best and most economical way to address them. Which you ultimately did!

As you know, we met with and got bids from, two other reputable painters in the area. While they both gave me reasonable quotes, I clearly did not come away with the confidence in them that I had in you.

My wife particularly appreciated your advice on our paint colors and whether or not to retain our shutters and screens. As you know, she, and all of us, are ecstatic with our joint decisions. I appreciated your calls and pictures when you ran into some issues with the deterioration of our stucco walls. More importantly, you limited the costs of addressing those issues.

I will always remember and appreciate your response when I asked when you expected to start and complete our project. It was Saturday afternoon. You asked when we were leaving, to which I said Sunday afternoon.

Your response: “We will be here Monday and there will be more ladders and men on your home by Wednesday than you can imagine.” You continued on to say “We will complete the job as quickly as possible, depending only on the weather. By Wednesday, you were sending me pictures and giving me text updates. Net, net, you completed the

Emerald Coast Pkwy, Ste B264 Rosemary Beach, FL 32461 Dear Hank, Hank, my family and I want to thank you your brother Chris who oversaw the project, and your team for an incredible paint job on our 3-story Seagrove Beach home at 2780 E County Hwy 30-A. I cannot begin to tell you how we all felt as we drove down Hwy 395 a couple weeks ago and saw our newly painted home at the intersection of 395 & 30-A. Wow!!!! My wife, 27 and 22-year-old children, and I were blown away. It was like someone had built us a new home. Thank you...thank you...thank you! When we first met on March 8 at our beach home to discuss our project, I was really impressed with your friendliness, professionalism, and clear interest in helping us refresh our beautiful home. I particularly appreciated your willingness to “cut to the chase” and not waste my wife’s and my time. You helped us understand a couple of tricky issues as it related to repainting our home and our stucco walls. You pointed out some areas of our house and walls that might end up being issues, but gave me confidence that you would determine the
job quicker than we had expected and at the costs you had quoted. The final touch was when you suggested I withhold a portion of my payment until my wife and I were able to come look at the house in person. Obviously, when we arrived several weeks later, the job was perfect! I should add that several people who have driven by, several we have seen on the beach and at the Surfing Deer, across the street, have commented on our beautiful new paint job July 17, 2021 Casey Beathard Nashville, TN To Whom It May Concern, Southern Grace Restoration, Hank & Bull Chappell were hands down, our favorite restoration company we've ever used. We have been building houses, remodeling & doing projects for over 25 years as a family and have never had a company be so efficient with time and a budget. Hank’s patience, knowledge, honor and professionalism never wavered even as we made changes and obstacles presented themselves. Especially working long distance, he went above and beyond to meet and defeat every challenge. He made promises that he kept and did exactly what he said he would do. These are great people first, great contractors second. They deal with subs and a crew that were just as responsible, kind and gifted in craftsmanship. We are grateful for The Chappell's and “Southern Grace” and our new relationship. We are more than satisfied with every aspect of the well-done job. We will absolutely use them every chance we can. Letter from the Publisher

The obvious uptick in traffic signals spring break is upon us. Although, I’m not sure it really slowed down much, as this area continually grows into a year-round community. What an exciting season for 30A and all of Walton County as families from around the South choose this area as their beach destination of choice. And why not, when we truly have some of the most beautiful white sand beaches in the world!

This is also a time of the year when our calendar quickly fills as local non-profits and civic organizations plan their annual fundraisers. Our mild winter months allow for many great indoor and outdoor events to take place throughout January and February, which you will see a variety of in this Spring Break issue of VIP 30A Magazine. Speaking of, there is no better way to bring in the New Year than atop Hotel Effie where we took so many fun photos. And of course, there is January’s 30A Songwriters Festival, an all time favorite of mine. The opportunity to see so much diverse musical talent over 4 days, in both the writing and performance side of the industry, is truly amazing. We also had a wonderful annual gala provided by the Walton Area Chamber which serves 30A and all of Walton County.

CEO Megan Harrison along with the Chamber Staff and Board, put together an entertaining and informative evening with this years 80’s Prom Gala at the Hilton Sandestin. This only scratches the surface of the events that we have attended and covered over the last couple of months along 30A and the surrounding area. Look for our next issue with tons of photos from the likes of Seaside Race Weekend, Soiree on the Bay, the Butler Bear Bash and upcoming wine and food festivals.

I could go on and on about events but I will let the pages of VIP 30A Magazine speak for themselves. This is also our Health & Beauty issue which is a long running tradition in all of our VIP’s around the South. This is an opportunity to feature the best medical and cosmetic professionals that 30A and South Walton has to offer. These businesses and the medical professionals behind the scenes have dedicated their lives to improving ours. From spas which elevate our overall well being, to cosmetics which keep us younger longer, to critical care providers, we are very blessed to have this exceptional level of providers so close to home!

Happy Spring!

DUAL CHAMBER BUSINESS AFTER HOURS

The Walton Area Chamber of Commerce along with the Panama City Beach Chamber recently held a dual Business After Hours. The host of this event was Shades at Inlet Beach, and was sponsored by Capital City Bank with locations in Bay and Walton County markets. With both Chambers present, the crowd had the opportunity to network with many new faces. Of course, Shades with a variety of culinary delights and cocktails provided a wonderful spread of delicious light bites for attendees to enjoy while they conversed with fellow chamber members. The traditional raffle held at the end of every business after hours sent many members home with wonderful prizes and even a little cash!

Burnt Pine Golf Club was host to the 2023 Charity Golf Classic. Beautiful fall weather set the stage for a wonderful day of camaraderie and competition as teams competed in the four-man scramble. This annual charity event, which supports Sacred Heart Hospital Emerald Coast, included not only a day of challenging golf but an exciting 19th Hole. A late lunch was provided as the competition continued with bidding on the silent and live actions while the crowd was entertained by the The Backsliders Band green-side.

Hotel Effie and its electric atmosphere make for the area’s hottest New Year’s Eve celebration. The evening began as guests immersed themselves in the enchanting ambiance of Ovide as they savored a specially curated 4-course culinary journey. As the evening inched closer to the countdown, guests made their way to the Ara Rooftop Pool and Lounge to enjoy exceptional cocktails and dance the night away to live music poolside. Of course, there is no better view to observe the fireworks below in Baytowne Wharf than Hotel Effie’s rooftop, as party goers rang in 2024 in style!

Church ceremony in Daas on 1 year anniversary

November 18, 2023

Reception in WaterColor, FL

Wedding Ceremony -

I wore my grandmother’s wedding ring and my mother’s rosary as my something borrowed. My cousin, Ashby, was my maid of honor and wore a pink dress. I held a white and pink bouquet. My daughter, Lotte, and all of my nieces and nephews were the ring bears and flower girls. Getting them all down the aisle was comical.

Zach and I got married first in my childhood best friend’s living room by her mother who happens to be a state judge. Just the two of us.

We then had a church service in Dallas, TX at Mary Immaculate Church on our one year anniversary.

This is the church where Zach grew up.

We had the ceremony there so that close family, who were unable to travel to Florida could make it. We also had our daughter, Lotte baptized on the same day at the church. We celebrated our wedding later that year with our dream reception in our favorite place, WaterColor, Florida.”

Wedding Reception -

Our reception was held at the LakeHouse in Watercolor. My vision for this event was to keep the decor timeless and simple, as the venue is already beautiful. We chose mainly greenery for floral, with blue and white flowers throughout. My bridesmaids all were able to pick their own dresses in a palette of blues and greens. Our first dance was with our daughter, Lotte, to “How Sweet it is to be Loved by You” - it was so special. Our friends and family danced and drank until the wee hours. It was truly a magical night!

The office itself is indeed breathtaking, but what really sets 30A Smiles apart is the people within.

Dr. Fleitz and Dr. Hoppe hand selected each member of their dream team, including their newest additions, Dr. Julia Skinner and Dr. Stephanie Baya, to ensure their commitment to providing their patients with the very best.

Dr. Fleitz explains, “New patients often arrive feeling anxious about a dental visit, and we get such joy when they leave with a smile on their face.”

Dr. Hoppe agrees, “Dentistry involves so much more than teeth. It’s about having an opportunity to really make a difference in people’s live s”.

6Tips for Healthier SKIN , NOW & in

THE FUTURE

Let’s face it, we’ve all seen those people who look as if they’ve spent one (or 100) too many long days basking along the beach, lounging by the pool, or navigating the water by boat searching for fish, fun or both. While that just right sun-kissed glow can be a rather attractive asset, no one wants to appear ten years older with skin like leather just to proclaim, “I live at the beach!”

1 Use Sunscreen...

Yes, I know you know that. But, do you?

Many of us have come to understand that if our skin doesn’t look healthy, in many ways, we don’t look healthy. Even more importantly than appearance; however, is simply protecting our skin, so as to ward off the C word and other health issues associated with sun damage. The truth is, most of the damage manifested in skin problems isn’t due to what you do today, as much as is it what you did 10, 15, or 25 years ago.

Most of us have been lectured about sunscreen until someone was blue in the face. Yet, strangely, we still get red because we don’t always use it. Go figure. By now we’ve all read a lot of conflicting information on good and bad sunscreen use, along with what strength to use and what those numbers do and don’t “really” mean. The bottom line is, while using good sunscreen is great, using anything is likely better than using nothing at all –especially on those days in the direct sun for hours. You should apply sunscreen almost religiously whenever you’re outside for over an hour, and you should definitely be reapplying every two hours when you’re at the beach, pool, or just working in the yard for many hours in a day.

All sunscreens are formulated and manufactured to protect wearers against UVB rays, which are the primary cause of sunburns, sun damage, and most skin cancers, however UVA rays –which we seem to hear less about—are also causes of wrinkles, sunspots, skin cancers, and overall premature and unattractive aging of the skin. Because you need to protect yourself against both types of these sun derived culprits, most dermatologist recommend that their patients (and the rest of us sun lovers too) procure a good SPF 50, or higher, broad-spectrum sunscreen. It’s also worth noting --especially for beach or pool days—that a water-resistant formula is good to have around. Be prepared to reapply after taking a dip in the gulf or pool though, as not even the best brands will stay on through multiple splashes and swims.

2 Use the right soaps and cleansers for YOUR skin

One of the best things you can do to protect your skin -particularly your facefrom sun damage is to take care of your skin in other ways too. For starters this means using the right soaps and cleansers for your skin type, and the climate, and even season. For instance, most dermatologist will tell you that one of the best soaps for your face and skin is simply good old fashion white Dove. Yep, even better across the majority of skin types than expensive brand name cleansers that cost ten to twenty times the investment in that one bar of Dove.

In general, you’ll want to stay away from heavy oil based cleaners and use those formulated for your specific skin type, most of which tend to be in foam pump form or light creams. The same goes for easing up on heavy astringents that are often alcohol based and tend to dry out skin… exactly what you don’t want before exposing yourself to lots of sunlight. If you really pay attention to the ingredients in products you use it will become clear that a lot of it is common sense based. In other words, it may be dermatology, but it isn’t rocket science to understand you want to keep your skin moisturized.

However, it’s never too late to start putting more emphasis on skin health, and following these simple suggestions can certainly make for a positive difference, both now and in the future.

3 Hydrate your body to hydrate your skin

We all hear so much about drinking enough water, and the importance of staying hydrated, but the simple truth is… well, it is a simple truth. Most all of us (somewhat dependent on body size and composition) need to get a minimum of 60 to 150 ounces of water per day. And, most people don’t do this. Back to the simple common sense aspect of skin care: if your entire body is dehydrated then your skin is too. What I’ve found that works is simply keeping a 12 to 20 ounce glass bottle of cool purified water in the refrigerator (at home, work, or a cooler in your car) and making yourself chug it the number of times a day to get the amount you need. The general rule is ½ to 1 ounce of water daily, for every pound of body weight, with the variation in ounces being based largely on how much you are using or losing in various activities and climate conditions.

4 Watch alcohol content when outdoors in the sun and heat

I’m not going to lie. I like a big cold beer (or five) as much as anyone I know. However, I think we’ve all established that alcohol is a dehydrant. So, if you have a tendency, like me, to load up a cooler of your favorite libations when heading out for a day on the sand or water just make sure you remember to slam those 60 to 150 ounces of water you need in between the other tastier drinks.

It’s also a good idea to limit daily drinking to a few drinks a day… okay, until the weekend if you must. I’m not telling you what to do or how to live your life. However, we’ve all seen that guy who drinks a six pack a night five days a week and then a case or fifth on weekends, and how does he look? Not the best skin, right? And probably a good 15 years older. Yeah, not good for your skin… see how easy this is?

5 Get your nutrients... Inside and out

Remember that whole, “you are what you eat” adage? Well, somewhat unfortunately, it’s mostly true! A whole lot of things aren’t particularly good for you, so lets skip that list and just go to what is specifically good for your skin, when it comes to what you eat. Think vitamin C rich foods, including fresh fruits and vegetables that are rich in polyphenols and beta-carotene. Things like soybeans, nuts and seeds, oily fish, and even coffee can be helpful in keeping healthy glowing skin from the inside out.

As for giving your skin -especially your face- a dose of nutrients, you can’t go wrong by using a good vitamin C serum to help nourish your skin and keep that youthful glow all year long. Vitamin C also goes a long way in helping your skin heal after sun damage, as well as, lightening sun spots that were caused by too much sun exposure.

6 Cover Up!

While it may seem almost too rudimentary to even mention, wearing a hat, neck cover, and even a long sleeve shirt with built-in sun protection can go a long way in allowing you to stay outdoors longer, while still protecting your skin from too much sun. Look for shirts that state a particular level of sun protection, but also be aware that simply carrying along a light-weight white cotton button up or long sleeve tee is a smart move when heading out for a day at the beach or hours on the boat. The same goes for investing in the right sunglasses as a precaution against eye damage, and damage to the tinder skin around your eyes, that often can be protected by the sunglasses also. While any shades are better than none, it’s best to choose sunglasses with polarized lenses.

POINT WASHINGTON

MEDICAL CLINIC Unveils New Facility to Better Serve South Walton and Surrounding Areas

MEDICAL CLINIC Building Campaign

MEDICAL CLINIC Building Campaign

P2 0 2 3

oint Washington Medical Clinic recently celebrated the ribbon cutting and grand opening of their new state-of-the-art facility located on the beautiful campus of Point Washington United Methodist Church, on North County Highway 395.

e January grand opening is yet another milestone for the wonderful organization founded in 2017 by Dr. Hillary Glenn, and Dr. Patsy Vargo in their quest to bring accessible healthcare to all.

e newly minted and modern standalone facility includes over 4,700 sq. . of clinical space, enabling Point Washington Medical Clinic to best serve the rising number of those in the South Walton and 30A communities who are in need of a ordable healthcare, but o en nd themselves with no insurance or a ordable options to get that care. In our area this problem of sorts is partially due to the growing number of locals who work in tourism-based jobs that don’t, or can’t, provide health coverage. As a note, I feel it is important to mention that this is not simply an issue our area is facing, but largely a fact-of-life type issue that tends to impact any area where tourism is a primary industry, and many workers are not considered full-time or salaried employees.

e new clinic – built by Woodru Construction, designed by architect Zack Quinn, interior designer Suzanne Rester Watson, and landscaped by Bradford Davis Landscape Architects – will enable the physicians, nurses, support sta and other volunteers of Point Washington Medical Clinic to provide services across a larger number of hours each week; largely due to the new clinic’s addition of six exam rooms, a pediatric exam room, and updated equipment for diagnostics and treatment.

Story by Will Estell, Photos by Jeff Watson

Point Washington Medical Center’s Co-Founder and Executive Director, Dr. Hillary Glenn explained that the center’s mission has always been to build a healthier and stronger community by providing high quality primary health care regardless of any patient’s personal means or access to healthcare. is has been largely possible due to the clinic’s volunteer-driven mentality, allowing them to keep their costs down considerably, when compared to other similar healthcare facilities in our region.

When asked about the new clinical facilities and what they mean to her, Dr. Hillary Glenn relayed, “ is building is by our community and for our community. Without the many contributions by our generous supporters this new clinic would not have been possible.

All of us involved from the founders to numerous volunteers are excited to be able to expand our hours and services to better serve our neighbors in the coming year and years to come.”

I’m also told the new facility has allowed the doctors, nurses and other volunteers of Point Washington Medical Clinic to expand their primary and preventative care services to now include dentistry, as well as, mental health services for patients in need. is includes the addition of a more in-depth on-site testing lab, making it possible to better diagnose and treat patients in a more e cient manner.

Additionally educational instruction, along with dietary and nutritional counseling will be added to the services in the newly opened facility. All just a few more ways to better serve the surrounding communities in implementing a healthier future for all through better access to the healthcare that everyone deserves.

Since its 2017 inception the clinic has provided over $3.5 million in healthcare services from a single facility (along with two popup clinics at times) serving over 15,000 patients across South Walton, 30A, and the surrounding coastal and rural areas of Northwest Florida. In contrast the newly opened and more spacious clinic is expected to serve over 900 patients each month. Growing in time to serve between 12,000 to 15,000 patients each year. us, making remarkable strides in what the founding doctors say started out as “just an idea” well before the original location opened in 2017. at “idea” was the vision that a free healthcare clinic could operate in a low-cost manner by largely relying on the generosity and care of volunteers. And that vision became a reality that has now grown to make a measurable impact on the value of life for so many residents of the area it serves.

As a local myself, and someone who o en ponders the issues plaguing our coastal communities and world, what I nd perhaps the most remarkable in researching and writing a piece such as this is the realization that this little piece of paradise we are so lucky to call home is also home to the kind of people who show such care and compassion as to take that idea and build the clinic; the people –from doctors to nurses to clerical workers and fundraising sta , who donate their valuable time and expertise to serve, and the everyday people who share their resources to make this clinic possible. No doubt, the brand new clinic is a valuable and needed addition to our area. However, I like to think the real magic is in the generosity of the people that brought it from fruition to reality and those of you who will decide to support it in the coming years ahead.

Kudos to those heroes!

Wine Walk is a long running tradition at Gulf Place on 30A. This event which takes place on the third Thursday of each month, is a great opportunity to check out the shoppes and businesses in Gulf Place while doing a little shopping and socializing with friends.

With your ticket, you get a wine glass to partake in the spirits each participating business will have on hand. In addition to plenty of wine and champagne flowing, elaborate spreads of foods and treats are on hand as businesses go all out to welcome partygoers into their businesses. You also receive a sheet that each business signs to verify your attendance. This can become a valuable piece of paper at the end of the evening when everyone gathers at the Artist’s village for music and socializing as prizes are drawn!
