Mayor’s Youth Council Pandemic Victims Ceremony Story & Photography by Tony Centonze Recently the Mayor’s Youth Council gathered at McGregor Park to hold a memorial honoring those who lost their lives to COVID-19 in Clarksville and Montgomery County.

“The Mayor’s Youth Council is an amazing group of young people in our community,” Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts said. “These are high school juniors and seniors from all across the county who have come together to hold this event which not only commemorates those lost, but recognizes all who have lost loved-ones during the pandemic.” Small white flags were planted and bouquets of flowers were placed at the entrance of McGregor Park. Family members in attendance were encouraged to write the names of their loved ones on the flags. “I’m a senior at Rossview High School,” event organizer Hannah Dodson said. “I saw what other cities were doing around the nation, using the white flags as a memorial for COVID-19 victims. I realized that Clarksville needed one as well. We’ve had 221 deaths as of this morning. We need this reminder, and to once again put into perspective, that these are not just numbers. Each of these flags represents a person, and a family that has suffered a terrible loss.”
