Objectives: To make Qatar a leader nation in sport sailing by participating in prestigious international races, building exceptional boats and establishing Doha as a stage for international races. Qatar is one of the leading nations worldwide in competitive sports Taking part in these international races is an optimal way for the Qatar Foundation to incorporate the values associated with sailing at the same time as raising awareness of the Foundation.
However, one major sport shared by all nations does not yet bear the signature of Qatar: the major international trans-ocean races.
➥ Exceptional boats in the colours of Qatar and the Qatar Foundation
that will convey your image and your values. ➥ A notable presence for Qatar in all countries around the world which host stages in these prestigious international races. ➥ Doha, a sensational city for hosting these races. Like no other, this sport conveys ➥ strong human and emotional values: • adventure • transcending one’s limits • ethics and ecology
➥ essential environmental values: • A sport that is closely linked to water and to the conservation of this precious resource • A clean sport that harnesses the natural elements
These races make sense in terms of publicity: they are among the global sporting events that receive the greatest media coverage. The participation of Qatar in these races is a gateway to a major and direct presence in the media. This presence will be reinforced by the athletic performance thanks to the Qatar Sailing Team which is made up of the best sailors in the world.

A SAILING STRATEGY IN SYNC WITH YOUR VALUES ➥ A strategy for high-level sports with the best skippers and crew members in the world.
➥ A strategy for image-building and promotion that complements the strategy for sports performance. ➥ An educational strategy in order to train Qatar’s sailing professionals of tomorrow, at the same time as emphasising the educational qualities of the Qatar Foundation.
These three complementary lines of action create a synergy, but are ultimately dependent upon the fighting spirit of the Team and their mastery of the multihull race.

A programme of international races
An efficient way to position the image of Qatar abroad A long-term strategy and approach There are various potential strategies for becoming a stronger force in the world of international sailing. For the Qatar Foundation, we have developed a winning strategy based on the opportunities provided by the sailing calendar and developments in cutting-edge sailing. Committing to a challenge of this type is only possible through collaboration with a French team who have consistently been the leading specialists in multihull races.

America’s Cup This new circuit above all offers an ideal launching pad for the next America’s Cup to be held in 2017. Our ultimate goal: taking home the trophy, the famous silver ewer, to Doha in 2017 and organising the next edition in Qatar in 2021, one year before the Football World Cup.

2012 :
Construction of the Qatar Foundation MOD 70 ➥ Start of construction of the MOD 70.
➥ Organisation of demonstrations and public relations activities in Doha. Encouraging the support of the Qataris. ➥ Positioning Qatar in the world of Mod 70, particularly towards the countries of the Middle East who have already entered the arena of sailing racing (Oman, Abu Dhabi, etc.)
A Franco-Qatari dream team
➥ Construction of a logistical team on the ground who can provide maintenance for the boat and support for the crew during all of their campaigns. ➥O rganisation of a training base to continuously allow sailors to train at every opportunity against competing teams.
• These training phases form an essential part of the project: to train and integrate Qatari crew members so that the residents of Qatar can embrace this sport that is practiced around the entire world, as well as to allow the Qataris to feel a sense of involvement in the international races. • The construction of boats that will fly the colours of the Qatar Foundation will be overseen from start to finish by French and Qatari engineers under the direction of our team expert manager, Yvon Berrehar, a well respected specialist in racing boat preparation.

The Multi One Championship is raced in monotype on MOD 70, 70 ft oceangoing multihulls which combine modernity, performance, safety, reliability and durability. The MOD 70 will be the boat of reference for the next 10 years. Associating the image of Qatar with this boat will therefore guarantee lasting exposure.

2016 :
preparing the Qatar Foundation Sailing Team for the America’s Cup
AC 45
A full year is devoted to training for the America’s Cup to be held in 2017.
• According to the way the MOD 70 circuit works, this training will be held on AC 45, extremely lightweight multihulls, which are ideal for perfecting the strategy with an eye to taking part in this key challenge. • At the same time, construction will begin on the boat designed to compete for the America’s Cup trophy, supervised by Qatari and French engineers, under the direction of our Team Expert manager Yvon Berrehar, renowned for his skill in preparing racing sailboats
2017 :
Objective: to bring the America’s Cup to Doha The oldest sports trophy that is still vied for today, the famous silver ewer of the America’s Cup has been awarded to the winner of the race since 1851. This fascinating “queen of races” lends an iconic quality to all of the participating boats and crowns a winner for the next four years. Four years that will take us from 2017, the date of the first participation of the Qatar Foundation Sailing Team, to 2021... an ideal schedule, absolutely perfect... because the winner of the 2017 edition will have the honour of organising the America’s Cup wherever they wish, at any marina in the world.
14
Bringing the cup to Doha is the number-one goal of the Qatar Foundation Sailing Team. To be able to organise a competition of this stature in Qatar represents a crowning achievement for your commitment to sailing sports and an incredible triumph for Qatar and the values upheld by the Qatar Foundation.
AC 72
With the Qatar Foundation Sailing Team, the Qatar Foundation has every chance of success: ➥ S ince 2000, the race regulations have been adjusted to make it possible for the cup to be won by a nonAmerican team. ➥ Since 2010, the cup has been held on multihulls, sailboats in which the French are the absolute specialists (during the 33rd cup, all of the syndicates called upon the French to introduce them to this new type of racing sailboat).
➥ Team manager Eric Loizeau is one of the pioneers in multihull navigation, and Thomas Coville is one of the best skippers working on multihulls today: they are combining their strengths in strategy, technology and management.

An image strategy
PERFORMANCE AND MEDIA
The Multi One Championship to efficiently increase one’s profile The Multi One Championship combines the adventure of ocean racing with the emotional impact of a live regatta.
On the oceans and seas around the globe, the fleet of MOD 70 will compete in short stages (European tour) and races on the open sea (Ocean World Tour and Ocean race), at each stage linking major economic capitals such as Doha. The world’s top skippers will also be on hand in the heart of the host cities for speed runs, which are explosive, hypertelegenic and intensely fought contests before a live audience. The ideal racing conditions for live broadcast (TV – net – radio – sporting challenges) via a cutting-edge broadcasting system onboard each MOD 70.
16
Thanks to simple race rules which encourage a spectacular show, sail racing is expanding into new territory and enthralling new audiences.
17
18
The top-of-the-line villages at each stage offer contact with the public, with the accent on the sport, culture and ecological responsibility. The racing villages in a nutshell:
➥ structured to receive over 20,000 people per village per day
➥ designed to ultimately reflect the values of ecological responsibility, waste recovery, sanitary innovation, the use of eco-materials, recycling, clean energy, non-polluting transport, and energy efficient communication equipment... ➥ Participation of partner foundations and associations
➥ Emphasis on the theme of water in the foundation’s pavilion “Multi One Attitude” ➥ Entertainment and concerts
➥ Press events (skipper/public)
➥ Organisation of “city race” and “speed match” at each stage
The duration of the stages and opening of the village is optimal: ➥ Tour of Europe approx. 3 days (7 cities)
➥ World tour approx. 15 days (8 cities)
The occasion to promote the values of the Qatar Foundation on water, but also on land, at the same time as linking it with the three core commitments of the Multi One Championship: • Economic responsibility in rationalising the cost of the research, production, maintenance and development of the MOD 70 boats. •E nvironmental responsibility use of natural resources to power the boats (renewable energy) as well as during the design and production phases and the promotion of the event. •S ocial responsibility by emphasising man and his environment; human, strategic and tactical qualities are the differentiating elements.
Organising a stage in Doha: an extraordinary impact.

20
An investment opportunity that offers
excellent media exposure in a context of values that reflect those of the Qatar Foundation
The Multi One Championship represents much more than a race. The event conveys strong social and environmental values that have the potential to attract an increasingly wide audience.
Participation of the Qatar Foundation in the Multi One Championship represents a genuine opportunity for investment. In terms of media impact, this new circuit is at least comparable to that of the Volvo Ocean Race: professional international teams, a global circuit with crewing and a common worldwide strategy of the Organiser/ Title partner. This new event offers a wide array of additional advantages: • Innovation in the choice of boats the Multi One desig, • Control of costs,
➥ Audiovisual production reaching an audience of 2 billion television viewers ➥ The press published over 18,000 articles in 11 countries, thus reaching 686 million readers.
➥ O ver 3.5 million visitors to the official website. ➥ O ver 1 billion people followed the championship on the radio.
➥ Between 200% and 300% return on investment with regard to the media exposure for each syndicate (team).
• Diversity and scope of the programme (European Tour/Ocean World Tour/ Ocean Race), • Strong commitment to organising an ecologically-responsible race, • The direct returns (2008 media statistics: ex Volvo Ocean Race).
21
The America’s Cup to showcase
Qatar’s competitiveness and to give global visibility to Doha Among the top 20 global sporting events, the America’s Cup receives extremely high media coverage and is broadcast in full on TV:
➥ 39 television channels have acquired the broadcast rights including Sky (Great Britain) Canal + (France), Teledeporte and Canal 9 (Spain), Eurosport (Europe) Show Time (the Middle East), ESPN (United States), Live FOX (Australia), TVNZ and sky (New Zealand).
➥ Proof of the riveting effect on the public: 15 hours of live broadcast were retransmitted in 206 countries whilst the action itself took place in 3 hours for the first race and 2 hours for the second. ➥ Over 15 hours live broadcast, and 27 hours of special programming were produced.
The returns for the stage city are equally impressive But in order to evaluate the potential returns for Doha, we prefer to base our estimate on a conservative range, specifically, the documented figures as opposed to the prospective figures for the first America’s Cup in Valencia in 2007: ➥ 6.4 million visitors,
➥ 5.7 million visitors in the Port America’s Cup, Valencia,
➥ 4.2 billion in total TV audience,
➥ 1 million m² of developments at the Port America’s Cup, ➥ 50,000 jobs created in the Valencia region,
➥ 2 000 spectator boats on the water on the occasion of the final week of the race, ➥ €60 million in profit redistributed to the teams who had participated in the 32nd America’s Cup.

A PARTICIPATIVE AND EDUCATIONAL STRATEGY
A winning boat is above all about the people In order to forge a perfectly coherent strategy for the Qatar Foundation team, it is essential for the Qataris to become involved and fully embrace this new adventure: ➥ Training Qataris for international sailing competitions.
➥ Developing educational sailing among the children of Qatar.
Our role is to transmit our expertise in the area of training high-level sailors, to help you in creating the value chain that is indispensable for adopting this high-level sport:
➥ Training phases for educating and integrating the Qatari team members and crew. ➥ Involvement of the residents in the international races through public relations and communication campaigns in Qatar.
➥ Creation of a Sailing Academy in Doha with the goal of preparing the Qatari navigators of tomorrow as well as raising awareness among young Qataris of this sport that is practised in all of the major nations of the world. ➥ An educational factor in the international integration for Qatari youth.
