It’s true.
If you’re looking for cookie cutter, if you’re looking for what the neighbors have, if you’re looking for more of the same, then you’re in luck. There are a lot of design teams out there doing just that.
But you won’t find that at idMI. Every space that we design is as thoughtfully unique as the client it represents.
Drop by our website or our showroom for a taste of what we’re about.
If the old saying “time flies when you are having fun” is true, we must be living in a perpetual party. It’s hard to believe we are well into the summer vacation season and quickly headed toward Labor Day. While our seasonal changes are mild, with plenty of warm beach days ahead, it does mean that schools returning to session and more normal routines will once again take precedence over summer play days. So now that the constant rain seems to have passed, get out to the beaches and enjoy the beautiful emerald waters that drew so many of us here.
Of course, VIP 30A Magazines focus on many things beyond the water’s edge, including a host of local events we are blessed to have the opportunity to experience. While spring and fall are considered the events season, there are plenty of summer happenings, so make sure and check out our calendar. This issue captures several of the late spring into early summer favorites like Digital Graffiti, Art Month festivities, and a host of ribbon cuttings and open houses at our beloved local businesses.

30Avenue brought a new event to the local scene, 30A Foamfest. This exciting and engaging festival, full of great craft beers, food, live entertainment, and an oldfashioned Bavarian contest, will surely be a signature event for years to come.
So while there are plenty of dog days of summer to endure, there are also many wonderful beach days to enjoy with family and friends.
Be safe!

30A Foam Fest, presented by Idyll Hound Proper and 30Avenue, made its debut at 30Avenue on Saturday, May 13, from 2-6 p.m. with proceeds from the inaugural event benefiting Food for Thought Outreach.
Guests were welcomed to the coastal shopping center to enjoy an afternoon filled with unlimited sips of craft beer, food, live music, activities, and much more. Breweries from across the southeast showcased and poured their unique beers during the festival, accompanied by food from various 30Avenue restaurants. Live music was performed on the main stage throughout the event, kicking off with the opening act, Boukou Groove, followed by the popular, New Orleans-based band Flow Tribe.
The afternoon of festivities culminated with the Steinholding competition. In this traditional Bavarian contest, competitors raise a full one-liter beer stein out in front of their bodies with a straight arm parallel to the ground. The person who holds their arm out the longest is crowned the winner. The combination of fine craft beers, live music, great food, and entertainment, all for a local cause, will make 30A Foam Fest a signature event for years to come!
The Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County recently held “Under the Sea” in Grand Boulevard Town Center. In its 5th year, this event is an Art Month Walton County signature event kicking off a month of activities. This fundraiser celebrates the Underwater Museum of Art’s fifth installation with a night of art, music, cocktails, food, and fun. Many local chefs from area restaurants set up shop and showed off their best while the live music entertained the crowd as they viewed several UMA sculptures. The headliner act, the Cleverlys, is a very entertaining one-of-a-kind comedy/music band from Arkansas. They tour nationally, playing at some of the country’s largest festivals, including Telluride, CMA Music Fest, and The Grand Ole Opry.
The UMA is a presentation of the CAA’s ‘Art in Public Spaces’ program in partnership with the South Walton Artificial Reef Associations. Their purpose is to create marine habitats and expand fishery populations for residents and visitors of Walton County to enjoy.
Capital City Bank recently hosted an open house at their new location in Watersound. This location is in the heart of an exciting amount of growth taking place near the east end of 30A in and around Watersound, including Publix and many other new businesses opening recently.

This enables the bank to offer a full range of products and services to meet their client’s specific financial needs. Capital City Bank also has a long-standing tradition of being very involved in the communities they service, as their bankers donate many volunteer hours to local civic organizations and philanthropic groups.
Clients, friends, and acquaintances were invited to “Stop by and say hello” on this early summer afternoon. Everyone enjoyed wonderful food and beverages from 98 BBQ and Distillery 98 combined with a live performance by “The Voice” contestant Jared Herzog.

The Alys Foundation presented the 16th Annual Digital Graf ti Festival at Alys Beach May 19-20, 2023. The Scenic 30A community of Alys Beach, located along the northwest Florida Emerald Coast, provided the environment for the Digital Graf ti festival – an open-air, organic gallery for the projections. The festival’s juried show featured the works of artists from the worldwide arena, unique in its display by digital projection onto the white walls of the architecture of Alys Beach, and into the broader exterior landscape. As Digital Graf ti Residency Artists for the 2023 festival, the works of Katina Bitsicas, XUAN, and Austin Shaw were also featured throughout the festival route.
With curator John Colette at the helm, Digital Graf ti enjoys the perspective of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) motion media design professor and eightyear veteran participant. Festival winners were selected by John and an esteemed panel of judges. The 2023 awards include Best in Show ($5,000 prize): Holy Photons, Through the Fire to the Light; Curator’s Choice ($2,000 prize): Brittnie Diamant, Memoria Amnesia, and three Special Recognition honors (at $1,000 prize each): Peter Clark & Cody Samson, Ecotone; S4RA, privacy-GrDN.info; Jinkyu Kang, The Light. Festival winners were selected by the festival’s curator, John Colette, and an esteemed panel of judges.
Saltwater shing seems pretty complicated – that you need a big boat with multiple engines and to be in places that are hard to pronounce. That stuff is awesome; look at the other pages in this magazine – but think of how you probably started shing with a hand-dug worm and a little hook. Rarely is the focus on something easy. Picture this: it’s 5 o’clock in the afternoon. No work is looming. It’s snowing up north. But not here. The sun is just above the horizon, kicking out shades of orange and pink that you have never heard of, re ecting off the emerald-colored waterand you’re just sitting there in the warm, white sand.
Not what you think of when you think of sport shing. As a full-time charter captain, I can admit it - the days can be long, and there’s almost always something that needs maintenance on the boat or equipment. Don’t even get me started on the weather. I’ve tried hard to pattern it and study it - but if there’s one thing I know - it’s that in the winter, the days get shorter, and it’s probably not as hot outside. Probably. But shing doesn’t always have to be hard. Sometimes it can be easy. It can be relaxing, and it can work for just about anyone.
When I rst moved to Florida - I didn’t have a boat. I went out almost every day and sat on that sand and watched the waves crash. I had surf- shing experience from growing up on the East Coast, and I told myself I would live off what I caught. That lasted about 5 hours before I went to the grocery store and bought some chicken to grill. I had tried really hard to complicate things over and missed the point of it. Sometimes you just have to sit there and wait. Once, I could smell the chicken on the grill - that’s when things started to click. I stopped worrying about catching dinner. I was sitting on one of the prettiest beaches I had ever seen and was just fishing. No fuel, no maintenance, no stress, no work. It didn’t matter if I was nine or 90 years old. Then that “oh sh*t” moment happened - I thought my rod would get dragged to Mexico. How awesome is that? Guess what? Grill was already hot too. I had to learn how to llet pompano pretty fast. One day I’ll capture that strike on camera - but it happens in a ash and never when you’re ready.
Surf shing doesn’t need to be confusing or hard. I started off buying live baits, ice, and aerators and spent time digging for fresh baits. I always tried to take note of lessons learned, and over the years, things quickly simpli ed. More often than not, from my notes anyway, I found the bite was at least equal on arti cial bait. I’ve found speci c colors and scents had more success than others, noticeably chartreuse shrimp or orange sand ea “ avors.” Think of what your target species is feeding on when you choose bait. There are a dozen manufacturers now of arti cial scented baits - some with incredible engineering stories and history. I heard one was invented when someone cut their foot while clamming and noticed the shrimp react to the cut. I’m not suggesting someone goes and cuts their foot, but thank you to whoever did that for making my life easier.
PRO TIP: I also think a lot of guys use baits that are too big. A pompano’s mouth is about the diameter of my thumb - I size my baits to match.
Sure, if it was a tournament or something, your success goes up with bait options. I’ve seen great catches from some of the guys on all kinds of baits - soaking shrimp in soda, catching buckets of sand eas, and even throwing jigs. But on my days off - and the majority of visiting anglers to the panhandle - success can’t come much easier than just a sand spike, a resealable bag of baits, a 9’ rod, and a two hook rig with a 3oz pyramid sinker. Some days, I wouldn’t even take a chair. I’d just sit there, watch the sun go down (with probably a cocktail or three), and wait. If I need more than a 3oz sinker to hold the line straight - I’d probably carry a bigger cooler down instead of the shing gear and stop trying to force something.
by Mark & Kayla HotzeLuckily, our water here is very clear and it makes reading the beach and choosing a shing spot easier than other beaches. Once you start looking at the water like that - you’ll never be able to look at the beach the same way again. You can see a lot of the features - either through the water or by watching the waves break. Fish like to travel in the troughs between sandbars, looking for rips and cuts to feed in. Look for a change. Look for something deeper and darker - either a rip, a hole, or something different. Think like a sh. Where would you swim and feed if you were out there? Put your bait there. If you have multiple rods, stagger and adjust them based off of the area the bites come from. I’ll have just enough drag to let the circle hook set itself - and I might tighten it up a bit depending on the sh.
One of the most exciting parts of saltwater shing is that almost anything can eat that bait. Don’t be surprised if it’s a giant red sh, tiny pompano, black drum, cat sh, whiting, jack crevalle, Spanish mackerel, or sharks (Yes! We have sharks and they do enjoy swimming the same beaches that you do!) I even watched my ancée ght a plastic bag for about 10 minutes. Like I said earlier, that’s shing. You don’t typically read about surf shing in a magazine. It’s not as glamourous as sailshing or tuna, but this type of shing can be done here year-round. Anyone can do it, and there’s almost always something swimming by. Most importantly, just enjoy it. Watch the sun go down, enjoy the sound of the waves, keep your eye on that rod tip - and don’t worry about boat fuel for a few more weeks.
Saturday, April 29th at Grayton Beach, marked the 3rd Annual Paddle for Peace. It’s no secret that in today’s world, our mental health and peace are one of the biggest things that we need to give more attention to. By connecting people to the healing qualities of the water and our fantastic community, we hope that paddling can be a healthy mental outlet for many and bring us all together for a good cause.
Funds raised from Paddle for Peace provide more paddle boards to get people out on the water and support those needing additional layers of therapy by collaborating with local mental health & wellness specialists. Gulf Therapy aims to provide a platform to help people on and off the water. Your donation will help us connect people to healthcare professionals while continuing Gulf Therapy’s outreach in the community help us connect people to a healthcare professional while continuing Gulf Therapy’s outreach in the community.
Butler Elementary recently held its 3rd Annual Birdies Fore Butler Tournament. This golf scramble and silent auction fundraiser for the school, held at Burnt Pine in Sandestin, was an instant sellout. Principal Jimmy Ross said the tournament started as a 25-team field but increased to 32 due to the overwhelming demand. There was a record number of sponsors for this event, showing the dedication and generosity of the school’s families and supporters. An impressive $40,000 was raised on this fun day of golf and camaraderie, followed by a meal, silent auction, and awards presentation. Funds raised go to support the cultural programs, Ron Clark and Capturing Kids Hearts, at the school.

Pairing and Sharing Wine Dinner was recently held at the beautiful Rosemary Beach Town Hall Center. This fundraiser was a fabulous evening for guests as they began the evening with a cocktail hour in the courtyard with passed hors d’oeuvres. Following was a three-course dinner provided by Swiftly Catering paired with five wines from Dry Farm Wines along with live music by Top Hat Live.
The evening culminated with a short video of Caring and Sharing client testimonials as guests learned more about the new Neighbors Helping Neighbors Program. The South Walton Beaches Wine & Food Festival was once again a tremendous success, with sold-out crowds over the course of the three-day event. Even a little inclement weather on Saturday would not dampen the spirits of those attending the Grand Boulevard hosted event, as a slight delay gave time for the clouds to clear and everyone to resume the festivities that began Friday.
From the VIP kick-off event and the Craft Beer & Spirits Jam to the Grand Tastings, the festival lived up to its reputation. With over twenty local restaurants on hand to sample, there were plenty of tastings to pair with, not only an endless variety of exquisite wines but Tequilas, Bourbons, Bloody Marys, and more.
Teams of 2 players will begin the tournament in 16 groups of 4 teams.
Following
Games consist of (2) two teams of (2) two people. Partners shall stand at opposite cornhole boxes on the same side facing each other. Each cornhole team shall have 4 bags of one color and all 8 cornhole bags begin at one end.

The 10th Annual Tequila & Taco Fest was a threeday sold-out event at Sandestin in the Village of Baytowne Wharf. This event, which has grown over the years, begins with a pre-party on Friday night at the magical waterfront setting of the Sandestin Marina. Founder and event promoter Carlos Saffran added an extra touch this year by bringing in a live performance by reggae musician Mishka, a five-time Billboard charttopper. Having performed with the likes of Kenny Chesney & Jimmy Buffett, the marina background with the sun melting into the water made for a perfect party setting.
Saturday, the main event followed as crowds poured in to try almost any type of tequila you could think of, along with food and entertainment. Various local restaurants competed for the Best Taco on the Emerald Coast award. At the same time, over 40 different types of Tequilas were served. Tortilla Tossing and Macho Nacho eating contests kept everyone entertained. Sunday wrapped up the festivities with the Bye Bye Brunch.
Freeport is home to a wonderful wildlife sanctuary, Alaqua Wildlife Refuge. Alaqua provides services for pets that have been abandoned as well as injured wildlife. As a leading advocate for all animals, their goal is to provide safety, shelter, and second chances to animals in need while recognizing the healing power animals have on the human spirit. This is not an easy task for Lori Hood, president, and founder, as it requires a significant budget to fund such a facility. To help support their mission, Alaqua holds several fundraisers throughout the year where animal lovers have a chance to have fun and support a worthy cause. One of these events is FORE the Love of Animals Golf Tournament. In its second year, this event was held at The Links Golf Club At Sandestin and had a fabulous turnout. In addition to the many participants, it requires generous sponsors and a host of volunteers to make this tournament and its awards celebration such a success!
