ur Visitor Information Centres are a ‘one stop shop’, stocked full of helpful brochures, maps and great tourist information. Be sure to check onward journey road conditions with the team while you’re there. Both Tambo and Blackall VICs are co-located with the towns’ libraries so ask about the Queensland Rural Libraries’ Tourist Card while there. Joining the library with a tourist card allows you to borrow books, audio books and magazines from one library and return them to another within the network of sixtysix libraries across the State. Blackall Visitor Information Centre is situated in the heart of town and there is plenty of parking just around the corner in Short Street. Inside this modern building the counter is a major talking point. Built from every timber imaginable from across the central west, it is a veritable work of art. If you like a bit of bush camping the Blackall VIC can take your registration and payment for a site along the Barcoo River on the edge of town.

BLACKALL-TAMBO REGION VISITORS’ GUIDE
The VIC in Tambo is situated in one of the oldest buildings in town, the heritage listed Historical Courthouse. Located at the eastern end of the town, there is ample street parking for even the largest rigs. Tambo is the oldest town in the west and the VIC is home to the most magnificent quilt, the ‘Rhythm of Life’ created by local ladies to celebrate the town’s sesquicentenary in 2013. Well worth a look, this quilt very cleverly tells the tale of the town from the earliest days of settlement.
