly.

"Looks like we’re not the only ones who hit the road to follow the Cubs," Ralph Senior smiled.

One of the fans waved them over. "You’re traveling too? We’ve been following the Cubs all season!" the man said, offering Ralph Senior a plate of food. "Come on, Junior, let’s make some new friends," Ralph Senior said, leading the way. "It seems like every ballpark we go to, there’s always Cubs fans around."

As Ralph Senior talked with the other adults, Ralph Junior found a boy his age wearing a Cubs hat. "You’ve seen a lot of Cubs games this year?" Ralph Junior asked.

"Yeah, we’ve been to almost every away game," the boy replied. "It’s like being part of one big Cubs family."

During the game, Ralph Senior and Junior were surrounded by Cubs fans, cheering and chanting. "It feels like a home game here, Dad!" Ralph Junior laughed, looking around.

"That’s the great thing about Cubs fans," Ralph Senior said. "We’re everywhere."

After the game, Ralph Junior said goodbye to his new friend. "Maybe we’ll see each other at the next game!" he said with a smile. "I hope so!" his friend replied, waving as they parted ways.

The next stop on their journey was Cincinnati, where the Cubs would play the Reds. "Do you think we’ll see more Cubs fans, Dad?" Ralph Junior asked.

"I wouldn’t be surprised," Ralph Senior said. "Once you’re a part of the Cubs family, you find connections everywhere."

At the RV park near Great American Ball Park, Ralph Senior and Ralph Junior parked next to another family of Cubs fans. "Look, Dad, they’ve got Cubs flags just like us!" Ralph Junior said, pointing.

"It’s like a Cubs community on the road," Ralph Senior chuckled, as they introduced themselves to their new neighbors.

As they sat with their new friends in the stands at Great American Ball Park, Ralph Junior looked around. "Everywhere we go, it feels like there are more Cubs fans, Dad.”

"That’s because Cubs fans stick together," Ralph Senior said. "We’re not just fans—we’re part of something bigger."

Back at the RV park after the game, the two families sat around a campfire, sharing stories of their adventures following the Cubs. "We’ve met fans from all over," Ralph Junior said, roasting a marshmallow. "It’s like we’re all on this journey together.”

"That’s the magic of being a Cubs fan," one of the other parents said. "Wherever we go, we’re never alone."

Later that night, Ralph Junior added the day’s adventures to his journal. "Everywhere we go, we meet more Cubs fans," he wrote. "It feels like we’re all part of the same big family, even though we’ve just met."

That night, Sally called to check in. "It sounds like you two are meeting new friends everywhere you go," she said, laughing. "I’m glad you’ve found so many people who share your love for the Cubs.”

"Being a Cubs fan is like being part of one big family, Mom," Ralph Junior said. "No matter where we are, we’re never really alone."

As they reflected on the day’s adventures, Ralph Senior and Ralph Junior realized just how special it was to be part of such a strong Cubs community.

"It’s more than just baseball," Ralph Senior said. "It’s about belonging to something bigger."

Think About:

1. How does meeting people with shared interests create new friendships?

2. Why is it important to feel like you belong to a community?

3. What makes the Cubs fanbase so special?

4. How can following your passion help you connect with others?

Let's Work Together: Let’s build connections with people who share our interests and make the most of the opportunities to create meaningful friendships along the way.
