North Oaks Sports Medicine Selects Student-Athletes of the Spring Season

[HAMMOND, LA] — North Oaks Sports Medicine certified athletic trainers have joined with North Oaks Orthopaedic Specialty Center providers to select Kaitlyn Norman of Springfield High School and Michael “Konnor” Graham of Hammond High Magnet School as “Student-Athletes of the Spring Season” for February-April 2021.

In May 2021, the North Oaks Sports Medicine team will choose a “Student-Athlete of the Year” from all season honorees.

Dr. Billy Michal Scholarship Award Recipient

[Covington,LA] ] — Three years ago, Dr. Brasuell started a scholarship award in honor of his mentor, Dr. Billy Michal. “I simply wouldn’t be the pediatric dentist that I am today had I not met Dr. Billy Michal... His dedication to education is the reason that I wanted to honor him with the scholarship award and to all the exceptional students we see in our practice.” states Dr. Brasuell.

Each year we create a topic for our high school seniors to write on as an entry for the scholarship. The topic we chose this year was “How has 2020 shaped you? Has it changed your future plans or career goals in any way?”, and the amazing mindsets of our graduating seniors truly shined through their words. To choose a recipient, our staff reads each of the essay submissions and votes on their favorite essay. One of the main necessities when starting college is a laptop so we thought this year’s award of an Apple MacBook Air would be greatly appreciated by anyone soon-to-be college student.

The recipient of our 3rd Annual Dr. Billy Michal Scholarship Award recipient is Caleb Nicotri, a senior at St. Paul’s High School. Caleb will be attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he will be studying Neuroscience. He has also been playing soccer since age 4, and will continue playing the sport that he loves at UAB. We have watched Caleb grow up with us at Dr. Brasuell’s for the past 14 years and we are so excited about his future endeavors and wish him all the best!

Introducing Mandeville's NorthShore Robotics

[Mandeville, LA] — While Mandeville's NorthShore Robotics might not ring any bells with you yet, it is beginning to become a familiar name to those in the competitive robotics programs throughout the state. Their competition team, Team Pelican, is made up of several elementary through middle school aged students and has been making waves.

LSU-Alexandria Robotics held the Louisiana State Championship for Vex Robotics where it hosted 22 elementary through middle school Vex IQ teams from across the state. NorthShore Robotics' Team Pelican was among the those in attendance. Although it is only their second year in competition, they took home the first place Teamwork Champion Award as well as the Robot Skills Award for earning the highest points in both autonomous (controlled solely by code) and driver skills.
