Lindsey gathered the kids near the sparkling lake, a bright smile on her face. “Today, we’re going to have fun in the water,” she said. “But first, let’s make sure we know how to stay safe!”

Lindsey showed the kids how to put on their life jackets and check the fit.

“A life jacket helps keep you safe in the water,” she explained. “Always make sure it’s snug but comfortable!”

She paired the kids into buddy teams.

“Whenever we’re in the water, we use the buddy system,” she said. “That way, we always have someone watching out for us.”

Standing at the edge of the lake, Lindsey demonstrated how to enter the water slowly and carefully. “Always walk in and test the water first,” she advised. “It helps us stay balanced and safe.”

The kids splashed and played in the shallow water, laughing together. Lindsey watched them with a smile, happy to see them enjoying the water safely.

Lindsey showed the kids some basic swimming strokes.

“You don’t have to be a pro swimmer,” she said. “Just knowing a few strokes helps you move in the water safely.”

Next, Lindsey demonstrated how to float on her back. “Floating helps you relax and stay calm if you ever get tired,” she said. The kids followed her lead, floating with big smiles on their faces.

The kids held onto the edge and practiced kicking, following Lindsey’s instructions. “Strong kicks help us move through the water,” she explained. “It’s a great way to build confidence!”

Lindsey gathered the kids in a circle.

“Remember, always keep an eye on each other,” she said. “In the water, we’re all teammates looking out for one another.”

The kids played together, using their new skills to swim and float with confidence.

“Look, I can float!” one

of them exclaimed, while others cheered each other on.

As they sat by the shore, Lindsey asked, “What

did

you

learn

about

being

safe in the water?” The kids shared their favorite parts, feeling proud of their new skills.

Think About:

1. Why is wearing a life jacket important when we’re near water?

2. How does the buddy system help keep us safe?

3. What’s one thing you learned about staying calm in the water?

Let's Work Together: Water can be fun and safe when we work together and look out for each other. Learning these skills helps us enjoy our time in the water!

I Will: I will remember to wear my life jacket, stay with my buddy, and practice my swimming skills to keep safe near water.

The Importance of Knowing: Knowing water safety keeps us protected and confident, allowing us to enjoy lakes, pools, and other places safely with our friends and family.
